I have to say this store has been a lifesaver for the last year. I decided to teach second grade…read moreafter being away for so long, and I needed a store like this so much. I found everything I needed and wanted, from lesson plans to games, all at a reasonable price. I must add that the staff was very instrumental in what I needed more than I did. They also suggested I get a discount card, but no need for that because teaching for me was only for one year! So I like to give them a big thank-you from all the teachers who show up, lost, after not teaching for a while!

I am grateful that Austin has their own Lakeshore Learning Store! This is THE place to go to for…read moreeducational materials, toys, and supplies store. They even have a great variety of paints, posters, games, and books too. I visited during the winter holiday and the staff was super helpful and friendly as I made my way around the store. I was offered assistance in finding the specific grade level flashcards and resources I was looking for. There is such a great diverse offerings of methods, themes, and strategies on all the things needed to help support any learner. I loved looking at every single thing in this store as I shopped. There was also great pricing and a large clearance area too worth your time to check out. I highly recommend signing up for the members free/texting offers. They always have great deals and offers. They offer discounts and freebies all the time.

You wouldn't know it, but there is a large amount of comics and comic collectibles in this store…read more I have been going here since I was in elementary school because of the cheap used books, but more recently the store opened up what I like to call 'The Geek Area' which is where you can find some of the best comics in Temple (especially since Kopriva's Collectibles closed down). They also buy used books, which is great for those of us who don't collect a large amount of books. Yes, that means I have never sold any books here, but I have bought a lot. So continue selling them books that I will eventually own. Only downside to the place is the staff. They virtually ignore you until you get up to the counter and they also don't seem to be real interested in most geek stuff or culture, which is weird considering the back room. I mean, someone had to catalog all that stuff right? There has to be a geek working there somewhere! Finally, the smell. If you're a book lover like I am, you love that old book smell (the sweet smell of vanillin). You can smell the books going down the stairs to the front door. It's like a nerd lure just pulling you down into literary heaven.

This is my FAVORITE stationary store in Austin. I happened to wander in after a central market…read moretrip. I am in love with the journal selection. I bought a Bruno Visconti journal and fell in love, came back and bought some more. Returned and they were sold out, the employee was so helpful and let me know I could put in a request for their buyer to order more. She filled out a request sheet and took my information so that they can call me when it comes in. But this is so much more than a place to buy journals. They have a huge pen selection, including some fancy ones. Their seasonal/holiday decor is always so unique and fun. They have a huge kids section and I will be popping in whenever I need a gift. AND stickers. They have a wall of a ton of stickers! They have a party section, greeting cards, gifts for adults and children, and they also make custom paper products like invitations + more. The selection is great, the prices are affordable and nothing feels overpriced, but what really sticks out here is the great staff. (I believe this is a locally owned- women owned business! More of this please!)

"This is a hug that looks a lot like a card."…read more Great cards like this are few and far between, but I find such treasures at the Paper Place more often than not. Reliably. I also find gorgeous paper goods for table settings made by Hester & Cook, journals by Leuchtturm that invite me to realize "writing by hand is thinking on paper." It is a joy to look at their gift wrapping paper, but this I eschew in favor of vintage silk and polyester scarves that I buy in lots online. This is a solid source of terrific picture frames, seasonal decorations, and amusements for kids, such as stickers and paper dolls. I don't believe I have ever walked out of the store empty-handed. Parking can be a bit of a challenge given the store proximity to Central Market.
