Thursday June 3rd, 2021 Modern Dental is treating my right. The office is professional and acts like a team! They play jazz music in the office and that provides a nice groove. I like Zoe, in reception, who handled my insurance, scheduling and kept my out of pocket to a minimum. She has an international background like myself and I was able to test my German skills on her. I like Kamala, my hygienist, and for providing the initial consultation a week earlier. I also met with Dr Lawton who signed off on it all with his examination. In today's visit half my mouth was cleaned, which feels like a million bucks. The next visit, which had to be broken up due to constraints imposed by my insurer, will cover the remaining quadrant. X-rays pictures were taken in the initial consultation with the machine pictured below which scans your whole head, and traditional in the chair pictures. Make sure Yelp Checkin and get $10 off initial consultation, but if you have insurance such as Delta Dental or MetLife Dental, then the x-rays are included with no out of pocket expense to you. I feel disappointed as a customer as I was abandoned in the middle of my treatment by the previous dentist at this practice. I was initially offered a referral to another specialist, which I felt was fair and honest, and this was then rescinded after I had undergone a consultation. Communication with Modern Dental also ceased despite my attempts to make contact. I am therefore left mid treatment after spending $1000s without it completed as promised. I find it hard to believe that anyone at Modern Dental would want to be treated in this fashion, so it is unfortunate to that I have been the recipient of such actions. It displays a lack of care and consideration for the dignity of another human being and for this reason I would strongly advise against receiving dental treatment at this practice. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. This has been all around the worst dentist experience I've ever had in my entire life. This is also the very first time I've ever felt the need to post a review about a medical location to help someone avoid what I went through. As one of the earlier comments mentions the hygienist was using so much water that I left my cleaning session soaked. There was water everywhere. He was a very nice guy, but I'm doubtful he knew what he was doing fully. As for the dentist experience. I had come in for a few fillings, I waited a half hour (also completely empty office) to get into the room. Once there they put the numbing gel and I waited for another half hour! It was a full hour before they even began the process. The process itself was absolutely horrible. They used so much numbing gel/injectable that I left with half my face numb for the rest of the days. I've had to get numbed before and never before was this much used nor did it last for six plus hours later. While they were doing the filling I could literally smell them burning my teeth. The dentist was doing it so quickly and rushed that I could feel him just vigorously chipping away at my tooth and due to the speed and intensity I'm sure is what caused the burning of my tooth. Following this when I finally started feeling my mouth and face again, I noticed that they had cut my lower lip and also bruised it. The next day I also recognized the filling was actually very uneven and my bite was very much off. I had to come in for an adjustment and once again it was entering into twenty minutes of not being serviced so I let the assistant know I could not stay beyond an hour and I don't know how much longer I would have waited if I didn't speak up. The dentist comes in and starts going to work without any sort of prep or even giving my a bib to cover my clothes. Once again very rushed. All that being said. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Unless you're looking to spend 2 hours for a simple procedure that will be done poorly. The front staff is very kind and so is the hygienist, but you're coming here to service your health so that alone will not be enough to have me ever return. read more

My fiancé and I went here for the first time a few weeks ago. 1. When we first arrived, the receptionist tells us our insurance was denied when she ran it earlier in the day. We asked why she didn't call us ahead of time to tell us and she goes "I was just going to tell y'all when you got here". Not sure how that made sense in her head. Luckily, she ran it again when we got here and it worked (would hate to have driven 30 minutes just to not be seen). The ladies at the front desk were also significantly rude. It didn't feel like they had much training on customer service. 2. My fiancé and I waited almost an hour to be seen and it wasn't even crowded. They only have one hygienist which feels like this was the problem. When the hygienist cleaned our teeth, I swear it felt like more water was sprayed on my face than my teeth (highly recommend providing glasses to your clients during teeth cleaning services) 3. I will say, the dentist and office manager were both very friendly and professional. They were the only good part. read more

I have been going to Modern Dental for about 1.5 years now. I move around the country pretty often so its always tough to find a new doctor, vet, dentist, etc you can put your trust into. I heard about Modern Dental from a neighbor of mine and I was happy to go in and check them out. They have always been good at communicating with me and telling me what needs to be done. This was my first visit to Modern Dental and it was fabulous!! The offices have all the latest dental equipment!! From the moment I arrived the receptionist greeted me with enthusiasm that's rare to see in most offices!! My hygienist Alicia was very knowledgeable and did an excellent job on my teeth!! This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a professional establishment. I went in to have some fillings taken care of, and walked out with an issue. After a few weeks, I noticed that my tooth was sensitive to temperature and that I could not bite down on the tooth. I was assured by Dr. Lawton that the substitute dentist that took care of my fillings had made a slight error, but that he would fix it free of charge. Dr. Lawton is also rude to his employees in front of customers, but that's another story. Three additional visits later, and the problem still persists. Even worse, I was charged for each visit and still have not been reimbursed for the amount I overpaid for my first visit. I've called and emailed since then and the receptionist has also been unprofessional in dealing with the situation. She promises to call me back and never does, doesn't respond to emails, and is patronizing while also barely knowledgeable about the billing process. I just want my tooth to be fixed for the price that I originally paid, but Modern Dental makes it very hard to support a black business, even as a black woman. I even made this clear to the receptionist because I believe in providing constructive criticism to uplift our community, but she paid no mind to my statements as if support from the black community means nothing to this company. I shared my experience with the friend that recommended me in the first place, and he's had similar issues (pain after visit, noticed rude comments from the doctor, etc.). I will not be going back to have my tooth repaired. I am considering it as a sunk cost at this point, and hope that everyone consider other options instead of going to Modern Dental to save themselves the time and pain. read more

Wow. My first visit since the beginning of the pandemic and I couldn't have had a better experience. I got a filling from Dr. U who had me in and out in under an hour. The procedure was completely painless and I got to mumble out the answers to wheel of fortune which played on the tv that hung overhead. It made me laugh because I think I picked the worst show to watch when half of your mouth is numb. I kept trying to call out the answers but all that came out was gibberish! Dr. U was professional and absolutely made me feel comfortable. She answered all of my questions( I ask a lot of questions) and I felt like I was in good hands. I can't wait to go back! I found Modern Dental through Yelp and scheduled a visit after confirming with my insurance that my plan would be accepted for a typical cleaning/checkup. It was very easy to make an appointment and the staff was just as helpful and friendly when I came in. The office is clean and modern (hence, modern dental). They even have smart tv's for you to watch while lying back in the exam chair. I was seen quickly and did not have to wait more than 5 minutes for the assistants, dentists, x rays, etc. I could tell that they were busy because I was ultimately seen by about 4 people, which was a bit confusing and I would have rather stuck to the same 1 or 2 people. However, everyone I interacted with was professional and friendly. The staff did not try to upsell on any unnecessary treatments as so many dentist offices do and they got me in and out rather quickly. I have already recommended this office to friends and will continue to do so! read more

The setting is really nice. It's clean in the waiting area and is comfortable and my wait was minimal. The staff were so nice, including the person who took my x-ray, the folks at the front desk and also the hygienist. The hygienist also seem like she did such a thorough job. And while I was getting my teeth cleaned I could watch a TV that was hanging from above, which was awesome. I also liked getting free samples of toothbrush and tooth paste. I think there's a lot of attention to client comfort just in terms of the way that this place is set up. However when I met with Dr. Lawton I didn't feel as positively. His tone was brash, he told me I was full of cavities, and even suggested that I may need braces before taking a look at my teeth. I think I would give this place five stars but for the bedside manner. I left the office feeling bad and ashamed and I wish the doctors would realize how feeling ashamed can influence patients likelihood of returning and getting the care and the services that they need. Perhaps he was having a bad day and I otherwise like this spot so I am open to returning and seeing how things go. read more

Had three fillings done at once on some of my upper molars. Dentist seemed to be in a rush and was bouncing between me and other patients. Dentist didn't get the fillings done evenly and I experienced horrible pain while eating during the week following the fillings. Had to go back and have him grind down the fillings to alleviate the pain. During the follow up I was placed into the room closest to the front desk. That room apparently had faulty equipment. The tech polished my teeth as part of a follow up to a deep cleaning. The polishing drill was overheating and actually burned me when it was touched to my lip. I woke up with a blister the next morning. All of this took place in January of 2015. I filed a complaint with the Georgia dentistry board over it. I'm sure other people will have a better experience but mine was horrible. I have switched dentists; I would not recommend Modern Dental. read more

These people are very bad with communication in their back office. Just tried scheduling an appointment & the insurance coordinator hoped on the phone & kept confusing things by telling me stuff that didn't have anything to do with my questions. Then told me he had an appointment for this upcoming Wednesday ,which wd be the following day, then came back and said oh that's in October (4 wks from now). They really need more training on customer service. Why wd I wait a whole 4 wks when I have PAIN NOW. Ugh read more

The business practices at Modern Dental are very concerning. I was seen for an appointment in 2018 and had a (not great, but) fine experience with the hygienist and dentist. However, I became concerned when I was scheduled for a follow up appointment when I specifically asked not to be scheduled for any additional appointments. I have now responded to multiple text reminder messages attempting to cancel this appointment and spoken to individuals at the office on more than one occasion indicating that I do not want this follow up appointment. I just received another phone call from the office reminding me about my upcoming appointment, so my previous attempts at canceling the appointment were not successful. Eric Lawton and his staff are great! Eric completed my wisdom tooth extraction that left me with practically zero pain. I also had a cleaning completed a month ago, unfortunately, I can't remember the staff member's name but it was such a pleasant experience that I almost fell asleep in the chair. I have been a patient at Modern Dental for 8 plus years. During Covid, I lost my insurance but will pay out of pocket to continue my services with Dr. Lawton. I have terrible history with other dentists and previously would need laughing gas just for a cleaning due to my past trauma BUT that's not the case here! I actually don't think I've ever had to get gas, only local anesthesia for numbing and I've had a ton of work done. I trust him to provide the best solutions and care. His team remembers me and help guide me through the processes. Ashley and KK are just the cherry on top! I had a visit last week and had a new hygienist (who was great.... I took her advice and no longer using dental floss sticks, but use regular floss as my way of daily flossing lol) but Ashley and KK made sure to come by and check on me still. See y'all next month!
