They have a pretty interesting concept of pouring your own beer or wine (or hell mix the two) and getting charged by the ounce that I haven't seen in Houston before but apparently it's a trendy thing that they have in Austin and other places. I'm not a beer drinker anymore and can't keep up with all the different microbrews and what not so this is right up my ally since I can just sample all the different beers without much commitment. How it works is you go and give your credit card, get another card like you would at a Chuck E Cheese and use that card to run up your tab. Then when you're done, you go back and close out or if there is a long line or something, just drop off their card in one of the self-checkout bowls they have according to how much tip you want to leave. Unfortunately for me, both times I've been here, it's been hot and humid so the patio wasn't that pleasant but they leave bug spray on the tables for you to use which is nice. It's dog friendly too. They have indoor seating too but I'd imagine the patio is better once the weather gets cooler. read more

A dog-friendly neighborhood oasis, Benny Thunders is a quaint self-pour pub tucked away in the Heights. They offer a great selection of well-known breweries and a few lesser known (at least, to me). They cater to all the right needs of urban-dwellers: food trucks, good drinks, and one day, when the weather works in our favor, a host of outdoor activities (giant Jenga, cornhole, outdoor seating). A marvelous little shoutout to the manager: we tried to call before arriving and the calls weren't getting answered. The manager went out of his way to actually call us back. I come every month for their speed puzzling night. I love that they host unique activities like that. I have only tried their rosé (not a huge beer person) and it was delicious. The staff is also lovely. I do wish there were more food options but there are also plenty of food spots in the area so it's not a big deal. read more

Checked out this place for the first-time during Lights in the Heights. Love the concept of self-pour beer/wine business, Decent selections of well-known breweries and wine/ciders options as well. The seating can be limited inside but outdoor patio is rather nice with games and very dog friendly. Great for groups and parties. A very busy night but great atmosphere during our visit. My new favorite place, especially since it's a five-minute walk from my house! First, the concept is really cool and fun. I really like that each selection has information about it on the screen, which makes it easier to know what you're getting. Second, the selection is great and it's fun to get a flight and try a number of different things. I've had some good (and not so good) stuff that I probably would have never tried if I had had to commit to a full glass. Easygoing atmosphere with a lot of outdoor seating. Dog and kid friendly, although I don't know why people would bring their infants to a taproom. Not a ding against BT, just the kid who threw the playing cards all over the place. The venue is terrific. They have done a wonderful job creating an oasis just off White Oak that feels miles removed even though it is little more than 100 feet from the mayhem. The beer selection (did not look at anything else) is very good and well organized. The beer is pricey at $8-10 per pint and I am not a fan of the self service system. Ordering craft beer is one of those activities that benefits greatly from a knowledgable server. The food was expensive and was pretty average (10/10 for trying to be inventive but not quite working). Overall a nice place but we will probably go back to our local breweries instead. read more

Really great atmosphere and concept. My group and I went on Friday night, it wasn't too busy which was nice, we went there at about 5pm and decided to walk some of our friends back to their apartment around 7pm. When a couple of us tried to come back about 30 minutes later at 7:30 we were denied service because "we spilled our drinks all over the floor". The quite literally never happened, my group sat outside the entirety of the time we were there, besides when we went to fill our glass. I asked the man working for suggestions of the most popular brews, his favorite, etc. and he just overall wasn't too happy to be there. 10/10 for the atmosphere but the service was not my favorite read more

Manager and owner were extremely nice. They welcomed me and helped me out with the whole system as it's completely different than any other system that's out there that's a normal wine bar/beer bar. They told me I could taste as many as I wanted as long as I put in the card and then showed me how I could pour it. The ambience is really nice. I love the back yard. The bathrooms are really nice. The front desk person is kind and informative.they have live music , dogs are aloud . be careful. It can be very dangerous if you put your card in and you pour it because there's no limit . it doesn't have a 2 ounce 6 ounce and an 8 ounce pour it you pour it and then you stop that's how much money you spend. i enjoyed the small vibes . read more

I will admit i am not a beer person, but our book club decided to try this place and i am glad we did! I brought my 2 dogs, and they were treated like royalty! given water bowls and treats right when they came in! My dogs even got a little too excited and made a minor mess, but they were friendly in assisting to clean it up. Even though i don't like beer as my first choice i was able to try many different varieties and self-pour the amount i wanted and not forced to drink a full glass lol. Amazing location right in the heights off white oak. The atmosphere was very casual and they have plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas giving customers plenty of shade. They have very limited indoor seating so beware if you don't want to sit outside. This place is also great for groups! Now, to the good stuff, this is the only place in Houston I know that is self pour not only for beer, but wine as well. Buyer beware though, you are pouring your own beer and wine so you are responsible for the tab racking up haha. Ended up dropping by the following weekend with a group of friends during the day, and it made for a great hang out spot. The self-pour has a bit of a learning curve to get some beers served just right, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They have some card and yard games to play as well, which makes it quite fun. Also, there was always a staff member regularly clearing out empty glasses, which was quite nice and kept the place clean.
