It was my pleasure to come here recently to see the Cirque Du Dance show that was put on. And what a show it was! I loved it and frankly it was one of the best evenings out I have had in a long time. Edmond Town Hall Theater is a gem. I'd been here before to see movies but this was my first time seeing the amazing dance performance. Such talented people and amazing music! It was an amazing experience. The seats are comfy and they were selling popcorn..delicious..I got seconds! The show as spectacular. Not only were the dancers amazing but at the end, came the highlight. And that was seeing one of the dancers propose to another dancer. (She said yes.) What an evening! If you have not been here, you should go. It's a warn and amazingly fun place. I plan to be back. read more

"Sugar Mountain" A Neil Young tribute band played Friday in Newtown Connecticut. A fantastic show! Although the band was integrated well, the Lead vocalist and lead guitar were both clear standouts. Their pictures and video clips on their website do not do them justice. To Anyone that enjoys Neil Young's music or even the genre (for lack of a better word) treat yourself to a couple of hours with this band. Lead singer made a brief but heartfelt comment about his late veteran Dad. It was well received by the crowd. that says something about him as well as the crowd. I've been coming here since I was 6 or 7 years old. I love this place! $2 dollar tickets. Decent prices on snacks. New seats compliments of the Lions Club. Balcony for that old theater feel. Club card gets you one free movie after nine shows. This place also gives you that small town community feel, especially at night when Newtown's quaint New Englandy Main St. is lined with parked cars from people watching a film. The Edmond Town Hall Theater was a secret only known to locals until the advent of Yelp and other review sites. There has always been a movie theater in the building since the completion of construction in the 1930s. The theater is open seven days a week and has showings in the evenings with some matinees here and there. The sign out front is changed pretty much every Friday to reflect the movie playing in the upcoming week. Movies shown are family friendly with no previews. Once in awhile, the theater hosts musical acts, comics, ballet or the like. I watched movies here all the time when I was growing up. Most movies are a few weeks old by the time that they get to Edmond, but at only $2 per ticket, it is worth the wait. The concessions are much cheaper than any other area theaters. You used to be able to bring your own popcorn as well. I'm not sure if that is still an option. read more

What was once the high school is now Town Hall, with the former auditorium transformed into the local movie house, albeit one without comfortable seats, a decent-sized screen, or a sophisticated sound system. The feature film is usually old enough to be on the verge of video and DVD release. The firehouse is nearby, and if the siren that alerts the volunteer brigade should go off, half the audience will jump up and run for the exit, while the rest of us struggle to hear the dialogue over the din. But admission is only $2 (see five films and the sixth is free), the popcorn is fresh, and there are no commercials before the show. Okay, this time Yelp has gone to far!! I nearly had a seizure when I came upon a review for this quaint and magical place, the Edmond Town Hall Theater. And I found not one review, but two. And the first by that amazing world-traveler and reviewer extraordinarie, Gourmet G to boot! I still have the goose-bumps. As a child and a teenager, this theater served as my introduction to the bygone era of Movie Theater. With a balcony and intact orchestra pit, this place shows one movie each week, changing films on Friday. Mostly, the films are several weeks old, but of course the ticket price is cut-rate. In the vernacular of my childhood, we found the name a little daunting, so we called this place Edmonton (like the city in Alberta). The building houses the administrative offices for the town of Newtown and a firehouse. The balcony is often closed, unless the show is packed. I have not been in many, many years, but have only the fondest memories. Little boys may really like this place, because, when using the bathroom they have the added challenge of trying not to fall into the urinal. It used to be a huge porcelain backstop/trough variety. A kid, if unsupervised, had 180 degrees of peeing freedom. read more

At first I found the theater/movie hall dirty and a little smelly, but as time went by, i found it helped me keep up with the slew of movies that I just couldn't keep up with at the movie cinemaplexes! Everything a movie theater should be. I recently moved to Connecticut from Portland, OR, where I rediscovered the love I had for watching movies with strangers that had been squashed in my college years by high ticket prices. I was bummed to leave behind the affordable second-run theaters that are prevalent in Portland - but then I discovered Edmond Town Hall. Movies here are not only affordable (still $2!) but also located in Newtown's hitoric downtown - "just north of the flagpole!" as the telephone recording at the theater states. This theater belongs in the community, as opposed to more prevalent giant theaters surrounded by even giant-er parking lots. No visit to the theater is complete without stopping for Ferris Acres ice cream afterwards. read more

This is the most awesome movie theater ever! I actually come here every time I make it out this way! The place used to be the old town hall and they converted it into a movie theater! I've never had a issue with parking. The people here are also super nice! They usually feature one to two movies per week and they are super awesome! They have a decent concession stand with fresh popcorn and all of the snacks that you could want. You may want p show up a little early because there is usually some kind of line that is really long and can make you miss the first part of the movie if you want snacks. The inside of the theater is awesome! You can sit up top or down below. They doors shut and the lights turn off, and you get are in a crowd full of amazing people enjoying a movie at this place! The best part of this movie theater is the price! You really can't beat a $2 movie! It's a good way to beat the heat on a hot day! read more

Love this place for what it is and, come on, for $2 you've got to expect a few bumps here and there, no big deal. But last week was a first. My friend and I came for the Thursday night showing of "Guardians of the Galaxy" - which I had verified on Edmond Town Hall's website that day. We got inside to find out that the digital projector was broken and "Guardians of the Galaxy" couldn't be shown but instead they were going to show "Captain America 2" on blu-ray. Apparently the projector had been broken for a few days and previous showings of the movie had been straight up cancelled - none of which was reflected on their website, Facebook, or Twitter. After a few minutes of messing around with the blu-ray, "Captain America" started.......without sound. The movie ran for ~10 minutes with no sound until someone finally turned it off and started playing with the settings. 10 minutes later the sound was back and all was going well until someone tried to skip the previews which for some reason screwed everything up again. 15 minutes and it starts again with sound and they let the previews play (ironically we got to see the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trailer!). Then the movie starts.......~10 minutes in, up to where we'd watched it without sound. Everyone wanted them to restart it but nothing happened and after about 10 minutes we all just settled down and decided to watch the movie. We got about 15 minutes total of the actual movie with sound before the lights went on and someone came in and told us they were closing down. We asked why - because the movie was FINALLY playing - but received no answer besides where to get our $2 back. Like I said, I don't expect that much for $2 and if this situation had been handled better I probably wouldn't be so annoyed. But they knew there was an issue, had cancelled previous showings, and planned a change of movie to accommodate the problem - why wasn't any of that communicated to the public? That's what social media is FOR - why have a Facebook or Twitter at all if it's not going to relay important information like that? Still, when things are running, I really do love Edmond Town Hall and this one bad experience isn't going to keep me from going back - but the lack of communication and lack of professionalism was really surprising from such a normally well-run place. read more

Sometimes the little kids are a tad annoying in the afternoons, but they quiet down when the movie gets going. I'm amazed so many Californians and other out-of-towners have experienced this little-town gem. I'm often there with multiple kids in tow. You can bring in your own popcorn, candy and drinks or purchase them there. Most theater sized boxes of candy are $1. Tickets are $2. A Great deal!! The seats have been replaced with comfy high back chairs with cup-holders. (balcony has not been replaced yet.) Sound system sounds fine to me. First you'll be in awe of the beautiful millwork and amazing soft lit dome in the ceiling of the antique theatre. After a mantinee, go to the neat general store next door for ice cream or a great sandwich. Enjoy a stroll up and down the sidewalks and view the lovely historical homes. read more

The theater, however, is probably what this place is most known for -- every Thursday, there's a few movies playing here for a week that are releases that came out a couple weeks ago. I'm giving it 5 stars although I haven't been there since I was a kid. This is probably one the few things I miss from my home town. And yes my parents are included. But wow! I have fond fond memories of this place. It was pretty much the only thing you could to in Newtown other than hang out in parking lots. And man it was (and still seems) so cheap. I also got to preform many times on that stage (ballet). I remember that there was a concession stand (but so small) and if you didn't want to buy anything at the theater, the general store was next door. Come on how cute is that?! Ok maybe a little over the top. But still what a great theater! Only down side was if you were a kid going to the movies with your friends there was no way avoiding running into friends of your parents. Small town. read more

Remember to sign up for the frequent punch card pass to get a free movie. Small old style theater place too! Thank you to the Edmond Town Hall team for hosting the Chamber of Commerce of Newtown's Destination Newtown 2016 in September 2016. We had over 40 vendors and 300 plus guests. The Edmond Town Hall Team helped with the set-up and any questions we had during and after the event. The building was clean and welcoming. There was ample parking for all, the sound system in the Alexandria Room worked great, the room was cool and the wifi was available. Wow...it's still there? I remember, as a kid, probably circa 1957, going to see movies at the Town Hall. Indelible memory. I'm shocked that it's still a venue for movies. I'm 60 (it's 2010) years old, and I wonder if anyone is old enough to remember Silver City? It was a recreation of an old western town, sort of like Dodge City, and it was in Newtown or one of the town surrounding Newtown. They had reenacted gunfights in the street, and it was all set up just like a western town of the 1800s, complete with wooden sidewalks, horses being ridden everywhere by "extras" who were just there to add western flavor. They also had a rodeo, and you bought funny money, or scrip, to use to buy anything from ice cream sundaes to burgers done right in front of you on an outdoor grill (chuck wagon). They also had stagecoach rides and you could rent horses to ride the trails where the stagecoach also ran. It was incredible fun. My cousin was dating one of the Brahma bull riders (I won't mention his name), but I have wonderful summer memories of this place. I hope somebody out there remembers this place as clearly as I do. You can't find anything about it on the Internet. read more

You really can't beat $2 for a movie! Its cheaper than renting it at Blockbuster! The movies they show are usually ones that are just out of the theater, but not on DVD yet. They show one movie a week, and sometimes two in the summer - a kids show in the afternoon and whatever is popular at night. The snack prices are reasonable, and the new seats are comfortable.
