This review addresses the pricing and not the quality of work which I understand they have been awarded for. I brought in a jumpsuit for minor underarm repairs (about 1 inch on each side) and basic cleaning. I was quoted $32 for the repairs and $25 for cleaning--a total of $57 for a single garment. They also wanted to charge $20 just to remove some lint from a coat on top of the cleaning. I did not leave the coat as the quote for cleaning and lint removal was more than the coat is now worth. It's clear these people will charge as much as they can. Unfortunately, there are few cleaners in Harlem, but at this rate, I'd rather travel across state lines to New Jersey. Ridiculous! I did not leave the coat for service, as I could not justify paying these fees. But I did pay $57 for the jumpsuit because I had to have it repaired ASAP. If you're looking for fair pricing for basic repairs or cleaning, I would suggest looking elsewhere. read more

The lost my new clothes which I had given to them to sew hems on. It took over a week to find them and that was with me calling them constantly multiple times a day. They had given them to someone else. While a good company would have apologized for that and offered me a customer courtesy credit of some kind. They did neither. Sky Blue Cleaners: Great work but slow. I've been a loyal customer of Sky Blue Cleaners in NYC for about 7 years, and overall, I love the work they do. They consistently deliver very clean white dress shirts, and I particularly appreciate how they always take care of my suits. I've never had a single item of clothing destroyed, which is a huge peace of mind when trusting someone with expensive garments. My only real critique is that their turnaround times have become a bit slow. While the quality remains top-notch, I've noticed it takes longer to get my clothes back, and quick turnarounds aren't as readily available as they once were. As someone with a busy schedule, this means that when I need something done quickly, I end up paying a different dry cleaner who does not do as good work. Despite the slower service, the excellent quality and careful handling of my clothing keep me coming back if I am not in a rush. Sky Blue Cleaners is still my preferred choice for dry cleaning in NYC, especially for my dress shirts and suits. read more

I thrifted the PERFECT pair of denim shorts, but the giant bargain came with a giant rip under the back pocket. Brought the shorts to the team at Sky Blue to be stitched up and could not be happier with the results!!! I am responding to the owner who wrote back to me after my review. It is sad that you have to lie about customer interactions rather than apologize for the mistakes your business made. We have a building chat and I know people in the neighborhood. I've told everyone not to use you and am surprised that you would make up stories about the interactions I had with your staff. I now have a great cleaner who also does laundry. The owner and delivery man are professional and well mannered. Shame on you for being dishonest in your response. A professional apology with an acknowledgment of your mistakes would have changed my perspective and experience. I hate doing negative reviews but i want to warm other before they waste their money. I sent my clothes to get washed here, when i picked them up and took them home it was a complete disaster. Not only did the clothes not smell clean, my sheets and towell smelled absolutely disgusting.. they didnt even smell when they were sent to be washed. I literally gagged at how bad my sheets came back smelling like. They also didnt even fold the clothes correctly, all the socks were inside out as well. brought some cargo pants here with a huge oil stain from spilling wah fung's bbq sauce all over it the day before and was perfectly treated! i called in advance to let them know i was coming, walked over, had a really short but sweet consultation and they told me no guarantees in the timeframe i needed but they were able to remove the whole stain! the pants were good as new for $10! the staff here are very friendly, warm, and accommodative. super flexible when i asked to pickup later, made things super efficient and quick. first time taking in clothes for cleaning in this way but i'll never go back. the price was fine, service was quick, and they were welcoming. under promised and over delivered! love to support a local and small business here. they're doing great work. read more

Sky Blue NYC left me blue and took me to the cleaners. I had my four-year-old Hush Puppy shoes resoled at Sky Blue NYC in September. The sole on one of the shoes had separated in January, just three months later, so I wrote to Sky Blue and included a picture of the damage to the heel that they replaced. Sky Blue was prompt with a response, stating that the damage "falls beyond the scope of the work we performed several months ago." So much for standing behind their work. Had they not signed off completely in their response to me, by not offering a way to make things right, instead they closed with, "further limitations to our liability over time, we remain committed to ensuring customer satisfaction to the best of our ability." I would not have used a flip-flop of the old saying, "time heals all wounds" (bad people will get what they deserve sometime in the future) to "time wounds all heels" to close this review for a shoe repair job that lasted only three months. Unfortunately, this place isn't he right choice for pickup service. Several times, my laundry has come back smelling like it wasn't washed well, and this time it smells tart or mildewy. I don't know if it's some kind of eco place, but I feel like laundry should smell fresh and clean. Also, the socks are just put in loose and not folded in pairs like at places I've used in the past, and they're damp. I'm leaving this review at this point because I'm having surgery in a few days and wanted fresh laundry, but I'm going to have to send this load to be washed elsewhere, as it doesn't smell fresh, or actually washed, although some socks and underwear are damp, a white sports bra came back with pink spots on it, and my pillow cover is still stained (when I send it out elsewhere, I'll improve the review by a star if the stain is still there (but I doubt it will be). I'm super confused as to what detergent they use, and frustrated because it's now one more thing I have to do (again) before surgery. read more

A Happy Xmas Story in the Form of a Review (and Vice Versa) My 21-year-old son found my great-grandfather's overcoat, which I had beat to hell in MY 20s, on the floor of our closet. He wanted to take it back to college. The cat had been nesting in it, the pockets were hole-y, the lining was in tatters, his suitcase was stuffed to capacity and it was August, so I proposed he hold off til the holidays, secretly plotting that I would have it relined as a Xmas present. Being me, I waited til early December to look into it. My usual tailor took one look and said it was beyond her capacity, especially the complicated interior wallet pocket and the area around the armholes, which would require hand sewing. Seeing Sky Blue / Uptown's excellent reviews, I sent a Yelp message w/ photos in hopes they would consider the job, and if I could supply my own lining fabric. Received a prompt, courteous affirmative to both. Because I was out of town, my husband took it in so they could get the jump on cleaning the bedraggled thing. He was impressed with their excellent customer service and so was I, when I learned that David had asked him how to pronounce my name, and made note of it. (It's rare that people get it right on the first try.) A few days later, my plane lands back in NYC and I rush to my usual East Harlem fabric store, remembering that they stock Chinese brocade. There must have been a rush on the stuff while I was in Indiana b/c there were only 2 bolts, one of which got the aesthetic thumbs down. The other had only 1.5 yards remaining. I'd been instructed to bring 3 yards. After much dithering, I picked up a couple of yards of gold satin in addition. My reckoning: I was making it just under the wire as far as the time the job would require. Maybe there was enough yardage of the brocade to line the visible parts, and the gold could line the sleeves? Or the brocade could be the back panel and the 2 chest panels could be gold? Necessity is the mother of invention, right? (And I am the mother who doesn't fully realize that there are stores where you can buy brand new coats, because, y'know, history... and everything has to have a story, including this review.) I race my Franken-lining over to Sky Blue, where David pronounces my name right, and is utterly respectul. When he shows the tailor the proposed lining and the now clean coat, I can see from the expression behind the sewing machine that this is not going to fly. Much discussion, with David as the intermediary. The tailor is frankly unconvinced by my poorly articulated, half baked "vision". Finally, David reports that they *can* do it, but according to the tailor (whose face told no lies) there's no way there's enough brocade for the fully visible interior. Speaking for himself, he usually prefers a more monochromatic look in a lining. "We still have a couple of days," he told me. "We just want to make sure that for what you're spending, you'll be happy with the result." I will always be grateful for that. I hit pause, deciding to try my luck in the garment district the next day. (Note to self: next review is the place where a courteous gent sold me 3 yards of green, dragon-embroidered, soft brocade. All you brocade-seekers hither thy heiners to 39th St, where you will find a wide variety of customer service and selection.) Back to Sky Blue / Uptown, stat! The tailor and David break into big smiles. Their nutcase customer is smartening up a bit. It now feels like we are in cahoots. Adventures like this are only worth it if you're having fun along the way. I should also mention that repairing a coat this old is a pretty artisanal experience, and David made sure I understood the cost of each step, and that I was under no obligation to sign off on the extras, like making new pocket bags for the front of the coat or repairing the epic moth damage I had failed to notice when hatching this hare brained scheme. I know how to sew and love to cut me some corners, but for once in my life, I decided in for a penny, in for a pound, and paid to leave it in the capable hands of true experts. A number of women were now taking a sporting interest in this project thanks to my blabber-mouthed excitement. A couple of them offered to pick the coat up in my stead when a scheduling crisis threatened on my end, but as a theatermaker, I wanted to give these artists a proper curtain call (and I had a hunch they would want to hear from the actual customer that the work was satisfactory.) BRAVO! For real, friends: SUPERLATIVE! THRILLING! I imagine the moths are pissed that their work has been erased and my great-grandfather may have rolled over in his grave a bit at the choice of lining fabric, but his great-great-grandson is very excited by this gift. In the age of Amazon and fast fashion, we both appreciate the care and craftsmanship that went into making this nutty dream a reality. Sky Blue / Uptown has earned a customer for life. THANK YOU! Accidentally got paint on a favorite jacket. I checked Yelp and because of the reviews, I decided to go to Sky Blue Cleaners & Uptown Tailors. They are very knowledgeable. They advised me to give them a few days so in case 1st removal attempt doesn't work, they will attempt to do a 2nd attempt. AND THEY DID REMOVE THE PAINT STAIN! No discoloration at all! However, the tailoring I asked for on several items came back differently than I ordered, and when I asked them to fix it, they charged me again. The alterations made (taking in the sides of shirts) were more expensive than competitors as well, so I can't recommend that aspect of their business. read more

The prices for alterations of any kind are very inflated. Two weeks ago I walked in with a dress with a torn pocket. The tear was about 1 inch above, and 1 inch below the pocket adjacent to the seam. I was flabbergasted when the counter person came back from speaking with the tailor and told the price would be $36.00!!! I left stunned. I walked a few blocks away to a different dry cleaners and was charged $10.00 for the same job and that place did a fine job. Blue Sky Tailor absolutely made my dress dreams come true! I bought this dress and fell in love with it - unfortunately it had the problem many outfits do on me, while the waist and hips were the perfect size, the top was significantly too small. I started shopping around for tailors, and went to Blue Sky because it was close to my home. I'm so glad I did! Nathan was super kind and attentive, and he made me feel comfortable asking questions. I talked to Miguel, the master tailor, and he said that he would add side panels to the dress on both sides to make it work. All in all, I think 5.5" of fabric had to be added! All for an absurdly reasonable price too. I couldn't be happier with how it came out. I got so many compliments on the dress, and you can only tell it's been altered if you look for the alterations. My experience here has yet to be positive. Delivery I've used this service twice. One one occasion I was charged delivery and ordered to come pick it up. Photo of text is enclosed. I paid delivery, received a text message to pick up. They do not do morning delivery and I had to fly out so I was forced to pick it up and was NEVER REFUNDED MY DELIVERY FEE. Another occasion, I brought my laundry in because they don't pick up in the mornings. I dropped of Monday and had to follow up on Thursday to ask where my laundry was. THey told me they called and that my service was bad. I told them my service was excellent and asked why they didn't text. They told me they don't text ppl. This is a complete lie. Tex message also enclosed This place is completely disrespectful and I would not use their services again. I had a fleece blanket that they charged me $18 to wash. Then they had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to purchase their laundry bag. I promised myself this year that I would not waste my time on places that earned 1 star or write negative reviews but this cleaners has been by far the most inconsistent money grubbing disrespectful classless place Ever. I used Sky Blue to tailor my very first tux, which I ordered online and ended up being way too big for me. I was nervous, because I'm a short and curvy woman and have had real difficulty in the past with finding clothes that fit me well. Darwin and Joel could not have been more helpful and professional at the initial appointment. I honestly had no idea what I was looking for with a suit fit and they had a lot of really good suggestions, while still making sure that I felt in control of decisions and the look of the suit. This business is absolutely wonderful. They ALWAYS alter my clothes so well that - well, an example: I brought in a pair of gauze summer slacks with a very thin, wavy hemline, to be shortened. They said they couldn't preserve that wonderful hemline, which was really half the style. And they just took the measurement. I got them back, fully expecting I'd see just a regular hemline - but amazingly they were able to shorten them (perhaps from the waist), preserving that wonderful line. And they have done so many alterations the same. Also, their cleaning is absolutely impeccable. I can't say enough good for them. They are pricey, but the prices are well worth it. read more

I want to give a quick s/o to the folks at Sky Blue. These guys are professional and quick, accommodating and friendly. I dropped off a pair of slacks to be altered and a dress - for my mother - to be spot cleaned. The slacks fit like a glove and the dress looks brand new. I also dropped off a pair of new suit pants I needed for a job interview and they got the hem alteration perfect and I got a text letting me know they were ready two days ahead of schedule. A definite maybe. I went here based on the great reviews and brought 2 projects for a "test run"; a dress and a pair of pants. What to know: *I know how to sew and I speak Spanish so I was surprised by the miscommunication. *They did a great job on the dress but I had to go back a second time for the pants. Other posters said the same. * The man working on my pants made such bizarre choices I had to take them elsewhere to have the job redone. * I brought samples of similar pants for them to see what needed to be done and they still got it wrong. I would go to them again for easy projects but not anything important. The woman tailor seems to know what she's doing, but the young guy not so much. For the past year my experience has not been the same. 1- David the new guy is rude, unprofessional with a bad attitude. 2- Many times he overcharge for dry clean or repairs, a top becomes a dress which is an extra $10 etc.... he adds $5 on basic altering, afterward it adds up. Depending who is behind the counter you are being charge more than the regular price.... My biggest issue is the way he talk down to customers. I had to bring a pant that was not fix properly and it cost me $70 to fix, when I brought it back he was nasty about it, acting like he was doing me a favor to fix it again and letting me know he will not charge me this time???!!! This is the 3rd time he has done this. I spent over $450 in tailoring in the past 2 months, please treat customer with decency. Darwin is great and always kind. I cannot recommend Uptown Tailors enough! I brought my wedding dress in for alterations (after being quoted a ridiculously high cost downtown), and they did an absolutely incredible job. The dress fits perfectly! And they were able to add a specific bustle I wanted. David and the rest of the team were such a joy to work with - they did an great job on the alterations, and we're transparent and more than reasonable with the costs. I never had any concerns working with them - I knew exactly what to expect the charges to be, and knew when I came back the work would be done beautifully. My review is long overdue but sky blue dry cleaning deserves it. About a year ago I was a bridesmaid in my best friends wedding and I bought my dress the previous year. Unfortunately as time went by I kept gaining weight. I ended up having to buy a second dress as the first stopped fitting me. One month before the wedding I tried on the dress and yet again could not fit it. Going into a frenzy of thinking I had to cancel on my duties(no more dresses were available to buy in the size I needed) my friend recommended trying to get it tailored and we found sky blue cleaners. I took my dress to them and with a week or two I had it back. They cut pieces from the back of one dress and sewed it to the next dress as well as adding back the beading, hemming the dress, and replacing the zipper for me because I was scared the original invisible one would pop.(which it did for one of the bridesmaids on the day of the wedding).
