My experience at this office was completely unacceptable. This is the third time I've accompanied my grandmother, who suffers from severe pain, and every visit has been frustrating because of the way patients are treated at the front desk. I believe the front desk employee's name is Liz. During every visit, she has come across as dismissive, impatient, and unprofessional. She spoke to us with an attitude that made us feel like we were an inconvenience, and I witnessed her treating other patients in a similarly disrespectful manner. The front desk is the first impression of any medical office, and her behavior reflects very poorly on the practice. Patients who are already dealing with illness or pain deserve compassion and respect, not rudeness. Management should seriously address the customer service at the front desk before more patients choose to leave. had a terrible experience with Dr. Rubin. I was in and out of his office in about 3 minutes. He didn't try to help me and refused to even listen to what I had to say or look at the images and reports that I brought with me. He told me that if my previous pain management doctor couldn't help me then why would I think that he could help me. That shows lack of confidence in his abilities. He spoke to me rudely. He speaks in a monotone voice like other reviewers wrote and he did not show any care or concern for me as a patient. It was extremely difficult for me to get to his office as I am in chronic pain and had to lie in the back seat of a taxi (which was expensive) to get to his office. After a short sugical procedure on my husband....We asked for Dr. Rubin to call him , because he was still in a lot of pain. The office told me that my husband must make an appointment to speak to Dr. Rubin. That the office does not communicate with the patient over the phone. What????? Never met the doctor because the office staff is incompetent. Got an appointment two days after I called due to "a cancellation" which I was so grateful to get for my mother 86 and who was in tremendous pain . I send test reports over the next day and was happy my mom was one step closer to getting relief. When I arrive with mother in hand the young lady at the desk with the "I could care less attitude" proceeds to say "your appointment was yesterday","We can schedule you for one week later". Dr. Rubin has been my pain management doctor for almost a year now. Every time I have my appointment he makes sure to spend time with me and go over where my pain is and what he can do to make it better. He is awful! He has ZERO personality and is also quite off-putting. I had three lumbar epidurals by him and each time I had crippling leg cramps for several weeks after. When I asked him about it he ignored me and said he had never heard of that response...meanwhile it's all over the internet. Dr. Rubin is a great and caring doctor. He is patient, kind, attentive, and doesn't dismiss your symptoms (where many other doctors do). Because of his treatment plan, I am now able to be a normal and contributing member of society, rather than someone whose pain is so bad that it's the only thing I can focus on. (**Please see below, my updated review including my PRP experience*) I've been a patient of Dr. Rubin's for years to treat my lung/thoracic region and neck pain. I first started seeing him back when he was practicing in Manhattan and have continued to do so even though Garden City is a longer commute for me. Your probably wondering why do I make this commute when I could just see someone closer? The are many reasons. Dr. Rubin and his staff exhibit all the traits that you look for when picking a practice. They are friendly, courteous, efficient and trustworthy, all of which combined are a rare find in today's medical services. Making an appointment is a breeze and everyone knows me by my first name. In all of my visits I have never felt rushed, or mistreated. Sometimes they run late in seeing patients but that happens no matter where I've gone. But the most important reason I continue seeing Dr. Rubin is that he has brought my chronic pain to a level that has given me back a quality of life that I didn't think would be possible before I started treatment with him. I also want to add that I have read the other reviews to date and they are pretty spot on, with the exception of J.W's. I find J.W's review to be very out of the norm. I've experienced 2 billing mistakes myself and both were handled promptly, courteously, and without any other problems. In conclusion, I will continue commuting to see Dr. Rubin and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his services! ***UPDATE*** *FOR ANYONE SEEKING PRP* - This detailed review is based on my experience receiving the Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP). My treatment was performed by Dr. Edward Rubin at his Lake Success location. - http://www.selectpainconsultants.com/ The entire procedure was fairly quick, about 30 mins total. Dr. Rubin led me into an exam/procedure room and he started by withdrawing 30cc's of blood from my arm, with a larger needle than what's been used during my previous blood draws. There was a bit more pain than usual with this needle, but I was told that this larger needle is needed to prevent your blood from clotting during removal. He placed the blood into a machine that spins, separating the plasma. Lastly, he takes only the plasma and injects it into the injured site. The plasma injection takes about 30 secs. Ultrasound guidance was not needed for my injection site, but Dr. Rubin does normally perform PRP with ultrasound. In terms of pain during the procedure and recovery, it largely depends on the injection location and your personal pain tolerance. I was injected in the back of my neck, a painful location for any injection. I have various problems with multiple discs in my cervical spine, as well as a severe stenosis. In the past, I've received steroid/lidocaine trigger point injections in the same spot. The plasma shot was definitely more painful, especially since it lacks Lidocaine. I'd personally rate the injection as a 7 out of 10 pain score. The plasma stings while it's being injected and the initial injection pain lasted for a good 20 minutes, which I had to wait out before leaving. The most painful part of of my recovery was the first 5-6 days. I was extremely sore and suffered from severe headaches.I canceled travel plans I'd made for the second day after the procedure (not smart in hindsight). I wouldn't recommend any strenuous physical activity in the days following the procedure. Dr. Rubin recommended icing the injection site, that did help a lot. Everyone's recovery time/pain is different. I've been told it may take up to 3 treatments and several weeks after each to feel the effects, so this is by no means a quick fix. I know it will take more treatments to make a real difference in my level of severe pain. A few other things to be aware of with PRP treatment. You can't receive PRP if you have an infection, and you'll also have to stop taking any anti-inflammatory meds or blood thinners 24 hours prior to the appointment. The cost of my procedure was $700 and wasn't covered by my insurance. Do I recommend it? Absolutely, but only with a qualified specialist that you trust; one that is familiar with/specializes in pain disorders and their treatment options, does daily injections, and performs PRP with imaging if needed. I would trust no one else with my pain management than Dr. Rubin and his main staff: Jennifer, Nichole, Cathy, George, and Justine. In my years of being their patient, they have always treated me with the special care, kindness, and respect that a person in my health situation requires. These days it can be very difficult to find doctors' offices who will devote even the minimum amount of time to you, this is why I recommend Dr. Rubin and his team wholeheartedly. read more

Rubin's recent reply to my review is untrue in all aspects. The mistake was not made by the insurance company, it was made by his multiple billing offices, who do not know how to communicate properly with one another. The insurance company is the one who caught the mistake and fixed it, not Rubin's people. I never cashed any check, they did; and it took my repeated harassment of their office staff to get the double payment returned. And five months after resolving the issue with my insurance company, I got ANOTHER two bills from them just last month. They claim it is a computer glitch; but if I had simply paid them without questioning it, then they would have received fraudulent extra payments. Lastly, the relief to my back pain due to Dr. Rubin's procedures was completely temporary. He has no idea what my situation is today, because I have never gone back to him after this billing nightmare. read more

Even though I was given an appointment with Dr Rubin 3 weeks from today, the office told me they no longer accept my insurance (Emblem HIP). However, Dr Rubin is still listed as an active provider. The insurance company called the office while I was on hold with them and the office LIED to the insurance company and told them that the Dr was all booked. Dr Rubin's office VIOLATED the terms of their provider agreement with the insurance company by refusing to accept me as a patient because of my insurance even though they are an authorized provider. My Winthrop Rheumatologist - who accepts my insurance - referred me to this Winthrop Dr - who REFUSED my insurance even though he is a provider. I have no respect or confidence in any medical provider who allows this and runs their medical practice like this - especially under the "Winthrop" name - Winthrop Pain Management". I would never go to this Dr and expect quality care when his staff conducts themselves in this manner and is allowed to continue to do so. I am so looking forward to Dr Rubin's reply to this post. This was not a mistake by your staff. I called twice and was told twice that my insurance is no longer taken. And, your staff told the Emblem representative a totally different story to cover themselves - all of it LIES. There is no excuse or explanation. Are you being investigated for Medicaid FRAUD? My elderly father has been Dr. Rubin's patient for approximately 6 years. I don't know where my father would be without him. No physician has ever had the ability to relieve my father's severe, chronic, and debilitating lumbar back pain. Dr. Rubin has done many procedures over the years. They have all been successful, unfortunately because of my dad's chronic condition, the pain returns. Dr. Rubin has never given up on him. We are able to get an appointment within a reasonable amount of time. Dr. Rubin is a very busy man. If Dr. Rubin cannot see my father, one of his Physician Assistants will see him, and Dr. Rubin is in the office and available if needed. It is a very smooth and efficient running office. We have never had to wait more than 20-30 minutes max. I believe that is also reasonable. Everyone is professional, busy, and yet friendly. Dr. Rubin is a very professional, caring, compassionate physician. He gets to the point of what is happening, listens most attentively, as do his PA's, and makes a plan. He will not give up on you. Extremely disappointed with Dr. Rubin in Garden City office. My husband is a senior citizen with chronic pain due to spinal stenoses. The only relief he can get is from meds so we depended on Dr. Rubin to guide us. My husband has been his patient for several months. We had a much needed appointment with Dr. Rubin which was confirmed during the week prior. Now that very day we call the office to confirm that the doctor will be in and it was confirmed. We get to the office and my husband has to fill out the required paperwork and then we wait for about 30 minutes. Finally he is called to be told that the doctor left 2 hours ago, without any explanation!!!!! Needless to say we were shocked!!! Of course my husband wanted to understand all of this and so the receptionist who didn't want to explain anything called my husband "nasty" and "rude". My husband had to speak to the doctor about his meds so he asked that the doctor call him at his convenience. The doctor never called. My husband left two messages again after that day, on two separate occasions and the doctor NEVER, NEVER tried to contact us. NEED I SAY MORE ABOUT THIS DOCTOR AND HIS OFFICE???? I started Seeing Dr. Rubin in April of 2013. He was recommended by Endocrinologist specialist based with Winthrop University Hospital. I have had undergone surgeries from him and Him and His staff are nothing but amazing! Finally, after my recent surgery that actually took place a day after my Grandmother past away! My Lumbar has been doing great! He and his staff are very polite, I never wait longer than 15 minutes to see him, Never rushed in or out like cattle, and always takes my questions and concerns very serious. I even was called after the last surgery not only to see how I was feeling (of course, in pain at that time), but the staff and him also were so kind enough to send their condolences as they remembered me saying my grandmother passed away that night before. I Highly recommend seeing Dr. Rubin, He has brought nothing but a better quality of life into me. Also, I wanted to mention; my company was recently taken over by another company and my insurance had changed July of 2013 and he had no problems with seeing me at any of his locations.
