We came in for a girls night, and to try the girl dinner that they had been promoting. It came with Steak, Fries and a Caesar Salad and cocktail, which I think is a perfect combo. It was just enough food. Before we started our meal, we ordered the Onion Rings appetizer, and they were so good. Came out super hot and crispy batter with a yummy aioli for dipping. The steak came out perfectly cooked to my liking, the fries, super yummy, wished I had more! And the salad was light and crisp. I opted for the espresso martini, which again, made to my liking! I also ordered another drink, a vodka martini, which was nice crisp and smooth. To round out our evening, we ordered the bread pudding for dessert. They ran out of ice cream, but it was not needed. This is one of the best bread pudding's I've ever had. It had a nice toasted bottom, and was warm and gooey throughout each bite. I was only going to take a bite, but that was hard to do, so we devoured it pretty quickly. Suffice to say, I'll order that as an appetizer on my next visit!

A couple of minutes later, a guy walks up, I tell him my name and that I'm there for party inder said name, and he basically just waves me up the elevator. Like I said, it was my first time--I had no idea what to expect or how to get around. What started out as a nice experience turned into "meh" not long after the appetizers, which were good, by the way. When the main courses started to arrive, at least three people in my party weren't happy with their food. One sent her plate back and decided not to order anything else. After seeing that, I just went for a salad to avoid further disappointment with my own food. The bill was the next headache. The waitress seemed to try her best, but she needed help. It took over an hour to get things sorted out. There was no follow-up, no "sorry for your inconveniences," especially on my birthday, or anything. Other than the restaurant's look, the apps, and I guess the cocktails, I wouldn't recommend coming for anything outside of happy hour.

YEEHAW! BULL RIDING, LINE DANCING, AND MORE!!! 03/03/24…read more I recently celebrated my friend's birthday here at this establishment. It was my first time visiting a country club and I must say I had the most fabulous time ever! There was country music and line dancing galore! The overall ambiance and vibe of the club was raging with excitement and pure energy. It's absolutely enormous inside and there's more than one bar available at this establishment. With all the many dancers crowding the dance floor, it's a good thing this place is humongous. However, the ironic thing about all that space is that there's extremely limited seating availability provided; that is if you have not reserved a table for a birthday party. It seemed like every table was reserved for a party because my daughter and I walked every inch of that club and could not find an available table to sit at because they were all reserved for a party. However, there were plenty of seats around the dance floor, but they were taken as well. So, my advice would be to reserve a table in advance even if you are not celebrating a birthday party. This will at least ensure that you have somewhere to sit and rest your feet after leaving the dance floor. My friend, the birthday girl, did not reserve a table for her party thinking that there would be abandoned tables in the building. Big huge mistake. Furthermore, we ordered drinks all night because the prices were inexpensive. Be prepared to leave tips for the bartender if they truly deserve the tip. As I mentioned previously, there is more than one bar in this establishment. At the bar located to the immediate right as you first enter the entrance doors, there was a blonde haired female bartender and a Latino male bartender working that particular area. Both of them were unfriendly and unwelcoming. I could literally feel the ice-cold energy flowing through their veins. My daughter and I were asking them if they had any good suggestions for us since we really didn't know what we wanted to drink. We tried placing our order with the male bartender first who would not speak up for us to understand him. We asked him what drinks were on the menu for the night and he kept repeating something that we could not understand and he kept a monotone vibe as if he didn't care for us ordering at his bar. As a result, my daughter and I turned to the female bartender in hopes that she would be a little friendlier. She wasn't any better. She acted as if she did not know what to suggest from their own drink menu. She asked us what we wanted to drink and I responded to her, "Ma'am we are asking you and the gentleman for any suggestions because we are indecisive at the moment." She kept acting like a "dumb blonde" as if she did not know what to suggest so we just asked for a lemon drop which was okay. It wasn't strong at all and watery. I left her a tip and moved along. I was not pleased at all with the way they treated us. As a result of the lackadaisical bartenders at the first bar, my daughter and I decided to move to the back of the building and visit the other bar. This bartender was on and popping! He was very entertaining, friendly, and welcoming. He also had a mini chalkboard on display that listed the featured drinks of the night. Now this is what I was asking the other two unfriendly and unwelcoming bartenders about their featured drinks on the menu because they did not have a menu on display, or even offer a menu, or even suggest that we scan a QR code to see the drinks menu. Keep in mind this was my first time and my daughter's first time visiting this place so we were kind of lost. However, the other bartender is located directly in the back. When you first enter the doors you can see him working hard mixing and shaking drinks and serving the crowd like a professional mixologist. He was down-to-earth friendly and relatable. I spent all my dollars and tip money at his bar for the rest of the night and I purchased plenty of drinks all night. If I ever return to this establishment I will never patronize the other two bartenders. They need to stay at home because they do not know how to entertain their guests properly. Overall, Whiskey River is an exciting and fun place to be on a Friday or Saturday night if you want to dance or even ride the bull. Bull riding was fun but impossible to stay on during the whole ride. You will get thrown off no matter what. From the looks of the bull, it seems as if it's designed for you not to be able to stay on. Everyone gets thrown off no matter how hard you try to stay on, but it was so much fun! The dance floor is a nice size but can get overcrowded. The food is absolutely delicious, especially the beef quesadillas. Be prepared to show your ID before entering the building. There's a bouncer at the door asking the guests to show identification before being admitted. Would have given 5 stars if it hadn't been for the two rude bartenders' sore attitudes.

Second, I discovered that they're owned by the same people behind Masraff's. That's a good start. They're located in a shopping center with several other businesses, including a cat vet right next door. While it was busy, I didn't have trouble finding a parking spot. Ambiance (4/5): This is part of where By Popular Demand (BPD) shines. The interior is trendy, with both tabletop seating and more comfortable chairs and sofas. There's a small patio in the front and a larger one on the side. There aren't a ton of seats inside, so think of it as a smaller, more intimate bar. Service (3.5/5): A little slow to start out with as it took our waitress a good while to come and take our order (we were sitting on the front patio). She did apologize for the delay, and she was friendly from there on out, so things improved throughout our evening there. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so I was on a liquid diet. I have heard they have a pretty awesome steak night on Mondays though. Next time around! Drinks (3.5/5): While they have a full bar, BPD is a cocktail bar. They have 10-12 craft cocktails, plus everything else you would expect at a bar. I went with That Cucumber Drink. I'm always a fan of any cocktail that incorporates cucumber. It was one of the few items on the menu that stood out to me. A decent number of of the offerings are more of your standard cocktails (margaritas, ranch waters, etc.) and a good number have brown liquor (while I prefer clear liquor). Not the best menu for my taste, but that's not to say it's not a solid menu. Next time around, I'll have to stop by for steak night or to try out their food menu.

Upon arrival we noticed the live music was held on the outside patio that's shared with some other neighboring restaurants. We approached the hostess and requested to sit outside however she stated there were no open tables. I asked if we could be notified when a table opened and she stated yes. In the meantime we sat in the bar area. A gentleman approached us initially to take our drink order, then he switched with another waitress. The restaurant was really nice with dim lighting that sets the tone for an intimate date night. We ordered a wedge salad, crab cakes, steak, fries, and mac n cheese. Presentation of the food was really nice and overall the food was decent. We anticipated this steakhouse being comparable to a Perry's or Kirby's, however customer service and food quality did not meet the bar as we expected. There were a few tables that opened up outside however the hostess never informed us that we could move to the patio. That was disappointing as we mainly came for the music. But overall it was a decent experience.

TL:DR it is a solid choice for a special experience and a great steak. I would go again. We started off with a couple of mocktails: The Blood Orange Fizz and the mint virgin Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned was a very tasty concoction--no alcohol burn of course but it captured the sharpness of an Old Fashioned and I really liked the mint. The Blood Orange Fizz was a mild disappointment--it had very little fizz and really needed it. Flavor was OK but not as good flat. We later got a bourbon flight, which was delivered by the bourbon sommelier and was quite fun. For starters we got a wedge salad, the Steakhouse Meatballs, and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The salad was fine, a standard garden salad with nice fresh ingredients. The meatballs were excellent--a steak and pork belly blend with a blueberry pepper sauce with onion strings. Great texture, lots of umami and good salt flavor. I absolutely want these next time. Same with the bacon wrapped scallops. They come on a bed of 3-cheese grits that were wonderfully creamy. The sauce has just a little heat. The scallops and bacon were cooked just right. Their seafood entrees are served over these grits, and though we didn't get any seafood I would try some next time for the grits. On to the mains: We had the Refuge Filet, the New York Strip, the Wood-fired Chicken, and the pork chop. The Refuge Filet was the highlight--the jalapeno, bacon and bleu cheese really complement the steak flavor. The steak was impeccably tender and done just right. The New York Strip was also very good. I am not a fan of this cut--when I cook it at home it's always tough. But their version is reasonably tender and has great flavor from the tallow butter they put on it. The steaks came with mashed potatoes that were pretty bland and ordinary. The wood-fired chicken was tender and had good flavor. It is marinated in lemon but we couldn't really taste it except in the bed of risotto. The risotto was quite good, nice and creamy. The pork chop was complicated. It had a tender uniform texture all the way through and nice flavor. I couldn't find any grain in it, almost like it was a fine grind. The sauce was ok, a bit one-note sweet for me. Different from and perhaps better than Perry's chop, but I think I would try something else next time. These dishes came with Apple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts and roasted carrots. The brussels sprouts were a disappointment. Might have known since it's misspelled on the menu. The brussels sprouts were barely cooked and quite tough, with too much of the bottom stem left on, adding to the bitterness. The roast carrots were fine. Since we had a birthday in the party we were treated to a special dessert. Birthday dessert at The Refuge has two major advantages--a nice tableside presentation of bread pudding flambe, and no annoying birthday song. Yay! Definitely tell them it's your birthday. The dessert is a banana bread pudding topped with ice cream. Rather uniform texture but good flavor and excellent with the ice cream. The ambiance is appropriately dark and sumptuous for a fancy steakhouse. The bathrooms are upscale, with available cloth towels. Service was fine but at a pretty relaxed pace, I definitely felt ready for the next course before it came. But we at times requested things from waiters other than the one waiting our table, and they responded immediately--good teamwork. This is not a bargain place, but we got out for under $100 apiece which I actually think is pretty good for an end-to-end meal. If you go to a steakhouse for steaks, you will do well at The Refuge.
