Worst hair cut I have EVER gotten. I showed him a picture of the cut I wanted and told him that I have shrinkage because my hair is curly and he gave me horrible layers and a ugly shape I did not want. Do not recommend if you have curly hair from 2B - 4C. My hair is growing out but I am very upset about my cut and it did not match the picture i showed him at ALL. Once again do not recommend. I've never met a hair stylist who puts so much passion into cutting hair. The first thing Edwin asked me was, "Do you have an idea for your haircut or would you like suggestions?" Throughout the process, he would tell me step-by-step what he was doing and every now and then we would collaborate on ideas for my haircut. All in all, I'm super satisfied with the final product! The reasons I gave this salon 4 stars is because 1) the price - but you can have one of his employees (as opposed to Edwin himself) cut your hair for half the price & 2) the prices are going up $5 sometime soon. This is my go-to salon anytime I need a change to my hair. It's the closest thing to a celebrity stylist in the Woodbridge/Dumfries area. Here's why: The salon is run by a dynamic duo husband/wife team. Anyone who is or has been married knows it takes a special kind of person to work with your spouse. I'm sure it is a challenge for them but those challenges are the very impetus to the production of high quality output. The salon is run like a well-oiled machine. They are constantly in communication with one another, which produces great organization and warm/courteous customer service. It's not a high traffic salon so you will be one of three people there at most, which is great because that allows them to really spend time on you and pay attention to details. They've been practicing hair for over 30 years so aside from the business aspect, they are extremely talented at what they do. Grace, the wife specializes in hair color and style. I've done color and highlights and she is phenomenal. My hair color always looks prettier than I expected it to. She also blow dries and flat irons with detail and precision. Plus, she is generally very sweet, calm and service-oriented. Edwin, the husband, should be named "Edwin Scissor Hands" because he cuts and styles hair with his heart and soul like a true artist. It's clear that for him, this is not just a job; this is his life's work. Just bring a picture of what you want and he will nail it. I walked in. The place was empty. Only Edwin, his wife, and another employee/helper was there. Edwin's wife took me to the back to get my hair washed. There was small talk. After the wash, I sit in the chair and they start working on my hair. Yes, they. Two people working on my hair at the same time. I hate that. Anyway, I told them I want a lot of volume because my hair is fine as it is. Well, they left my hair completely flat and dull looking. I was very disappointed. After they finished blow drying my hair, I noticed my ends looked terrible so I decided to let Edwin trim/cut my hair. He's the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. He was very pleasant and we had a nice conversation and he took his time with the cut. He really knew what he was doing. But after all is said and done, I do not plan on returning. read more

I definitely would recommend this place. In my opinion, this is one of the best hair salons I have been to. I have gone to many in the northern virginia area, and this is by far my favorite. Edwin trimmed my hair, as well as added layers. He explained every step of the haircut as well as his own opinion on what would/would not look good. I had terrible highlights done from a previous hair salon, which he thankfully fixed with toner to a very flattering color. I have crazy unruly curly/frizzy hair. I loved how they both paid attention to me and listen to what I wanted and let me know what was doable with my hair, since it was black. Horrible!! Needed a TRIM and color, the color is what I needed most though and time was of an essence as I only had one afternoon off work last week and had an important meeting the next day. The salon was empty with EDWIN and one female that washed hair (should have told me something right there) everything seemed ok until edwin kept showing me a bright red and then dark brown color to put in my hair, I kept saying I just wanted a shade darker to cover grey no chunks of different color, just something subtle to low light or even a all over semi. NOO he kept cutting the hair (which is normally done AFTER a color) and then said I can no do color, I no understand wat ju want (seriously?? He doesn't understand) I was so angry! I told him he shouldn't have cut my hair (trim $50!!!! I have short hair) when he had no intentions of coloring my hair! Now I have to find someone else and pay them again and I lost an hour! I moved to Woodbridge area from New England 2 years ago and have tried about 6 different salons in an attempt to find a hair dresser that even remotely comes close to the one I was with for 15 years in Boston. The salons I tried were in Baltimore, Stafford, Fredericksburg all of which were either too expensive, not getting what I want, or quickly fading color. As a result, I decided to do some of my own research before trying another salon. Hence, coming across Edwin's Hairstyles. The online reviews were high and it was close so I figured I'd try it. The shop is conveniently located on Route 1 across from Taco Bell, run by Edwin and his wife. The salon does not have the high class look of most salons but I assure you, the quality of customer service, cuts and cost are phenominal. Edwin and his wife take the time to get to know you and what you're looking for and ask you to clrify if they don't understand to ensure there's no misunderstanding (they moved to the US 9 yrs ago). I have short hair and find it difficult to find someone who can cut it right, so I was elated to see Edwin use the same types of cutting techniques that my hairdresser from Boston used. I stopped into Edwin's Hairsalon on a Thursday afternoon. I discussed I had my hair cut 5 years back by Edwin and I moved back to the area and stopped in to try the salon again. Edwin's wife discussed highlight prices with me and price for hair cut $35, after her break she came to discuss price she misquoted me, it was written on their price sheet. Foil for long length partial would cost $15 more on the original $89, I went forward with the foil highlights. Edwin's wife did a Wonderful color, even though she needed to tone the blond abit, it came out pretty. After I was ready for my haircut, I informed Edwin I wanted long layers. Both Edwin and his wife blowed dried my hair at the same time one in each side. Edwin proceeded to cut my hair while dry, I spoke up asking why he was cutting it dry, he did explain that you can see the hair lines better and it's healthier to cut dry. That was my first time getting cut when my hair was dry. After the cut that was it. With My hair straight, I ask if Edwin if he was going to blow dry it using a brush to give it more volumn, but he statedbthat would be another $30. I think that is a lot at $65. I will not get my haircut with that price again. I will get my hilights dig again read more

I had been going to one of those large volume salons and one day my stylist quit. I was handed off to another stylist and was told that she had all the notes of what we were doing with my hair. I gave her 2 tries. The second time i walked out with 1/4" of color around my face i knew i had to find someone else. Thank the Gods for Edwin and Grace! Grace quickly helped me pick out a color and suggested to gradually tone it down instead of all at once. She did such a good job that i fell in love with my new color. Then it was on to Edwin. He asked all the right questions. What i liked about my cut what i did not. When i told him i had limited shoulder movement and trying to dry and curl my hair was getting too complicated he made some suggestions. I ended up with a cute bob, the front longer than the back where it is easier for me to reach. The length is perfect, even on those days i don't feel like blow-drying it my hair is cut in such a way that it has a slight curl. I paid less than 150.00 for a cut and color, my brows waxed a keratin treatment and shampoo. Great price and a wonderful couple! read more
