Purchase a $5,000 tax preparer bond from an insurance/surety agent. Obtain a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Register and submit the $33 registration fee online. Yes, absolutely we wanted to check our tax returns. I'm skeptical that anyone can do a complete stranger's taxes accurately in a one hour consult, and I need to be comfortable with the work before I trust someone with something as important as this. As it turns out, Mr Edwards did not fill out Form 8949 for Schedule D capital gains and loss transactions resulting in about ~$900 in additional tax owed. Maybe an honest mistake, but I'm glad we checked. Rest assured that I did not submit my taxes with your name on them. I don't know why you would even suggest that. Your integrity is called into question when you charge more than the initial estimate. Sure we asked a few questions, but we were looking to understand to make sure our taxes were done right and to assure ourselves we were in good hands. I still don't understand why this is a problem. I would have gladly paid your estimated fee for the hour of your time if you had just answered questions. Clearly there was a misunderstanding regarding the "free consultation" (which is still advertised on your website by the way). I wouldn't have felt the need to go on yelp to review your business if you hadn't jacked up the price by $50 on the spot. I'm sure your business will do fine without me, but I hope you spend more time and care on other client's taxes than you did on mine. There are other companies out there that will spend more than an hour with you to make sure you get every penny out of your returns. read more

I had been going for about three years and I and my mom both really liked Doug Edwards. The 2017 tax year that changed. I had a few questions, which had been answered in due time, however, one question I asked in a few of these emails was why did my mom's annual rate go up so much. Doug never answered that question, instead he acted very unprofessional and unethical in cancelling our appointment the day of the appointment because he didn't feel the need to answer that question. It wasn't an unrealistic question to ask. In fact anyone in business should expect to answer that question when asked. He tends to be a little greedy on the hikes he gives each year as a fee that he charges. I found a very respectful and very reasonable business and we're very happy with them. Just filed my taxes yesterday with Douglas and couldn't have had a better experience. I called on Wednesday and he was able to schedule an appointment for Friday morning. I actually forgot my paperwork and had to drive home and get it. I was only five minutes away but Douglas was very understanding. My taxes were fairly simple and took only about 30 minutes! He was able to fit us in to his busy schedule (and mine) within a few days of calling his company. Being new to the area, I had a VERY difficult return. I had taken a lump sum from my retirement account (before retirement age), I had retired from one job and started another, I moved from one state to California, I sold a house, and bought another, I have an office deduction, two state returns, a local return, etc. My point is after doing my own taxes for years, there comes a time to admit defeat and have a professional take care of it.
