Even if Bartlett turned the wood into toothpicks I still wouldn't pay that kind of coin. Stump grinding by Bartlett would have been $350. Ed's cut it so low I didn't 'need' a grind. read more

A year later and just had Ed's Tree Service remove a large hemlock tree that was about 3' in diameter growing about 2' off the foundation of my house. 2 main leaders with overhead power lines between them along with FIOS and unused telco and cable lines. Tree was removed without issue and stump ground. Be sure to ask for summer or senior discount. Another job well done. read more

Tyrone visited my house this morning to provide a proposal for tree removal. He was very thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable. We signed a contract, and we'll see how the works plays out. I'll post a follow-up once I see how the crew does. UPDATE: These guys knocked it out of the park yesterday. A crew of five men spent about five hours removing a tall, scraggly spruce too close to the house; a sorry looking 15' cherry; a misplaced, fruiting 20' plum next to a swimming pool (!); two 9' bushzillia hollies; a fallen cedar; a dozen or so assorted volunteer locus and mulberry saplings; and cleared probably 4000 feet of brush, not to mention grinding five stumps. This was s ton of work done cheerfully by a group of nice men all for a fair price. I'll need to deal with more trees next year and plan to give Tyrone a call for another estimate. read more

I had an excellent experience with Ed's Tree Service. The owner donates to a local charity yearly and I won a tree and tree planting in the auction at a reasonable bid. A beautiful crepe myrtle was planted last year. Unfortunately the cicadas feasted on it and it died. They agreed to replace it at no charge to me. It's been great dealing with Alice, Laura, and the others. The young men who come out to plant are professional and hard-working. My experience is that this is an excellent company. read more

This is a homeowner's dream tree service!! I had a BIG job for them to do. I needed a large diseased maple tree, two massive 15' tall Holly bushes, and 5 overgrown Euonymus bushes removed, all with stumps ground down. In addition, there were 6 large Maple trees in my yard and 8 trees along the backwoods that required lower branches removed and copious thinning throughout the upper branches. I called Alice and she came out the next day and gave me an amazingly reasonable estimate. She was delightfully personable and very knowledgeable and informative as we discussed what to expect on the day the work would be done. She was even able to schedule the work just a few days later. I had a big tree fall on a house, and it partially also fell in another big tree. They cost more than the next bid, in part because they brought in a crane, but more importantly because they seemed to know what they were doing in a tricky area. They were safe with wires, though they didn't at first clean up a lot of branches of the other tree that braced the fall. After some communication though, they did come back and clean up the other tree, so I have to give them a lot of credit for that. In addition I had them take down much of another dead tree, and one branch had a birds nest in a knot. Unfortunately there was some communication break down, as they ended up cutting too low. In general they were very quick about responding and doing a very good and safe job in a difficult spot, though I would make sure everything you want is communicated properly. read more

Ed's charged $900 for a crew of five to perform 45 minutes of work at my home. Moreover, one of their crew was a worthless goof-off who did no work, at all. He, instead, squandered the whole time, sitting in the shade, trying to chit-chat with me, rather than working. And so, I am unsure why I was paying for his time. That guy should be fired, and I brought his laziness to Ed's attention. The fee of $900 was based upon Ed's estimate that pruning would take a crew of five, two to three hours. But then, the project took less than one hour, which implies my $900 fee over-estimated, by three times, how long the project would take. Most homeowners hire a tree surgeon, no more often than once every ten years. That means homeowners have no basis for comparison. So, I have no way to know whether I was over-charged or not. But, I feel like I was; and Ed's made no effort to assure me, otherwise. The proposal instead was offered to me as "take it or leave it". If I really cared about getting a fair price, then I could have solicited proposals from Ed's competitors. But, I didn't because I trusted Yelp; and Ed's had already achieved a 5-star rating, here at Yelp. The tree pruning, itself, was excellent. But I feel like I was over-charged by about $400. For only 45 minutes of work; $500 would have been a fair price. Another concern is that the back of Ed's proposal contained several legal provisions, as "fine print". Its presence was never brought to my attention. I was only shown the front of the proposal and instructed where to sign. I did not see the legal provisions, until after I had signed. If I had it to do over, I would have relied less on 5-star ratings at Yelp and relied more upon soliciting more than one proposal from more than one tree surgeon. It might have saved me several hundred dollars. read more

They might have done great work but I'll never know. Their estimate was over $15k just to cut two large trees and leave the stumps. I checked with many other companies. The next highest estimate was $6500, and the lowest was $2900. There is no excuse for this type of predatory pricing. read more

Top kudos to Eds Tree service. We contacted four tree service companies to address a tree that was too close to the house for comfort. One never responded, and one responded after well over a week (by this time, we had already made arrangements with Ed's) Of the two quotes we received, Ed's went above and beyond. They inspected the yard for any other tree issues that needed to be addressed, and included a detailed list of services to be provided. The other quote was not only higher, but was did not address issues aside from the tree that concerned us. Don't give your money to Ed's Tree Service because their work is substandard and their customer service is bad. I rarely post reviews to Yelp, but I was compelled to do so in this case. I only wish I had the option to give them zero stars. We have a large tree in our backyard where a family of raccoons was living. Raccoon waste carries disease, so we didn't want our children to get sick from it. We paid a trapper a considerable amount of money to catch and remove them. We coordinated in advance with Ed's Tree Service to have a barrier put over the hole in the tree so no animals could get in. Ed's Tree Service did such a bad job closing off the hole that THEIR OWN EMPLOYEE later said it was shoddy work and, no surprise, an enterprising raccoon made short work of their crummy barrier. Did Ed's Tree Service take responsibility for their bad work and have the integrity to fix the problem? The answer is decidedly NO. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Alice gave us a very fair price. She told us that we did not need to install a cable system, which the other tree company had tried to sell to us. The team came several days later with 5 people (2 climbers, 3 on the ground) and safely trimmed our tree in about an hour. Ed's was recommended to me by my realtor when we moved into our house. Tyrone came out and gave me an estimate. He was very knowledgeable, fair, and friendly. We actually had a few estimates but chose Ed's because of Tyrone. He was honest and offered suggestions and solutions to our tree issues that no one else did. The price was very fair and competitive as well. Our job took 2 days and both days, they came with a full staff and they worked hard all day. They are fast with estimates. I called and I think they came out the very next day. They put the estimate in my mailbox, we didn't need to be home for it.
