Before I get into details, I just want to say that if you shop around I think eventually you will find a landscaper with a lower price. Don't do it though! Saving money in the short run for a crappy job, you'll end up paying a lot more in the long run when you have someone else fix all of the mistakes. I've made that error before and paid dearly. It's the equivalent of buying cheap pants you have to replace every year, vs paying a bit more for quality pants that last a decade. Ok, sermon over. Did more awesome work! Lots of mulching and weeding. These are both jobs that are easy to do half-assed. Pull a few weeds and throw some mulch over them. Less thorough landscapers also use just a thin layer of mulch instead of a thicker layer like you are supposed to. Melvin Reyes and his crew did as good of a job as could be done. We hired MDR after moving into our house about 16 months ago. We had too many other projects to do last year to hire a landscaper thwn. I have no idea when someone last did real landscaping here, but it needed more than what I was doing. We needed a clean up, a large amount of mulch, a stone path rebuilt, a little trimming (I do most trimming myself), and a hole filled and reseeded. I got 5 tree quotes and not only was MDR the most affordable but they had the best timing! My backyard is sandwiched in between 5 other yards and I had a huge tree on the gutter and 7 others in the yard. They were on time, careful, kind and meticulous. They even helped me repair a spot in my fence that was broken before they came. I had a huge tree with a fence running through the middle, a few places said they would have to leave a 6 foot stump and Melvin removed the entire thing! Melvin and his men are consummate professionals who will do whatever it takes to leave you with a great finished product. Just ask my giant wasp nest, a totally unexpected obstacle that made their job much harder and more dangerous. Melvin and his crew did a fantastic job taking down a large tree in the middle of our backyard, taking out a number of shrubs and three other dead trees, trimming a dead limb off another large tree, and cleaning up (and mulching) our weeded-over flower beds. They got a ton done in about a day and a half and worked diligently the entire time. After taking down the large tree and grinding down the big stump, they spread additional soil and grass seed so that we could expand the yard for our kids to play. Our neighbors have commented on what a difference it has made! We got several quotes and they were very competitive. My neighbor hired Melvin and his team to take down a large maple tree in their front yard. I watched the team arrive, setup their equipment, and get to work. They were super professional and took care to minimize their impact on the lawn. The entire tree was down, chipped, and removed in one day and they did an amazing job cleaning up the lawn with blowers and rakes. They didn't even leave a single chip. Both my neighbor (another neighbor) and I were so impressed that we came out and hired them to do some additional tree work on our properties. The guys came back today and took some old limbs out of our super tall maple trees and they look great. Same thing, perfect cleanup job! Although MDR only had a couple yelp reviews, I contacted them because they were very glowing reviews. Unfortunately I had a very different experience and cannot recommend them because they pulled a ridiculous bait and switch on price. I asked Melvin for a quote to remove a pile of bamboo that I had cut in my backyard. He was very friendly and personable, and told me it would be $250. I agreed and we scheduled a date. When he arrived about 10 days later, he first said they did not bring their wood chipper because it was having issues, and then said that the pile of bamboo was bigger than he remembered, and that they would not do the job unless I paid $150 more (i.e, the $250 job was now $400). He said I must have added to the pile a lot, but this was not true - the pile was the same size. I suspect the real issue was that it was going to be a harder job because their wood chipper was broke down. I told him we agreed to $250 and I relied on that, and that I needed the bamboo removed soon because it would ruin my grass if left for much longer. He then proposed that I pay $100 more, but I refused because that amount is still too high and not what we agreed to. Really disappointed to rely on a company's word and then to be treated this way. read more
