I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, my experience was less than stellar. It was tiny, crowded (kids and carts bumping into me EVERYWHERE), and albeit cheap, but to be honest I've seen cheaper at Stanley's, where I usually prefer to shop. Still, I wanted to give Edgewater Produce a chance since it's much closer to me and I like variety in where I shop for groceries. (I refuse to shop at Jewel or Dominick's, and am a bargain hunter so I hate paying more, on principle, for something I KNOW I can get cheaper elsewhere, even if it's only 50 cents). I'll admit that it is more complete than Stanley's, with a full meat counter and more of a dairy selection. But for produce, probably not. I did appreciate the range of other items, like medjool dates, various crackers and flatbreads, and gigantic pink marshmallows I used for s'mores :) Overall, I'll give Edgewater Produce another chance. Compared to big grocery stores, it's a great place to find fresh and cheap produce! I guess my standards in that category are a little high. read more

I love this place! I will continue to return here weekly for fresh and organic meat and produce. I was able to get a lot more for my money. The avocados are HUGE! The limes are amazing. This is our favorite grocery. Produce is better than any chain, including Whole Foods. Prices are better. Boar's Head at the butcher! Good bread selection. Fresh guacamole and salsa And check out the day old produce rack! Better than the Jewel's regular produce across the street and the prices are amazing. Almost anything you could want in a tiny space. Awesome- totally fresh and cheap. Don't be afraid to buy meat here- it's also fresh and cheap! The only caveat is that they grind meat (beef, turkey) very fine, so if your used to chunky ground beef, go to Jewel. Otherwise, it's very good. You can even have them trim your selections! Grab some olives from the deli counter, too. Fantastic spot for fresh (cheap!) produce, tortillas, and hand-trimmed meats. Bonus: sometimes the elote guy parks his cart outside, so you can grab some spicy corn on your way out :) read more

Edgewater Produce. I LOVE YOU!!!!! Why four stars? Well, this place could be bigger and have better selection of staples and non-food items, but I am here mainly for the meat and produce. Oh such consistently good produce. I can always count on Edgewater for fresh and yummy fruits and veggies, and the meat is fresh and inexpensive. They also carry Boar's Head stuff in the deli section. So if you are in the neighborhood and you are a big fan of good produce, do yourself a favor and stop by, you will not be disappointed. read more

Edgewater Produce is good because its prices are inargueably better than Jewel prices. To be so heavily stocked with 'hispanic' cuisine - oriented groceries and produce, however, I was amazed that they do not sell fresh sofrito. (That's akin to selling ketchup, pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes but not mustard, if you're not familiar with sofrito.) So if I have to go down to Armitage to buy fresh sofrito, I may as well buy all my groceries there, where prices are much better. Yes, they are. And the stores are twice the size of Edgewater Produce so I can find everything I need in just one. And they have parking lots for their customers. read more

I was underwhelmed. I used to shop religiously at Harvest Times when I lived in Ravenswood Manor. Since moving to Andersonville, I was looking forward to shopping at Edgewater produce. The produce looked as good as the Jewel stuff, which is no compliment. After shopping at Jewel, I came to Edgewater produce to pick up a few things that I expected would be cheaper. Not so! Grapes and lemons were both more expensive than Jewel. I think I'll continue to make the drive back to Harvest. It's worth the extra gas. read more

This is the best produce store I have ever been to! It's very cheap and the quality is great. I try to go here for as much as I can, and then finish at the Jewel across the street. I usually spend about $25 on all my produce or 2 weeks. This place is clean and organized. It's also never very crowded and easy to get around. Compared with the Dominicks I live very close to, produce and fruit at Edgewater Produce are practically HALF THE PRICE and often better quality! It's well worth the walk to me! Love it! Edgewater Produce is by far the best place to buy fruits and vegetables in the Andersonville/Edgewater neighborhood. It puts the Jewel food store across the street to shame. The produce here is fresh and colorful. The selection is great and it's always well-stocked. As other Yelpers have noted, the prices here are fantastic. Yesterday, I spent $20 here and walked out with four full bags of produce. Try doing that at a major grocer. I'm not a huge fan of their meat, though. I've bought meat here a few times and was never impressed. You can't beat this place for value. It's not big or fancy, it's not the place to buy everything you need. But, if you live nearby, do buy your produce here. You won't be sorry. read more

Veggies and fruits...your mother told you to eat more and this is the place I go when I need them. The Jewel Osco across the street drove me here, but I'm glad it did. I love Edgewater, because I know I will be stocking my fridge with healthy produce, meats, and cheeses, while spending a fraction of what I would have spent at the chain grocery stores. As for complaints about the size, I figure if they don't have it, I don't need it. I am occasionally disappointed when they run out of their freshly made salsa - it's amazing. Hallelujah! No, I'm not kidding. Halle-fucking-lujah! When I moved to Andersonville this month I knew that I would be leaving behind my beloved Cermak Produce in Humboldt Park. What I didn't know is that I would find Edgewater Produce just a hop-skip from my new pad. I eat a lot of produce. I work from home and love to cook, so my grocery bills can get extreme. I need places like Edgewater Produce to give me both excellent fruit and veg, but also keep my bills to a minimum. The lines are long, but it's OK. Just relax. Take a deep breath and know those gorgeous, plump red peppers and fragrant onions are going to make a slamming accompaniment to your dinner. They also have a pretty great deli meat counter. Boarshead has awful radio commercial, but tasty meats. read more

It gives the big "Oh" every single time!! As in Ohhh yeah... what were YOU people thinking?!?! They are filled with all kinds of items for a pleasurable night. I like to start with peeling off layer by layer, getting more and more excited to get to the bareness of an onion. Nothing gets the heart pumping like some long stocks that go all the way up to butt of the celery. I don't mind shaving off the hair, you just have to be gentle with a peach (I don't mind a little fuzz on my peach, some people don't like it at all). Nothing gets me more excited then nice full firm melons. I love to gently squeeze them, you could say caress them, just waiting till I get a taste. Pulling back the skin I find that I like my bananas nice and firm. I can't help but relate to a cucumber and they carry some of the biggest around, I always say eat it raw. Some say I have talented hands, of course you have to, if going to eat a pomegranate. I always say give me some heat on my dish or I won't be happy, I am constantly spicing it up. To me the core is the best part of a plum, you almost feel it's flavor coursing through you. Like you have somehow connected to it, like you know where it's been and the journey it's been through. Almost to the end, off course if you can make it, lay it all down on a nice soft bed of your choice, and finish it all off. I usually go with spinach. For dessert... They don't call it passion fruit for nothing, is all I'm saying! A little oil, a little heat, and you could make a whole night of it. Hell, why not a morning too (after you brush your teeth, of course)!! Tip: Don't be afraid to get rough, sometimes it's more fun to ravage What?!?! Can't a guy get excited about a produce market, why do you people always have to be so dirty!?!? You get a lot for very little money here, it rocks!! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! They always have the best produce at the cheapest prices. It is a small store with only three check out lanes, but the lines are usually not that long and go pretty quick. Aside from the produce they carry many Hispanic specialty items and brands that are also cheaply priced. This is a diamond in the rough. read more

OMG! A true gem! I have been in search of a better produce selection at a better price. I enjoy Dominics and Jewel, however, they are so expensive. This place has HIGH quality produce, and fresh deli and tasty breads all at an affordable price. You cant shop there for non perishable staple food items like cereal, soda and name brand "junk food". THere is a theory that if you want to purchase healthy food in a supermarket you simply shop around the perimeter of the store and stay away from aisles. THis place IS the perimiter! read more

God I miss this place! Edgewater Produce was one of the best things about living in Andersonville. While I don't miss the line outside of Ann Sather's or the increasing number of Jetta-sized strollers crowding the sidewalk, I do miss getting inexpensive, fresh produce. I always found that the best approach was to go in without a list and plan your meals around what's in season and what's on sale. Another often overlooked section is the deli counter. I am so happy to have this shop in my neighborhood. I come here twice a week to stock up on produce and other items. Sometimes they let the produce sit a little too long, but overall it's good quality and a much better selection than at the big box store across the street. I love their precut melon, mango, and jicama. It's reasonably priced and very convenient for snacking or making smoothies. They also have a great supply of watercress, fresh mint, fresh dill, etc., and good prices on bread, tortillas, olives, fresh salsas, meat, and Metropolis whole bean coffee. The dairy section isn't great, but they do sell a delicious milk chocolate bar from Greece (Ion) for $2.29. If you come and they're sold out of Ion bars, it's because I bought them all - sorry. read more

My go to store for produce. They carry the best freshest vegetables you can find. You can find a respectable amount of other grocery needs as well. Puts Jewel and Marianos and even Whole Foods to shame. Too bad they don't carry more organic! read more

Price/ value/ selection WOW! Used to be a loyal Jewel customer , what a sap I was, until my wife Made me go into Edgewater produce. Now I rarely...rarely....go to the jewel anymore. I used to get 1 bag of "stuff" from Jewel for about $20 now at EP it's 2 and often 3 bags for $20. The fruit is usually ready and ripe, but won't go bad in 2-3 days. Veggies are fresh. They have good selection of other grocery stuff for how small it is. As for me and my house -WE choose EP again and again. read more

Love this place! The produce is fresh and cheap, and if you are a fan of Boar's Head meat and cheese, they always have an amazing sale on one of their products. This place is only really good for your fresh products, so sadly it's not a one stop shop for all your groceries. The is my new grocery store. I live 2 blocks from a Jewel in Lakeview but I make the trek up here for the prices and quality. I got 4 chicken breasts for $2! The produce is priced so well and so fresh. I also started buying cottage cheese and milk from them. Everyone in there is friendly and helpful. I'm not the best at knowing what odd things are and when I ask, there is always a friendly worker available to ask. read more

Kiss your friend Jewel adios and head over to Edgewater Produce. Not only do they have more of a variety of and much fresher produce, but it is cheaper than your Aunt Franny around the holidays. The products are heavily slanted to the Latino population, but that doesn't stop 'em from giving a nod to other cultures with products such as tahini for HALF the price you would pay at other stores. Same goes for their nuts and dried fruits. Granted, they do not carry organic produce, but seriously, how much faith can you put in that little "organic" sticker on your apple from Dominick's? I can put a sticker on an apple. If I did, it would say something like "Red Delicious Brains." In short, go to Edgewater Produce, save some cash, and screw the grocery man. read more

Excellent selection and quality of produce. Just as you might expect given their name. Given that produce is in their name, this is their specialty. You won't find much else beyond the basics. There's some specialty food which seems to be mostly Polish and Mexican fare. However the produce I purchased was excellent and will be returning here from now on for all produce needs. read more

Edgewater produce is a great place to get fresh vegetables and fruit. I think their biggest asset is that they are able to get the produce out and sold so a quick turnover is key to their freshness. You can also find a large selection of fresh herbs. They do have a meat counter that at first I was a little hesitant to purchase from; however they have been having better items than the Jewel across the street. On the last two occasions, I was looking for ribs which Edgewater had and at a very inexpensive price. The other, I was looking for ground pork, Jewel wouldn't (or couldn't) grind a pork loin/roast for us so we went across to Edgewater. I asked them for 5lbs of ground pork, he looked at me and said they did not have any ground but if I had a few minutes they would grind it for us. Good reliable produce and reasonable prices. read more
