I usually visit the location in Riverchase, but since I was in this area, I decided to stop in. A friend of mine was in from Key West so I thought I would bring him some treats, including Key West pie and the assorted cupcakes since he had never had them before. I too had never had the Key West pie anywhere so I was interested in trying it myself. I am so glad I did. I was very pleasantly surprised that it was delicious. I just got too small pie so we could each have one to ourselves the only thing I think I would've liked was possibly a lime on it, but the graham cracker crust was delicious. When I order from here, I do online ordering so I can just go inside and pick it up, which is what I did this time around. The restaurant was clean. There was a few people behind the counter. I went to the area where you can pick up your order orders and you just pick it up and walk out the door super easy. I highly suggest doing it. read more

The portion was enough for two which was nice but the chicken salad and pimento cheese were a bit plain and needed some seasoning. My husband got the burger and enjoyed it. I wish there was a ZERO star option. Cold food, cold shoulder service, overpriced... there were crumbs on every table I tried to sit at. My salad came out and the lettuce was basically a wet napkin. I always get the pick three trio. You can't go wrong getting a plate to sample all of your favorite salads. The staff is always attentive, and I love their new rebrand. My is being able to stop in and grab something out of the freezer for dinner. It's a really fun environment and you can sit outside if it's a pretty day. read more

It was okay. And I mean just okay. I know that people around here rave about it but I honestly didn't realize a reason as to why. My husband and I stopped in for lunch. He ordered a sandwich which is pretty hard to mess up since it was a pimento cheese BLT. He had the broccoli salad as a side and we liked it. We also ordered a wedge salad which was good. I ordered their poppy seed chicken platter with a side salad. I was expecting to be wowed by this poppyseed chicken casserole and I was underwhelmed. The only flavor to be found was in the Ritz cracker topping that was crumbled on the top. No flavor in the chicken, much less the sauce in it.The white rice underneath tasted like the boil in bag type with no flavor to be found. Given the COVID restrictions, I didn't even have salt or pepper to doctor it up. We had purchased a poppyseed casserole to go and when we heated it up I was able to add seasoning to it but there was no rice in the dish. We read the label and it didn't say to serve on top of rice. So we had thick chicken soup. As much as we love to go out to eat, I do not see us going here again. The salads were really good, but not good enough to draw me back in. read more

I love the food, but customer service leaves me scratching my head at the location off 280/Valleydale. Today, I get a sandwich, 4 tables full in restaurant, no line. My food arrives and girl starts to clean my section. I ask her not to...she said don't worry, she will not spray any cleaner on me or my food. Not the point, I don't like to smell cleaning supplies while I eat. This was my first time back (another chance) After Back in September. I swing by for a late lunch, 2:43pm. Closes at 3pm. I ask the employee can I still eat in, and she said they close at 3. I asked if I order, could I finish eating while they start closing process...firm No. So I left. If you don't tip the cashier, they treat you like something they just stepped in. Very sad! The food is delicious, but the lady was friendly until after I paid, left no tip (she is not a server?) then waiting for my order (2 minutes later) she asked what I wanted. I am so excited for my neighborhood Cahaba Heights location to be reopened...supposedly happening this Spring 2015! It's been months since I had an Ashley Mac fix, so I made the trip down 280 that may hold me over until CH is back up and running. I haven't branched out because I love ordering the salad trio. I always get the spicy pimiento cheese, chicken salad, and baby bleu salad. It hits the spot and sometimes I'm able to bring leftovers home! Not often, but sometimes.... My friend ordered a sandwich. Unfortunately I can't remember which one, but with this being her first trip to Ashley Mac's, she left saying, "I can't wait to bring my husband here!" It's definitely a ladies lunching restaurant, BUT the food is too good for that excuse to keep men from coming in. On our visit, I saw a dad with his young daughter and a couple groups of business lunches that included men. I'm glad they're not discouraged from coming in. My friend took a mini sampler of cupcakes to work and said that she enjoyed the vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry flavors. I brought home a couple of the strawberry cupcakes for my husband and I to have. So many people only know of AM's because of the cupcakes....but I think I'm going to stick with my salad trio. I'm still more impressed with the strawberry cake from another Birmingham bakery.... On a side note, someone did bring me the chicken poppyseed take home meal after I had my son. I love it here! Having lived in the area for a while, it's so refreshing to have another lunch choice. THey have such a great variety and your food is made to order! The ingredients have always been really fresh and great quality. This is a great spot to meet up with friends. I love the outdoor seating and wish spring would get here! They also have a fantastic selection of frozen casseroles that I can take home and keep on hand. Everything is made by hand at the Cahaba Heights location and is fantastic. My favorite is the Spanish and Chicken lasagna. They've also added a vegetarian and gluten free option with the Eggplant parm. While it's not a gluten free kitchen, many of the items are gluten free! I have to say every Ashley Mac's location I've been to receives 5 stars from me but if I could give this location 6 I would! Whoever was the cashier on Saturday August 4 2018 was the most efficient cashier I have ever met. I don't even know how to explain it. I told her I was stopping by to grab something quick so I could head to my hair appointment and all I knew was I wanted a soda. I picked up a sweet treat in front of the register and she said "Oh that's our almond flavored pound cake, it's delicious, just like pound cake but with almond extract!" She had me sold. I die over almond anything. She asked if I wanted to add a scoop of chicken salad which sounded like just what I needed at the awkward 10:30am where my body is deciding between breakfast and lunch. Sure let's do it. I assumed she would tell me to grab one from the grab-and-go fridge but she had them scoop me something fresh and it even came with crackers! Literally in and out in 5 minutes! They made sure I had grabbed a straw and asked if I needed cutlery. They called me by name after asking for it at the beginning of my order too. I felt like I was eating at a five star restaurant when all I meant to do was slip in and out unseen and unheard since typically to go orders go that way. It was so personal, catered, kind, just customer service at its finest. The Diet Coke was fantastic too- I can't begin to explain my love for on-point fountain drinks. Nothing bad to say.... As I'm a regular :) It's one of those place where you walk in, pick up your food, get in your car, sit in front of a tv and eat. I rarely eat there. Prices are reasonable. Not all the dishes are what I call value meals. Salads are good(dressings I should say, as how can you mess up) and that's pretty much what I get. Otherwise, it's simple food. Sandwiches I had are literally bread and your choice of meat. Sides are Okay to good pending what you decide. Fruit cup sides are real hit or miss. I had my shares of bad fruits. Also several times my orders were missing things. Some might see this and how can you give 4 stars. Well, again, I'm a regular. Unexplainable spell makes me over see flaws and I continue to go there. Walked in the front door and my first thought was "Beautiful, clean, bright and open." Customer service was awesome and the sweet tea is amazing! Lol. Self-seating, you get your little number and not even 10 minutes go by and you get your delicious meal.
