Adorable Valentine's Day dessert gifts already packaged and reasonably priced and beautifully decorated pink strawberry cakes ready for purchase. The variety of desserts has something for everyone. Cookies, cupcakes, cakes by the slice, warm honey buns and warm cinnamon rolls. Serve yourself coffee in a few varieties. Seating is ample and inviting with an outdoor patio. Very nice atmosphere with polite staff. Wonderful place to take your family, meet with friends or enjoy a quiet cup of coffee on your own. read more

Absolutely in love with this place....love the cute cafe decor, plethora of delectable goodies, & seemingly delicious lunch options that I've yet to try. Stopped here because I was having a severe sweet attack. Yes severe....& NO I'm not being dramatic. It took me forever to decide but I finally went with a chocolate chip cookies & cheesecake bars. One chocolate & one red velvet. Honestly, I was so close to not getting the red velvet & that would've been a huge mistake. That was the BEST one. The red velvet cheesecake bar is gives you the texture of a ooey gooey brownie on the bottom & the creamy cheesecake on top. It was perfect. The chocolate version is more cake like...meh. I don't love in Alabama but found Edgar's in a yelp search for a breakfast stop. I thought it was pretty good. I got a breakfast sandwich on a croissant with some grits. I could have skipped the grits but the sandwich was good, as was the coffee. Grabbed a slice of cake for the road, the strawberry cake, was good but pretty sweet for my taste. We stopped in here mid morning while staying at a nearby hotel. I was looking for coffee and the people I was with were looking for lunch so it was the perfect middle. Everyone in the group was able to get a lunch type meal and I got a parfait and coffee.. my only complaint is I wish it had more granola. I also got a cupcake from their amazing bakery. The lemon cupcake has me wanting to go all the way back to Alabama for another! It was also cute to be able to see the bakers at work decorating beautiful cakes. It was my husband and I's first time checking out this little local place and we loved it! employees were very nice and helpful when we asked questions regarding products in the store. We went closer to closing time so there wasn't as much as there normally would be but we didn't care since it was our first time, we just wanted to try something/anything we got 4 chocolate rouglah (not sure how to spell it) a slice of chocolate cake, three cupcakes, and a drink all for less than $20! I definitely think this place is very reasonably priced and for what it's worth, delicious too! something else I loved was that the son of the owners was there at the time and he was very friendly and conversed with us, loved that personal touch! We used Edgar's for our wedding in July. Cindy helped ensure our vision came to life. We decided to do a cupcake tiered cake over traditional wedding cake, with many of the cupcakes decorated like succulents. They were a hit! She got home with the cake and because it has been frozen, it completely fell apart in car. She called customer service to discuss the issue and they could care less about making the situation right. Edgar's makes wonderful cakes at great prices! Their strawberry cake is amazing and a favorite of many people I know. Their cakes can be picked up out of the case or personalized if you call in advance. Even though the cookies look tempting, they aren't always very flavorful. I would stick to Savage's for cookies. Edgar's is also a great lunch spot with quick service and a variety of cafe foods. They also have prewrapped baked goods - like cheese straws, pound cakes, and thumb print cookies. I've lived in Birmingham for 19 years and I always enjoyed coming to Edgar's and receiving items throughout the holidays and random occasions. I moved away 5 years ago and when I came back to visit Edgar's, Edgar's was on my mind. But I had a nasty encounter with an associate, I wanted to purchase a cake on the 22nd of Nov. I came in picked out the cake an Madison was the associate at the time being, I walked up stood there and waited to be acknowledged she was speaking to another associate (understandable) but I kept stand there in front of the table waiting for her to come around to say something to my daughter and I. Finally she said oh where you looking at this cake, do you want it? With this sassy face. I said yes and I get that and these gold candles and she said okay I said I would be right back because I wanted to purchase and some baked goods I went to grab them .I was looking around and came back to her with my items.I then asked her can she write in the cake she said she couldn't. Okay I understand, it's okay. Then I reached for my money and the smallest bill I had was a $100 and she said give me a second she turned to her right, and started to help another lady when she was behind me and just walked up and stood beside me. Okay. No problem, I told Madison it's okay I don't want the cake anymore with the other bakery goodies. I left with my toddler. I am very upset to me be treated the way Madison did Her attitude was nasty and her customers Service an is ill mannered. Sad this use to be a nice place I will have to go to Another bakery in town. There was a higher demand for cheese balls than they could supply for the holidays. I blame myself for waiting till New Year's Eve to grab the star of my menu. I want to acknowledge the employee that explained to me that all locations had sold out of them. It prevented me from traveling to other locations to be disappointed. Otherwise they seemed to be fully stocked on everything else. It's all about how a business responds to situations like this that makes all the difference. The first young employee's answer to me when I asked her if they had a cheese ball in the back was, "If we had any they would be in that case". (She watched me closely as I throughly searching case before looking for an employee for assistance. I have been there right before and the case hadn't been restocked after a pre-holiday rush but left happy when one was retrieved from the back). Luckily, her flippant remarks were witnessed by an older nice staff member with great customer service skills that totally altered my disappointment with the situation. I didn't get my girl's favorite item but that other employee made all the difference in how I felt. She went out her way to explain there had been a higher than expected demand for their best non-bakery item this holiday. It's so important businesses have employees like her to retain loyal customers. Customer Service Skills are paramount and I wish I had that lady's name, she is the reason I am rating a four even though I failed to get the item I wanted the most. This place has all of the potential in the world, but they've fallen flat. I ordered Bread Pudding Pancakes and a cappucino, my wife the All American breakfast. That's why our problems began. In spite of telling the counter staff that she wanted toast, a biscuit made it on the ticket and her plate. And it was cold, like it had been sitting in a bin since 5am. It took the kitchen ten minutes to make replacement toast. My cappuccino arrived as seems to be usual these days, coffee over extracted and burnt with too much milk. No amount of sugar or microfoam will save this thing. The pancakes and grits were tasty, so that's worth a star, I suppose. read more

They don't charge for just smelling here, but they could. Great baked goods shop, with beautiful product displayed in cases directly in front of a very busy kitchen. We were there for breakfast and tried the Challah French Toast and Vegetable Omelet. the French Toast was a treat, omelet was unfortunately average. Walking inside this shop on a low carb diet would be as difficult as escaping a zombie horde, because you are surrounded by awesome looking baked goods stacked and displayed all around you. The Marilyn Monroe sandwich was pretty easy and it comes with there kettle chips that seems to have salted Parmesan on them mmmm mmm is all I can say. If you're ever in the area I would say give this place a try. It seems to be a stop for salad, soup, sandwiches and a sweet tooth. You will not be disappointed. I was not aware that Edgar's served breakfast, but upon glancing at the menu, it seemed like something that would be tasty to try. Truthfully, my love for Edgar's has always been centered on their amazing desserts (especially their strawberry cake), but I decided to try some pancakes and bacon. I ordered the bread pudding pancakes. Sounds kinda amazing, but the taste is just ok. It's not bad, but a little bit of a let down. The service was good; the gentleman who brought our food to the table was nice. They were very nice to my son and gave him courtesy cookies. One of my favorite bakeries in Birmingham. I love to come here for lunch and get the chicken salad on a buttered croissant. It's heavenly!! It's not your ordinary chicken salad. Between me and my wife we keep getting reminded of a deviled eggs notes which is probably why I love it so much! But hey this is a bakery where are the sweets, and let me tell you they have them all. They also have great stuff like lemon bars, red velvet bars, etc. If you need something seeet, Edgar's is an awesome place to go. They also have a full breakfast and lunch menu. I can honestly say that everything that I've tried has been awesome. Highly recommend the breakfast sanswiches and wraps. The only drawback to Edgar's is that their prices are high. It's more expensive than Publix bakery or Chick Fil A breakfast, but an occasional indulgence that's sometimes worth it. read more

Because it's located so conveniently close to my apartment and my spot for dry cleaning, I always make a trip here whenever I possibly can. The decor is lovely like a bakery version of Cracker Barrel. The fragrance of pastries is always delightful to walk into. It's open, spacious, and loud but in a calm way that only bakeries can do with the sound of stirring ingredients and the grinding of the coffee machines. They had plenty of samples above their pastries for you try so I obviously had to go back for more. The pastry and condiment selections are endless and I enjoy wandering through this bakery as much as I can. The major setback I have found on my visits is actually finding something I like enough to bring home. Some of my favorite items though include the wedding cookie that resembles a sugar doughnut hole but a thicker texture. The lemon cheesecake was good as well. read more

Love stopping in whenever I'm in town. Clientele is such a stereotype of the South: children in monogrammed shirts in the requisite Crimson/white or orange/blue and the girls with giant oversized bows on their heads. I try not to let the mothers ignoring their children in favor of their phones detract my attention from the gorgeous baked goods and sumptuous bakery display case. Places like this are very dangerous for me. I love for bakeries and this place offers so many options that I could go into a sugar coma. We stopped in for a late breakfast and this place was hopping. My husband a monte cristo that is served on challah bread. He liked it- scrambled eggs, ham and Swiss cheese. He really loved the strawberry preserves that accompanied it and wondered if it was homemade. I decided to go the lunch route since there was so much to choose from and I wasn't in the egg mood. I ordered their grown up grilled cheese with a side of tomato soup. My husband adores pimento cheese and so I thought that he would steal my sandwich. He didn't like the spicy heat that their pimento cheese has. The sandwich also had melted cheddar and bacon. The soup was great except I was a bit confused since it had shredded carrots, diced potatoes and onions in it. Surprise- vegetable soup! Well, I ate it anyway it was filled with fresh vegetables and had great flavor. I want to go back and try their chicken salads and other items on their menu. Their pastry case has quite a bit to offer. From cookies, to bars, to cupcakes, cakes, and cheesecakes. We ordered a lemon bar and a slice of their famous strawberry cake to go. The cake is delicious- amazing homemade frosting with bits of strawberry and the cake is great too. It's just a little too pink for me and so it makes me wonder if it's from a mix. The bakery prices are a bit high, but they had a store full of baked goods and there was a constant line for cake pick ups and cookie trays. The food is great as always but there was little effort to enforce any of the Covid laws. People are all over each other. There is no spacing of guests. I like my bakeries a little less chain-y and a little more independent. I saw that Edgar's had King Cake for the Mardi Gras celebration and after looking through my options, decided on picking it up from here. I don't particularly like this location, it's a hassle to get to and it's really out of the way. Although I did not sit in and simple came by to pick up something that was already prepackaged. The reason why my rating is so low also has nothing to do with the product itself. The King Cake was great, and my boyfriend also agrees. However, the service was what was a total turn off. Service came across very dismissive and unfriendly. It doesn't incite what a bakery should be all about, sweet and warm. You would think they're be a little more helpful and welcoming considering when I was in there wasn't much business. Overall, great pastries, but less than terrible customer service. read more

First time here ordered the French toast and I don't know how either the plate wasn't properly cleaned but it tastes just like chemicals. The Nutella berry waffles was the second dish and it's not bad if it wasn't over cooked form the bottom and half burned. Cappuccino is decent however the frappe is just watered down. Visiting Edgar's Bakery at the Colonnade is always a treat, and it's a great place to meet up with friends and family. The ambience is cozy, yet there's plenty of room for seating, and the staff is welcoming and very friendly. I've fully enjoyed every visit and love both their breakfast and lunch items. My parents are obsessed with this place and after having the Greek Salad I now agree. I've eaten breakfast and lunch there a couple times before and haven't loved my meal until now. You order at the register, grab a number and wait for your food to be delivered. We sat outside surrounded by gorgeous rosemary bushes. I selected the Greek salad after I saw it was a new addition to the menu. Mom got the grown up grilled cheese and little sister selected a different wrap. I asked for light feta and some places when you get all diva they go obnoxious on your request like give you one tiny chunk of feta. Not Edgar's. They gave me an appropriately light portion of feta which I appreciated. I also asked for no olives because duh. The chicken was so flavorful and the lettuce crunchy. My lunch mates equally enjoyed their dishes. I wouldn't mind this being a regular staple on bham visits which if I'm eating with my parents it probably will be. It was done perfectly. The bacon was excellent and I was pleased as to how fresh everything was. My husband had bread pudding pancakes, eggs, and cheese grits. I am so extremely disappointed in my experience with Edgar's Bakery in this location. I had used the Tuscaloosa location before and it was fabulous. I ordered my daughters college graduation cake (we live in Georgia) and when we picked it up, we drove 1 mile with the cake on my lap to our hotel. When I opened the box, I was appalled at what I found. I immediately called and emailed as directed. I was told they could remake the cake but it would have done no good because it wouldn't be ready in time for us. I was told the cake 'probably shifted while in transit'. Look closely at the pictures, it shifted for two reasons. The layers were uneven and I don't believe the cake was left refrigerated. I witnessed the girl grab my cake box from a shelf in the open kitchen area. After two phone calls and three emails I was told upper management would get back to me. This was May 2018. Glad I'm not holding my breath. So disappointed. 4 years at The University of Alabama and this is the cake we got. Look at the cardboard where the cake is.
