I would like to base my rating on the quality of my dental cleaning; however, I am unable to do so because my appointment was canceled and rescheduled to another day without any communication or notification. As someone who works a standard 9-to-5, I specifically took time off from work to attend this appointment. Poor Communication and Scheduling Issues I scheduled a dental appointment for 1:00 PM two weeks in advance. The day before my appointment, the office called and informed me that my appointment time had been changed to 12:00 PM. To ensure I arrived on time, I checked in at approximately 11:40 AM. By 12:15 PM, I had still not been seen, so I informed the staff that I was on a tight schedule and asked about the delay. I was told that the dentist would see me at 12:30 PM. When 12:30 PM arrived and I still had not been called back, I approached the front desk again and expressed my concern that I had already been waiting for over 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time. I was then told it would be "another five minutes." By 12:45 PM, I still had not received any update. At 12:50 PM, after waiting nearly an hour beyond my revised appointment time, I informed the staff that I could not wait any longer and would have to leave. The lack of communication and disregard for my time was extremely disappointing. If the office was running significantly behind schedule, I would have appreciated a timely and honest update so I could make an informed decision. Fast forward, two years later, it fell out again. When I say painful. I wanted to go back so bad to have them redo it, but looking at all of the reviews, we all had a bad experience. Total racket. Told me they could see bacteria on an X-ray, so my elderly mother required a deep cleaning in quadrants at huge expense. Did not ONCE glance in her mouth. How stupid do I look? After they grasped that we weren't buying it they went to "see if" someone could clean her teeth. Then we got the "financial consultant" dropping by. Left after two hours with nothing but a failed upsell and some X-rays they promised were "no charge." Today I see they billed insurance $1600 for the visit. I went in for a cleaning, filling, and whitening treatment. I scheduled my cleaning, filling, and treatment back-to-back from 11AM - 1 PM. I got seated in the chair and a hygienist did not come back to clean my teeth till 11:40 AM. After she finished cleaning, I waited another 40 minutes for the dentist to come in. Dentist did not come; another employee came and put numbing on my mouth and said the Dentist would be back shortly. I waited an additional 15 minutes, the numbing wore off and the dentist still did not show. Now I have waited almost 2 hours, and I have only had my teeth cleaned, not to mention this was on a Saturday. Do not trust this practice, they are a scam. I made an appointment with an in-network doctor at the office, but when I received the EOB from my insurance I discovered that the practice had rescheduled me with an out-of-network provider in the same office, without informing me. This resulted in thousands of dollars of additional out of pocket expenses. I have attempted to contact the office to resolve the dispute, but they have been entirely unresponsive. DO NOT GO! I had a filling done at Edgewood Smiles and it was awful. The numbing was none so poorly it was painful and I couldn't feel my face for the rest of the afternoon, this is not normal! The filling did not stay. I ended up going to my old dentist to get the filling redone and had to pay out of pocket. After calling Edgewood Smiles to inform them they blamed me. Implying I should have come back to their office to have them patch their poorly done work with another bad filling. Whole Story: I went here initially because I just moved to the area and needed a cleaning and had a cavity I knew I needed filled. At my first visit they were friendly but just did a consultation, making me reschedule for a cleaning. At the first visit I had been given an incentive to write a good review and get $40 off hindsight that was where I should have seen the red flags. After my 2nd visit I did a cleaning and they kept trying to upsell me like I was getting my oil changed or something. Finally after that I was at visit 3, when I came in to get my cavity filled. Like I mentioned earlier the numbing and quality of the filling was terrible. The day after I noticed It still felt like I had a cavity. I waited months hoping it would get better but finally had enough and went to my old reputable dentist office. They immediately saw that the cavity was not filled properly and redid all of Edgewood's work. But because Edgewood had already billed by insurance for the filling earlier in the year my insurance wouldn't cover my redo (plan frequency limit). I know this is a really long review but, like many other Yelp reviewers, both my wife and I had really bad experiences at this dentist's, and I wanted to help readers understand what they may be in for if they decide to go here for treatment. A basic tactic the practice employs seems to be to get a patient in, diagnose a significant (likely expensive) issue, and then offer to treat it that same day. If you accept, you are likely to be stuck there for hours - they had my wife in for almost 7 hours they day they proposed installing two new crowns for her. The knock-on effects for other patients of this tactic are inevitable, and probably explain the issues with scheduling and abrupt cancellations other reviewers report and that we also experienced. Making this even worse, in my wife's case the initial treatment offered was provided in isolation of other dental issues she needs to address -- she discovered this on moving to another dentist who has told her that one of the crowns Edgewood put in should not have been done before attending to those issues. In my case, a tooth that was not giving me any problems was diagnosed as needing a crown, which the dentist went ahead and put in even after I reported feeling sensitivity and pain in the area during the prep work. Recurring pain in the two months following the procedure eventually led to their recommending a root canal (which meant I had to pay twice for work on the previously unproblematic tooth); that also failed to solve the pain, and, after two follow-up visits, I had to have the tooth extracted. The only good thing I can say is that, having lost all confidence in Edgewood, I at least went somewhere else for this procedure and had a much better experience. That leads me to another aspect of the practice that seems problematic: its one-stop-shopping approach, a variant of the basic diagnose and treat tactic I described above. Although Edgewood is a general dental practice, they offer more complicated services by bringing in an endodontist and an oral surgeon. To be fair, I had a very good experience with the endodontist, but the fact remains that there's no easy way to research who these visiting practitioners are and how they've been reviewed by patients. It's also unclear what legal rights a patient has when dealing with these visitors - they're independent agents, not part of the practice itself - or what their financial relationship with the practice is. Finally, like other Yelp reviewers, we encountered miscellaneous additional problematic issues: with the exception of one individual, the front desk staff, which has a rotating cast, are chaotic. Inconsistent price quotes, double billing, and failure to return calls - we had all of these. The dental support staff are similarly all over the place: during the 90 minutes I had to wait for my root canal to begin, two different technicians called me back to take x-rays - I had to tell the second that it had already been done. The first also told me she needed to take my blood pressure, but failed to do so; the second didn't even mention it. And, finally, some of the treatment areas double as storage space, with boxes of supplies sitting next to the dental equipment. All in all, it's a mess. So why is this practice so bad? I did a little digging online and have a theory: it's licensed to an out-of-state individual who apparently has ownership in a number of dental offices nationally. There's nothing wrong, of course, with a multi-location venture, but, at least in our experience at Edgewood Smiles, and apparently for many other reviewers, the business model appears focused on maximizing revenue generation; it certainly doesn't seem to privilege quality control in patient care. So what can one do? What I can't do is undo six months of pain and thousands of dollars of expense. I can file a complaint with the Fulton County Better Business Bureau and/or the Georgia Board of Dentistry, but neither of these is likely to do much. Dental malpractice is hard to demonstrate and, with recent legal changes in Georgia, may have become even harder to prove. So the one thing I can do is to write this review - and let you know what happened to us as you decide where you want to receive your dental care. read more

They were 40 minutes behind but it happens in the medical field so I brushed it off. TL/DR: The staff was nice enough and the place is clean, but skeptical that this office is scamming new patients. My wife and I went in together for a new patient promo ($59 for digital x-rays, exam, and cleaning). We went in for our appointments separately on the same day and were both told we were ineligible for their promotion because they had "diagnosed" us with periodontitis (the only disqualifying factor for the promo). I want to note that Dr. Sampat completely skipped over even mentioning gingivitis to tell me I was ineligible for their promo. Seems scammy, but not really why I'm leaving this review. I'm leaving this review because after they told me I wasn't good for the $59 promotion, the price jumped up to more than $1k for a *partial* deep cleaning. When I explained how this was too expensive and asked about at-home preventative care until I could come back, I was told there was nothing I could do at home that would be helpful. My wife had a similar experience, but because she mentioned sometimes grinding her teeth at night they insisted she also needed a custom $600 mouth guard.... her bill was more than $2k. Maybe I do have early onset gum disease, but at the very least I'm hoping that my physicians WANT me to be in good health even if I can't afford their premium. I love it here! Today was my first visit to this dental office and the process was very smooth. Dr. Sampat, Josh & DeAndria took such phenomenal care of me from beginning to end. I was very nervous about being seen. I felt support & compassion flowing naturally from everyone I spoke with. The staff is professional & so down to earth. The equipment is state of the art, and very clean. I should also mention that the playlist was a vibe during my entire visit! I love it here. I got 4 teeth pulled of which my prescription was sent to the wrong pharmacy that could not give me my meds and everytime i would call to get it sent to the correct place the doctor was never in to okay it .so I went with out antibiotics and pain medication . Hands down worst experience I have ever add a medical professionals office. My regular cavity filling and crown took 7 hours. Yes, 7 hours because in the middle of my fillings the dentist would have to step out and treat other patients. This means my mouth had to constantly be renumbed, however, my mouth would not get fully numbed. It was the worst pain I have felt. The dentist got angry with me for being in pain and told me it was my fault for having a "weird shaped mouth" that she could not reach the proper spots to numb. I had 4 hours of sick time to use from work and ended up having to take unpaid leave because of this. The absolute worst part about this was I paid over a thousand dollars for the crown and filling and it was not done properly. The dentist grew increasingly frustrated when the crown would not fit properly when performing the "bite test" and told me it was "good enough." When I told her how uncomfortable it was, she essentially told me to get over myself. I ended up having to go to another dentist two weeks later to have the crown replaced. The new dentist told me the crown was placed like a child did it and was not doing anything for my cavity. I called Edgewood Smiles, left voicemails, and left messages on their online messaging and NO ONE ever called me back or emailed me. I even called on my husbands phone and was hung up on. Not a single person apologized to me. I should have been refunded for this. To this day, I have not heard back and likely never will. They know they are in the wrong and do not care. I've had two appointments at this dentist be cancelled upon walking in for my appointment. I've also had a hygienist appointment be cancelled for their scheduling issue and an appointment wasn't available for months after. They now only have one hygienist on staff, so the runway for appointments is 3 months. When I did have my last hygenist appointment, she was brutal. Scam. . They misdiagnosed me. Told me i had bad cavities under my crowns that needed immediate removal. That i needed a bridge. I don't even have crowns. They rushed me out the back door when i asked for copies of my X-rays. Said they would email them immediately: nothing. I called about them. Got hung up on over and over. Finally got a jpeg of all of them (super small) in my email not my Mychart. Saw in my my chart that they charged me double the price and charged my insurance. They told me it was 59 special for X-rays and consult. All lies. Deceit. And shady AF. Called about it: was hung up on repeatedly. They have not corrected my balance or sent proper images. Attorney has been acquired. Cigna contacted. BBB contacted and in contact with the news. It is UNCONSCIONABLE to exploit people like this. Do NOT trust anything they tell you. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME NOR MONEY. I received a crown from Dr. Tina Sampa in May of 2023 and it came out less than a year of me having it. They put it back in in April 2024 and it came out again less than a month later. I went back in May for it to be put back in for the 2nd time only for it to come back out in June! No hard foods. The crown came out while I was chewing gum!! The suction from the gum easily pulled the crown out. The office is not responding to my calls to speak to the officer manager (Shanae). I left a message for the office manager to call me when she returns and she has yet to do so. I am in the process of filing an official complaint against Dr. Tina Samoa and Edgewood Dentistry. I visited this office on 2022, either 6/11? Maybe 7/11? For a consultation on implants. They seemed more than anxious to pull the teeth I did have left after an automobile accident & set me up w/partials. I have a severe underbite & the technician that came in to make the final impression on my second visit was shocked & baffled that I had an underbite & had no clue as to what to do w/it. I called the office back that afternoon and told them to stop any and all further action w/me receiving partials. I had spoke to my TMJ specialist That informed mean no partials or dentures would work w/an underbite because they would rock. I have been after this office for a refund to my flex plan card that was Almost $500. They took approx $700. From my personal account & received approx $1300. From my insur co. They have ignored myself as well as the insur co. Hung up on us both, not returned calls, claimed they are working on the refunds & cancellation of the claim but it's now been approx 8 mo & nothing has been done than they promised they would do. Everytime I've called & asked for the office mgr There's always been an excuse. My next move is to have my attorney send them a letter. They didn't wait eight months on my payment for any services that I got because I got no services. I would like to have all of my monies refunded to my account my flex plan account back to my insurance company as well as the claim canceled. Also they had turned my account over to a collection agency. This needen not be on my credit report . Should it be this needs to be removed. It's rather had to justify to me that I'm being charged for dentures when I still have all my teeth I wanked into that office with. I just moved from NYC and this place put that to shame. They have a machine which takes X-rays using 90% less radiation which is great. The staff especially Adobe and Ebony were very sweet and helpful. The overall vibe was caring especially Dr. Samat. She was very thorough. The appointment took a while that's the only con. I am new to Atlanta and was in need of teeth cleaning. Found a Dentist's office nearby Inman Park where I live. Called to make the appointment (I do not have Insurance) and was told they had a $59 New Patient Exam Package which included "CLEANING", Exam & Digital X-rays....sounds good right??? I get there 30 minutes early and wait over an hour to finally get seen. (no big deal). Get started off by getting the X-Rays and the Very Polite young lady was new and did most of them wrong so they had another "assistant" come in to help...Everyone needs some coaching right out of school, so I get it! Anyway, now for the fun part! As Usual, the Dentist came in to give me the "exam" and poked around a little bit checking my gums, and explained to me there were a few pockets that need some deeper cleaning. Ok, I get that! Now Keep in mind that my original phone call was to just schedule a regular cleaning! Sadly I had high hopes for this dentist office. Seemed like a chain but everyone was very nice and seemed professional. I went in for a night guard and had the exam, 360 X-rays and then got the goop and mold done. A week later when it was supposed to be done I got a call on the day before my follow up and was told they lost the mood and that I had to come back in. Strike 1 had to do the goop all over. Strike 2 was no call a week later when it was supposed to be done and after calling no one called me back. Strike 3 I called again 2 weeks later and was told they were having issues with the lab. Worst cleaning ever. It was done by the dentist herself. I'm pretty annoyed that I used my 6 month cleaning with my dental insurance here. I actually paid another office to get a real cleaning. On May 5, 2023, I visited Dr. Tina Sampat at Edgewood Smiles Dentistry for the first-time visit to discuss periodontist concerns. My appointment was scheduled for 8 am. When I arrived, the front desk clerk stated that the insurance verification clerk entered that they verified my insurance but did not enter any information into their system. I provided the clerk with a copy of my insurance card and a breakdown of my coverages. The dental assistant took me back to get X-rays and to visit the doctor. After speaking with Dr. Tina Sampat, she advised I had three cavities & need a crown and a deep cleaning. She said I would schedule a treatment appointment with a periodontist once I get a deep cleaning six weeks later. Then the biller came into the room and said they could not verify my insurance and would need to reschedule. I immediately contacted the insurance company for them to confirm. The biller quoted me $2200 for the work to be completed. After giving the biller $1500 down and making arrangements for the balance, they began to work on the cavities. The doctor finished the inlays, and the dentist's assistant placed the temporary crown on. After I completed it, they had me see the front desk clerk to arrange the root canal/cleaning appointments. When I spoke with the front desk clerk, she advised the earliest date is June 28. The next day the temp crown fell out my mouth. I emailed the Dr. no response. I called the office on May 8 and set an appointment for May 11 at 5 pm She said I would have to be with a different Dr. The lady I spoke with was concerned about my insurance when I called. I asked for an itemized bill, and she stated she would email it. On May 9th I called back due to not receiving the itemized bill and the clerk stated that she would resend it and she stated my appointment was at three not five on May 11th. I advised that's not what was agreed. I asked about the root canal and cleaning, and she advised cleaning would be an additional $500. Horrible first experience. read more

I wish I could leave negative stars for this establishment. I scheduled an appointment for the beginning of what was supposed to be a tooth implant. I was made to pay a deposit for the appointment, which I didn't mind because I had every intention of showing up. I arrived for my appointment ten minutes early and the operations manager Yolanda gives me paperwork to fill out. As I'm filling out the paperwork she comes over and asks me if I'm doing a portion of the procedure that I thought was standard and necessary. I tell her yes and she proceeds to tell me they don't have what they need and have to cancel my appointment. I am beyond frustrated at their lack of consideration for my time. I took time off from work to get this procedure done and they could not be bothered to make sure they had all of the materials needed to hold up their end of this appointment. I paid a deposit ahead of time so that if I did not show they would still be compensated, but what do I get if they are grossly incompetent and don't know how to order materials based on the procedures they have scheduled and ultimately have to cancel my appoint with no notice? This place only cares about lining their pockets and making sure they get paid. If you have all the time in the world and don't care to waste it trying to get dental work done here, by all means, schedule an appointment with them. The one doctor I did see seemed pleasant but their complete disregard for my time and money has turned me away for good. Lastly, beware when making deposits, they take credit card but can't refund in the manner you paid. I am now waiting for 7-10 days for a check to be sent in the mail and searching for a new dentist.
