I give him one star because I learned that I was a bit swindled by him on treatment. Here's the story. I have bad TMJ and was desperate for a solution to my constant pain. In doing research, I came across his website and tons of advertising, web videos, testimonials, etc. He strongly hyped his qualifications and expert status on TMJ as well as hyping the NTI night guard, making it sound like it's a very new treatment he's an expert with and that he's particularly special and singular in offering it versus other dentists who just do night guards. None of what he said in that paragraph proved particularly true. Particularly, his "about me" section on his website is highly deceiving as he touts himself as some expert regarding the future of dental care, with stuff on his website talking about nano-bots, but most of this fails to amount to anything of substance in terms of care for patients. The result is that I got burned by him. After an initial consult where he echoed the many filmed testimonials from patients and his expertise with treating and fixing people's TMJ, I really came away with feeling that he possessed the answer and that his method of treating TMJ was special to him and something he was expert at among dentists. I didn't realized how much I was being over sold. In some sense, he played on my hopes. The biggest problem and complaint here was what I wound up getting charged. I feel like an idiot now that I did more research on my options after having my TMJ issues get worse and found what it should have cost, not to mention the oversell I was given. In short, he charged me $1,000 for basically molding an NTI device. I was relatively broke at the time, didn't have dental insurance, was desperate for relief, and had asked if he could work with me on price (he said he couldn't). I ended up being deceived into thinking a treatment option that is pretty widely offered, not particularly difficult to offer, and usually low cost needed to cost me $1,000 and deceived that he painted himself as a highly qualified expert in LA in treating TMJ, and I recall he specifically generalized that most dentist don't know what he knows in how to treat TMJ. I've heard on message boards it usually costs the price of the visit plus $200 for them to send away to labs to make it. Even at the highest prices I've heard people pay for it, it usually is a total of $700 max for all of it. BS aside, all I wound up actually getting was what I later found out to be an extremely boiler plate dental treatment that any dentist can provide - except some dentists see too many downsides with (which he didn't mention) - and there was nothing expert in what he did. And what is worse is that I later found out it's questionable if he even followed the manufacture's protocols: 1) He chose to mold it to lower teeth, when the manufacturer recommends the upper for when the "incisal overlap is greater than 50%" 2) The vertical dimension of the occlusion isn't supposed to increase when the jaw juts forward. 3) He made it sound as if once it's adjusted, you can't add back height to it, when that's not true. 4) The height is too high still. There's even a question after reading more literature if I was even a good candidate for the NTI because I tend to clench so much and have side to side movement. I wasn't even consulted on this possibility when speaking to him. It was all "you're perfect" for it and how great the results are. The only thing he offered was "a very small group of my patients, less than 5% report it not working," which I personally call BS on now that I know what I know and would be highly curious how he came to this figure. The result is that I gradually got more jaw pain due to the treatment I received. Now don't get me wrong, he's a very personable, nice guy. As a general dentist - teeth cleaning, etc. he probably is just fine. But he's someone who drastically over-promotes his abilities - particularly in the area of TMJ specialty. I'm very unhappy with how I felt I was over sold, deceived, and overcharged. I now know that I should have sought someone who did real imaging for jaw occlusion, but this set me back so much, it prevented that from happening sooner. What's worst, I would have sued him based on the deception, mistakes that it seems he made, and that it seemed to worsen my condition, but he is very snakey in making sure you sign off on a document saying something to the effect of "you can't sue." That should have been the biggest red flag. I am trying to move on, but I do really question Dr. Reifman's integrity and his business practices. Like I said, I'm sure for the basic teeth cleaning he's fine, but I would really question what he says, even to the point that if you were to use him as a general dentist, I would get second opinions on anything major, even fillings. read more

LOVE these people! My teeth have been so much healthier now. Whenever I come to DR. Reifman, he does a thorough job, leaving me without pain. And if anytime I do have pain, they make an appointment for me fairly quick. I like that they send me confirmation emails about my appointments, much easier to keep track of that way. Dr. Reifman gave me a very expensive experimental mouth guard that I had issues with. When I would ask him to adjust it he would go to a website and see what his colleagues had to say about it. He never refunded me any money on that expensive purchase. He also told me that I needed work on a certain issue, and when I returned a year later he did not even mention that same issue, but he jumped to new issues that he felt needed to be taken care of. I felt very swindled by him, and as a result I changed dentists. Oh, and one more thing, his office was relentless in calling me to use my benefits before the end of the year every year. Beware of Dr. Reifman. He is both an inept dentist and a fraud. He pressured me into purchasing an unnecessary and expensive dental crown which he then incorrectly placed in my mouth causing extreme pain and agony. After repeatedly assuring me both over the phone and during in person follow up visit that the pain was normal, I woke up weeks later with an enormously complicated abscess that had started in my gum tissue and worked it's way up to my lower sinus cavity. The abscess required both emergency root canal surgery and maxillofacial surgery with an oral surgeon. Dr. Reifman subsequently denied all responsibility for any issues associated with the crown. This man is a cheat, a liar and I believe that his license to practice dentistry should be permanently revoked. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Reifman and his staff by my boyfriend, who has had a ton of dental work done over the years. He said they were the best, and I am happy to report that they lived up to his hype! Some background: I hadn't been to the dentist in 3+ years, and I was pretty nervous about going - I wouldn't say that I am scared of the dentist, but I definitely do not enjoy it. Dr. Reifman's staff was so kind to me, right from the get go. I ended up needing a series of appointments - a general check up to do x-rays; a cleaning; a cavity filing; and two appointments to put in an onlay to replace a cracked filling. At each appointment, they were SO welcoming, understanding, and kind! I have a tremendous fear of needles, and this is the first time I have EVER been relatively calm when required to get a shot! Each member of the staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable! They were so patient in answering my questions and working with me to help me from being so scared. I really, really, REALLY appreciated it! Dr. Reifman also uses a fancy new kind of attachment on the drill that made it possible for me to skip the Novocaine for my filling! I was lucky enough that it was not a deep cavity - the new drill bits allow for some people to not need anesthetic with shallow cavities, and boy, was I thrilled with that. The cavity filling took a grand total of 15 minutes - it was amazing! I also have pretty bad TMJ, and once that became an issue, the staff also worked around it, helping me to use a bite block, and giving me rest breaks so my jaw would not get locked up. Overall, I'm so happy to have had a wonderful experience (or, really, wonderful series of experiences!), and I highly recommend this office to anyone - but ESPECIALLY those are are nervous about dentistry and needles. One note/suggestion: park on the street and pay the meter, but be aware of the anti-gridlock zone. The parking lot for the building is expensive, and they only take cash! Hopefully, this review helps prevent others from being swindled. Don't get me wrong, Dr. Reifman's dental services are average, but his integrity and ethical business practices, however, are lacking. My experience was awful. Prior to my appointment, Dr. Reifman's staff assured me that all the services were covered. Months later, however, I received a sizable bill in the mail. When trying to contact Dr. Reifman's office for clarification about the bill, I got the run around from Velvette, the front desk manager. She told me that I should contact my insurance company because surely it was the insurance company's mistake as insurance companies often try to mischarge their members. Basically, I ended up making a ton of phone calls to my insurance company and Dr. Reifman's office, comparing each of their different stories and facts. Throughout this process, Velvette was very unhelpful. On multiple ocassions she was cold and short on the phone, attempting to brush me off because it was close to closing time, and could not directly answer any of my questions. It came down to the fact that Dr. Reifman's office, specifically Velvette, had given me inaccurate information, quoting the wrong dates that phone calls were made and paperwork submitted. The result was that Dr. Reifman's staff took down inaccurate information when verifying my insurance benefits and incorrectly submitted paperwork/documentation to my insurance provider. Thankfully the insurance company had extensively documented notes that were automatically time stamped and dated in their computer system - no inaccuracies. Finally having figured out what had happened, I no longer felt comfortable speaking with Dr. Reifman's staff, especially after Velvette had been so rude and deceptive. I requested to speak with Dr. Reifman directly to resolve the issue. Days passed with no contact from Dr. Reifman. I called to speak with him multiple times, but still no word from him. Thinking perhaps the staff was not forwarding my messages, I wrote a letter describing the matter in detail and in good faith I enclosed a check for the amount due on my bill. I requested that he personally call me to assure me he read the letter and to discuss a resolution, prior to my check being deposited. Needless to say, I never heard from Dr. Reifman and my check was deposited just a few days after I had sent the letter. Trying to figure out the truth behind this bill took countless phone calls and multiple days - time that could have surely been spent better. Dr. Reifman and his staff surely did not value me in any way. His business practices are unethical and not a sliver of integrity was seen throughout this ordeal. If you still decide to seek out Dr. Reifman's services, ensure that all your services are officially pre-authorized through your insurance provider in order to avoid any mysterious post-service billing. read more

The epitome of a life changing fellow is dr. Edward reifman, dds. Once upon a time in a kingdome far away, lived a pretty voluptuous princess with delish blonde curly hair. Her name was cristy. Princess cristy was sad though, because her teeth were crooked like an ugly ogres...and yellow like a witches. Cristy constant sobbing and depression led to a google search for the most prominent dentist in all of the valley! Dr. Edward reifman's office she found! Encinosmiledr.com was not only a completely thorough and amazing website...but when princess cristy called....a velvety voice answered. She said her name was velvet, and she was calm, friendly, helpful and professional. Since princess cristy is bawlin' on a budget...velvet got her squared away with a medical credit account! (They even accepted her poor credit score...the one that was left to her by the evil and vicious college years) Doctor reifman, jody and daniel are all great in this office. Dr. Reifman is thorough, jody is a meticulous teeth cleaner (and she gives away free toothbrushes) and daniel, well, he is a young man with experience and perserverance not often found in a man of his young age. It took time, and patience...along with a reasonable amount of money. But guess what? Princess cristys teeth are straight! And they are no longer yellow! Dr. Reifman changed my life. His office is clean and professional without being obnoxiously pretentious. However, he uses the most up to date equipment and procedures! His heart is open. They are a great team. Princess cristy was so happy with her teeth...she has now been going to him for 6 years.... The moral of the story is...just shut up and go to dr. Reifman. Jodie, the dental hygienist, is wonderful too. She is very gentle...getting your regular cleaning never felt so good. I went to Dr. Reifman for several varied treatments and in general I'd say he is ok but when having a tooth shaved down for a crown I told him I could feel something and he told me just to hold on, he was nearly done. I don't think that's a good approach and found it traumatizing. I switched dentists shortly thereafter. His hygienist, Jodie, is the best I've experienced and wish I could continue to see her. read more

Dr. Reifman is as good as it gets. Kind, personal service from perhaps the best dentist in the LA area. He uses the latest technology and is dedicated to making dental work as painless as possible. I had to have a wisdom tooth removed and was dreading it. It was uncomplicated so Dr. Reifman said he could remove it (he has a vast amount of experience removing teeth - more than most dentists). It was so smooth and painless that i asked him when he was going to actually pull the tooth. He said he had already done it - amazing. I drive 45 minutes to see Dr. Reifman rather go to a local dentist. I can't recommend him highly enough! read more
