I found him thanks to Yelp, and noticed he was local to my home and quickly reached out regarding my unfavorable damage to my vintage LV wallet. This 2004 coin purse wallet combo has seen better days, and when my wallet was rejected for repairs from the original source, I didn't want to give up on it. Paul asked me to send pictures of the damages so he could quote me properly due to the amount of work involved. We agreed on a price and even the amount I had to leave for deposit wasn't an issue. He wanted to make sure that I would trust his judgement and value his work. Paul said to give him a week and he delivered it to me in 5 days time! Be sure to always ask him what the store hours are, as he unfortunately is experiencing flood damages to his work space. How he was still able to fix this wallet for me in such dire conditions, I'll never know. He's chatty and friendly, and could use more foot traffic as this kind of work is clearly dying in the industry. Hours of work displayed on the shop window include Saturday till 5pm. I came over at 12:00 to find the door locked and window gate down and locked, too. Went home and called the shop at ~1:30pm. Owner answered in Russian asking me why I didn't call him - as if the shop only opens when a customer calls - and why I didn't deposit my boots in a locked box at the entrance. I'm not about to leave my boots not knowing if they are repairable! I asked if the shop open now - was told to call back at ~2:30pm. I called at 2:42pm, didn't recognize the voice who answered, asked again if the shop is open - in English - and got yelled at for speaking English! Was told not to play games (!) and not to be rude (for speaking English!). Naturally, I hang up and will not place any orders with this so called business. PS. This place is the worst, Horrific experience. I came in with 6 shoes, the owner told me " I'll do everything" for $600. (He LIED) 6 shoes ( resole for 3, and the shine them and paint one) thats pretty pricey but I figured worth it. Month later he told me he still couldn't do all of the shoes, a MONTH AND A HALF LATER I came in, half the shoes were missing and the others he gave me were filthy- dirtier then before! He took some off of the floor! Just laying around the ground like trash. he then said I needed to pay ANOTHER 120 to clean them- otherwise he wouldn't do it - also he " couldn't find my shoes" so I had to come back, which is beyond unprofessional. The one pair of shoes - Gucci loafer that I JUST wanted cleaned - because it had a funky smell, and the fur HAS BEEN CUT. They ruined my shoe. this is is a complete scam, for that price you can go leather spa in Manhattan. not a dirty disgusting hole in the wall with ZERO customer service and ruined shoes. Returned once again to resole my worn out Wolverine 1K Mile work boots. The original factory soles lasted only ~1 to 2 yrs. Alex (father) had replaced the heel and rubber outsoles on them 3 or 4 years ago. Now, Paul (son) re-did them again after heavy use. I expect these to last another 3 to 4 years of heavy use. I needed my shoes polished for some family photos. As am I now working from home, my shoes had collected dust underneath my bed, lol. I had two pairs of shoes to be polished (one black, one brown) I had the black ones on my feet and the brown in a bag. Upon my arrival, I noticed it was a friendly older gentlemen working by himself. He told me he couldn't do a "rush job" which meant he couldn't polish the shoes I had on my feet, there's at least a one day turnover, which I found odd. I left the brown shoes and just wore a different pair of shoes for my family photos. I returned a week later, to retrieve my brown shoes. He did a decent job, I thought $7 was a little steep for shoes to be polished--I paid $4 or $5 in Manhattan when I was in the office. I have one pair of go to red soled Italian high heels that I can dance and run in. The soles were worn down. Elegant did an amazing job building up the leather sole and adding rubberized red protection to them. I have Aquatalia boots which are also my go to and cost a fortune to buy, which they also did an amazing job on. Last of all, my favorite French Longchamps bag, where the leather was totally intact but faded, they re-dyed it perfectly. It look likes new. My favorite pair of wingtips had gotten to the point that they were unwearable. At first, I looked around to see if I could find a replacement pair but seeing as I got them for a steal originally and the company no longer makes them, everything I looked at was much more expensive and styled differently than I hoped. Anyway, after giving up I decided to do what it would take to get the shoes repaired seeing as the uppers were still in good condition and it is a more sustainable option. Thanks to Yelp, I found Elegant Shoe Repair which is quite close to Sunset Park (easy walk). I came by on a Saturday afternoon and Alex was in the shop. My shoes needed new front soles, heels, stitching, and polishing. He quoted me $70 for the work and knocked off $5 as I was a first time customer. He also assured me that I would very satisfied with the work and that the shoes would be ready on Tuesday. I couldn't come in until the next Saturday. When we showed up around 11, the door was closed and locked so we called the number and Alex picked up. He had just run across the street to grab something and was walking back as we called. He remembered me from the week before and marked my ticked just to note that I had picked the shoes but. The workmanship on the shoes is incredible. It is like having a brand-new pair of shoes. He also gave me the shoe things that help keep the shape (totally blanking on the name) as an extra. I am thrilled with the work Alex did and I would come back here again to have my shoes or other leather goods worked on. Alex is a true master, who I could trust my $500 Allen Edmonds shoes. The attention to detail at this shop is impeccable. I live very close to this shop and it has been a life saver. A couple of years ago I purchased two pairs of heels for work and one after another the heel tips broke leaving me with no shoes for work. I brought them to Elegant Shoe Repair and he replaced the cheap heel tips with quality Italian heel tips. He did this quickly and for an affordable price. Since then I've brought him all types of shoes and a couple pairs of boots that I thought were too far gone, and he worked wonders on all of them. He had to lower the heels on the boots to fix them and they still came out great.
