I'm giving EF Go Ahead Tours 5 stars because they delivered on every promise during my recent Highlights of Scotland and England trip. They arranged the flights...and, although I would have preferred less connection time on the return trip (it was 5 hours in Philadelphia), all flights were on a major airline (American) and on time...from my home airport of Manchester, NH to my destination of Edinburgh...and then from London back to Manchester NH when I returned home. The hotels were mostly Holiday Inn Express (which were satisfactory and clean, with adequate breakfasts) throughout Scotland and England, until we got to London, when we stayed at a lovely, more upscale hotel (the Danubius Regent's Park where the breakfasts were exceptional). On most days, there were excursions/guided tours of one sort or another...as well as opportunities to prebook additional tours/excursions, which I did. The drive along Coastal Scotland was wonderful, as was the tour at Windsor Castle and the high tea at Jane Austen's house in Bath. In addition to all breakfasts, several dinners were included in the tour price. I'd taken a Road Scholar trip to Costa Rica last year where ALL meals were included each day...and I felt that having to be with the group for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day was a bit much and a bit restricting...which is why I opted for the EF Tour which allowed for more free time...and personal choices. The bus travel from city to city was extremely comfortable...and both our fearless leader, Kurt Hoffmann...and the various bus drivers, including the wonderfully patient Allen, always made sure to schedule rest stops along the way. And speaking of Kurt...his constant attention to detail, upbeat personality, and knowledgeable grasp of the areas we traveled through...all helped contribute to the high level of satisfaction and enjoyment each day. I believe he made each person on the tour feel their needs and wants were important to him...and he was always ready to listen and make things happen to ensure smiles on the faces of everyone in the group. My husband and I took the worst overpriced guided tour to France with EF Go Ahead Tours March28-April4, 2026.The worst hotels in the worst part of the cities. Dirty hotels with broken beds, two were under construction or repair with noise and dust, they were far from fun places and tourist areas. Restaurants picked for us offered the worst of French Food! Terrible hospital or nursing home type food with mostly only one option! No coffee or tea at the end of the dinner ! No museums or entertainment or fun was planned for us.The extra excursions were a lot more expensive through them than what we could buy there.No plans for people in the tour if you don't pay extra for excursions! I absolutely do not recommend this company! Due to this company's negligence we were attacked and pick pocketed as soon as we arrived to Nice from airport to hotel . She went above and beyond on numerous occasions for many of us. They did everything from booking flights, hotels, restaurants, transfers. Having taken over 50 tours and 4 with EF Go Ahead Tours, I am a fairly experienced traveler. I do not recommend them albeit they have many repeat customers. Aside from interesting locations, overall very good tour guides, and clean, easy transportation, EF Go Ahead is a difficult company to do business with. Their itineraries are flawed and the new ones usually very poorly vetted with wasted time and inconsistent, poor services. If you're older or frail, their advance recommendations may concern you on these virgin tours. Their established tours work much better. Beware ahead of time their inflexible refund policy. Read and understand them. While their marketing and website is impressive, their customer service reliability is poor--call backs rarely done as promised, Their emergency care support was good. They refuse to provide email addresses so they are harder to communicate with. Hosted meals are poor to average at best; optional ones much betters. Hotels are generally acceptable, but on any one trip we've had, one or two are substandard. On occasions, we've had time-consuming detours to local gift shops. They don't disclose details of internal trip air transfers. Instead of a 45-minute trip from Sicily to Malta, we had a 2 a.m. wake up and a flight to Munich, Germany and then another multi-hour one back to Malta with the day before and after basically ruined. We would have skipped this trip if we had known, but their website indicated a direct flight. They don't disclose wake-up times. For our last trip, we had two that required 2 a.m. Check the itinerary carefully, some sites may actually be drive-by's going 15 mph. and hoping you're on the correct side of the bus. In Florence, we were unable to enter any of the promised elite museums. Avoid their Flight Booking at all costs. You lose your ability to choose seats until late when the better ones have been taken. Cancellation of flights are not sent to the person of contact. (At the last minute, we very nearly missed our last trip!) You often have trouble securing your boarding passes ahead of the airport, and repeatedly it took us several stops with the airlines within the airport to secure our boarding passes. Booking directly with the airlines may save you more than $1,000 over their prices. If you're looking at a tour with them, I strongly recommend you choose a small group of no more than 24, make your airline reservations directly with the airline (and hope they don't cancel your trip), and carefully check the schedule to see if the packing and unpacking fit you. From everything I've been able to glean, this is headquarters-driven company with profit valued more than service. Everyone of the four tour directors we've had in so many words conveyed that their feedback did not count for much. Better management could turn things around. For ease of planning, transportation, and parking as well as sampling a new area, EF Go Ahead Tours may be your cup of tea, but you should be flexible and not have high expectations. Took Ireland tour in 2022 and still tell friends looking to travel to avoid this company at all costs. Our trip was memorable for: 1. complete lack of covid protocols despite requiring photographs of negative covid test results in advance- (disingenuous at best) which they never looked at ( a guest left tour on second day due to covid); 2. poor seats on Aer Lingus ( AVOID) that cost us $200 extra to change; 3. 1-2 star accommodations in isolated (so we were confined to our hotel, walk, or pay a cab for an 8 mi trip to city center) or sketchy locations ( homeless, public intoxication, inappropriate behavior, fights ( see #5 below); 4. being herded like sheep into hotel dining rooms only to be presented with poor food (just use your imagination); 5. indiscriminate stops where you were dropped off (causing 3 senior citizen tour members to walk back to hotel 2 miles away) if you weren't into going to a majority-rules impromptu site ( pub, bar, distillery), and 6. an EXTRA ( paid outside tour price) excursion for a Pub Night With Traditional Irish Food and Music that was so bad even our tour guide told us not to hold back when complaining to EF Tours! The 'pub' was a banquet room with dirty, sticky, banquet tables, the food was "slop" as one guest described it, and the music was Danny Boy performed by two out of tune 'singers' from Massachusetts. We were rushed out thankfully to make room for a kids soccer team!!! This was the last event on the tour and it spoke volumes for what EFGAT thought of us. When I returned, I contacted the company for a refund of the $200 I spent on the Pub Night fiasco and was told it would be credited to my next trip! AS IF THAT would EVER happen!!! I responded by telling the man who responded that was fine because i would talk down this company and if I could persuade even one person to go elsewhere, it would be money well lost. To date, I have personally convinced 4 couples to find another company! You are very welcome, EFGAT!!! read more

Don't be fooled that this is a good trip for solo travelers. It's a lonely way to go. The "solo" travelers we have on our trip all traveled together. I'm a party of one and am hoping I get hurt and can go home early under my travel insurance. I'm currently in Greece and am counting the days until this is over. Just want to add, that I have traveled with them before and had excellent experience, (10 years ago) and so had no qualms about working with them again.... However...... First chat about a trip was positive and encouraging. After that, there was an email to connect with a "consultant." Which I did, but she never responded until after I complained, and then offered the explanation that "Tour Consultants take time off, and some work part-time, so do not rely on email responses." I did call and chat with others. However.... Communication with this agency was questionable, even before our trip ever departed. Seems like they are all over the place, worried about their own situations, and don't really care at all about their customers. Some work part time... blah blah blah... So do I want to trust my travel plans to someone who is just working a side gig? Doubtful we will go with these people... Pre-tour communication and professionalism was sub par at best. .. 1. Some emails were never answered, and then others took 3 days to a week. 2. They told us we would receive a surprise in the mail 2 months before the trip - we never received it. 3. When we booked the tour, we asked about some local activities like hot springs, and they told us we would have a pre-group meeting with the tour director so we could ask these kinds of questions. That never happened. 4. We were told that if we booked our flights through them, they would pick us up from the airport. During the same call (when booking the initial tour), we requested to arrive 2 days early. Before the trip, I thought to check on our airport pickup, THEY DON'T do airport pickups if you arrive early. That definitely should have been mentioned on the call!! Booked an Italy tour a year ahead with a credit card. EZ Tour notified everyone three days after the final payment date that this was "Jubilee Year" for the Catholic Church and we may not get to do everything that was planned due to the crowds. The Vatican, Sistine Chapel ( basically all chapels with holy doors), the Coliseum, Pompeii and the Catacombs would not be able to be seen. This is what most people go to see and readings news reports of the Jubilee, we found it draws an extra 700,,000 people per week over the normal 34 million in a year! We had tried to talk ourselves into going still but when we read that we knew we had to cancel. Called and was fairly easy to cancel because since the final payment date was passed, we both forfeited $350 and both of our insurance plans were forfeited at around $500 each. So around $1700 lost but okay, that's what we had to do. They were supposed to refund me the balance to the card originally used which was okay. I waited several weeks before emailing and they told me the card I booked the tour with had expired so they couldn't process the refund and would be writing a check to me a week from that day. Mind you, they tried to process the card refund 20 DAYS before I contacted them and they never tried to call, text or email to update the card. Since they hadn't even written the check until I contacted them, it appears they will hold your money until you demand it back. Received the check today 30 days after they first found out my card was expired and 70 days after I cancelled. I had heard good things about this company but the seemingly underhanded way of updating us after the final payment date and the what appear to be intentional slow repayment after getting $1,700 for paperwork confirms I will never use them again. read more

We were warned about using EF to book our travel (see other reviews) so thankfully we booked our own. Others in our group were not so fortunate. Check other reviews...... Arnold, the Tour Director, while extremely knowledgeable, was very rigid. He didn't care to discuss cultural differences ( homosexuality or the role of women in Tanzanian society) and tried to omit our drive to see The Great Migration because "the roads were too muddy". Only after he was reminded by the guides and several of the people on the trip that it was a part of the paid itinerary did we get to see the amazing Migration. We also had to cut short/rearrange one day to "meet the delivery person" who Arnold dispatched to pick up luggage that didn't arrive on time because of EF scheduled such poor travel plans for those who used their services. Andrew, our guide was amazing...knowledgeable, kind, humble and thought provoking. He had a way of explaining the terrain and animal behavior that made the trip so memorable and offset my negative opinion about the Director. Andrew's favorite comment was "take that picture in your brain". He knew where to find hidden animals and often stopped our van to listen to the sound of the wild. I booked the London, Paris Rome tour in November 2025. This tour is very overpriced. There is a lot of "Free time" on this tour. The hotels were changed after booking. This information was provided in the tour description, but the substitutions were not comparable to the advertised hotels. The hotel locations left a lot to be desired. One location seemed to be in a residential area. The breakfast at two of the three hotels was horrible. After two of the three provided tours we were "dropped off" and had to get back to the hotel (or other destinations) on our own. I travel solo and I usually feel safe traveling in a group, however I felt very unsafe during this tour. From my view, our tour director was incompetent and uncompassionate. read more

Japan tour included numerous local guides. Three of them disappeared after providing limited information most of which too hard to understand because of heavy accent. Hotel in Tokyo was in an industrial area. We were offered one piece of nigiri sushi in 10 days and to top it off, another passenger repeatedlyn kicked me, hit me, and pushed me and others. EF was contacted during the tour about this and blew me off completely. They seek to block my comments in social media after choosing to basically rob me. They have offered no compensation and as such they provide themselves the carte blanche to repeat this experience elsewhere. Imagine how that works if their guide leaves me in the middle of an Africa wildlife range. Oh, I found out when I arrived in Japan that I can't get ride to thehotel because I had to book air travel with them which is 50 percent higher than market. I then spent hours trying to find hotel but at least i got to see some of tokyo because the tour only provides limited access to it. THe tour participants are holed up outside city in a lifeless hotel. read more

Overall, the tour guides complete lack of expertise, and the varying quality of accommodations and meals did not meet the standards we were led to expect given the description and price we paid. I booked this tour based on the reviews but did not enjoy the overall experience compared to other tours I've taken. Please take this as a sign to use a different tour company. I would highly recommend Collette if you need one. I contacted customer service and requested compensation for the bad experience and was only offered a $200 credit to take another tour with them. We've done 4 tours with this company, the last one completed just last week. The tours themselves were outstanding, with great Tour Directors and wonderful local experts. However, their customer service team in Cambridge is horrible. They made mistakes on all four of our trips (most of them related to pre-tour hotels), but the last one was the worst. They cancelled my hotel and switched the reservation to another one and never informed me. After flying over 15 hours with a 9 hour time zone change and in a foreign country, this wasn't fun. Did they fix the problem, take full responsibility and compensate us for their mistake? No, no and no. They only offered a credit for a future trip that didn't come close to covering the expenses we incurred when fixing this on our own. When I reminded them that I've done 4 trips already and have a 5th booked for next year and, am currently shopping for several more tours for 2026, they didn't care. Incredible. If I could cancel my next trip I would, but the cancellation penalties are too high. Needless to say, I am now shopping elsewhere for my future trips. UPDATE: 11-5-25 the company reached today out and offered full compensation, so in all fairness I am editing this post. read more

This company will take your money regardless of who cancels tour. In our case, the company 'postponed' the tour to avoid giving refunds. We had and have no desire to take a different tour and that was the only remedy they would offer. So, stealing is okay with this company. Just beware. If you think there is no way a company will cancel your tour and not refund your money understand this company will do exactly that. Strongly advise you consider another company. read more

Excellent tour directors and well-planned international itineraries. Completed my 9th tour with them.

There were fellow travelers who verbally harassed solo travelers (including directing profanity and making inappropriate sexual comments). The company did not hold travelers accountable for their harassing behavior and let it continue. Tour Directors were tasked with cracking down on it but were actually unwilling to get involved- they appeared to care more about getting bigger tips from 2 people together on the tour. The tour was well organized and an interesting cultural/educational experience- I want give credit here. But EF Go Ahead Tours needs to do a better job of protecting the social-emotional well-being of all of its travelers. It was a highly disappointing and even somewhat disturbing experience. read more

EF Go Ahead Tours is by far the most unethical company I have ever done business with. Not just travel companies... I mean all companies. While I could write a book about the terrible service I received, I will sum it up by saying the company made huge changes to the trip itinerary but did not disclose those changes until I was past the full-refund cancellation window. I ended up eating thousands of dollars because they would give me only a 50% refund. Believe it or not, the trip itinerary I signed up for remained unchanged on their website up until the day of departure! The actual itinerary was vastly different (as in much worse) so I decided not to go. If you are thinking of taking a trip with Go Ahead Tours, my advice is "Go Ahead, and you will regret it big time". p.s. Have not gone on the tour yet. This review is about their customer service. I booked a tour to Germany for September with an extension to Vienna. I booked my airfare on my own after making the reservation. I recently received an email canceling the extension due to low participation. I called and requested that since I already have my airfare, that the company get me to Vienna. They declined but offered to pay for an excursion. I usually travel with Gate 1/Discovery Tours and when they had to make a change to my reservation, they made paid for my hotel since I had to arrive early. I made a reservation last Thursday (11/16/2023) for a trip to Iceland from 12/02/2023-12/07/2023 and then I was told that I can't have my refund back. This entire situation has been a massive chaos. When I called on last Thursday (11/16/2023) to place my reservation, the agent (Kathy) I talked to stressed about she "cannot" guarantee that I will be able to go on the trip. Before I provided the payment information, I specifically asked if I will be able to get the refund because the trip is coming up so soon. The agent ensured that I will be able to get a full refund back within 60 days if I decided to cancel the trip. I was also told that I am basically on a wait list and someone will contact me once I can go on the trip. No one contacted me about whether the agency was able to process my information at all, so I've been left in the dark about this trip since the beginning. I called the help line this morning (11/20/2023) around 9:00 Eastern Standard Time to cancel my reservation. I was informed by the agent that I will not be able to get my full refund back since it's too close to the trip date. Basically I was told that Kathy gave me the wrong information, so I will have to pay the cancellation fee. The only reason I provided my payment information is because Kathy specifically stated that I will be able to cancel the trip and receive a full refund. I've never been so frustrated with a traveling agency. I made sure to ask this agent regarding the refund policy twice before giving her my payment information, and she still couldn't provide me with the correct information. It's unbelievable that such a big traveling agency cannot uniformly train their employees with the correct set of information. read more

I have yet to leave on this trip to New England, but thus far the customer service has been DISMAL at best. They have every device to discourage you from talking to an actual person. Additionally, be warned: there is a lot of FALSE ADVERTISING. Website indicates first two nights a hotel in Burlington, walking distance to many things, or close to public transportation. So, we booked a pre-stay for two nights in Burlington, Before we booked the extra nights, I was told by rep the hotel would be 'Delta Marriott in Burlington'. When the actual hotels were sent, I see we are at Hampton Inn in Colchester. Well this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, not walkable to anything, 30 minutes drive to Burlington. Their front desk informed me we 'really will need a car to go anywhere' (except Starbucks and Costco across the street). I have been on the line now 43 minutes as I type this to 'tour support' line. The rep when she finally came on tells me there is NO REFUND for the pre-stay hotel payment. It is 'close to public transportation.' Turns out she is referring to the Colchester bus station -- 13 minutes away!! Clearly, reputation and customer service are not important to this company. I will never book with them again. read more

I did italy - venice, florence, rome and sorrento. Great group of people. On the go from 8 am on. Each day packed with wonderful guided tours, as well as, time to explore. By-pass lines. Catacombs, pompeii, Vatican, etc. Every sight you could hope to see. My only "complaint" would be with the inconsistent quality of the hotels. some were top notch, some not so much. read more

Without going into detail I feel I was scammed out of about $700 from EF Go Ahead Tours. After many conversations I was told I did not cancel a particular tour, which I did. I had multiple conversations and exchange of emails which I considered were mostly confrontational, particularly on the part of Rosa. It got to the point that it was too stressful. I felt bullied and threatened. They wanted me to give them $1300 more dollars to rebook. I subsequently decided the stress was not worth it and chose to lose all my money that deal with them further. It appears to be mostly a money-making issue for them . I see all the good reviews that refer to the actual tour itself but the planning process felt more like being bullied. Never again! Moral of the story: If you can have control of your travel plans and truly want to be solo, then you don't need a tour company such as this. It is mostly a money -making venue for them. read more

There's a syndicated crime organizations that are well-financed, with high-end cabs, well dressed cab drivers and state of the art electronics. Beware of any cab drivers saying they only take credit cards and not cash. It's a scam that EF go ahead tours may be involved in.. They recommend using the cab system. Only pay cash never debit. EF Go Ahead Tours does not warn you about these scams because they may be in on it . read more

Review for England Ireland Scotland tour....Rae Webster was undoubtedly the best tour guide ever! Helpful, knowledgeable and just plain sweet. England, Ireland and Scotland were each beautiful and interesting in their own way. But the amount of bus time was unforgivable. And as for the buses provided by Manning- none had WiFi...in 2023! Really EF tours? And one bus had no working bathroom, which resulted in a very unfortunate and embarrassing incident for a gentleman on board. I have previously travelled with Go Ahead but I am not sure about future trips. read more

To say Go Ahead is not transparent is an understatement regarding how hard earned money is taken from hard working families such as ours. We decided to use Go Ahead for our 2026 Japan Trip. However, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to cancel our Trip. When initially booked in April of 2025, we were advised to take the higher level of Insurance which was $899 and our Family could cancel for any reason. Sounded great, as We could get our money refunded in case of our situation above for canceling. However, Go Ahead told us we would get only Vouchers totaling $450 and receive $0 dollars back as part of the Insurance we purchased. So basically ,we were punished for purchasing the Insurance and received less than what the actual purchase price of the Insurance was. Of course I explained we will be unable to utilize the Vouchers within a years time as our situation will remain the same. Well unfortunately then they make more money off Us from our unused vouchers and keep the money we already put down. We do not Recommend Go Ahead to anyone as they are not transparent and the above was not throughly explained to Us. As a hard working family in retrospect we would have never booked the Trip knowing we would lose our almost $5,000!! This money is something we can't get back. Myself and my husband have had recent health issues and are Elderly. As seasoned travelers our family has never experienced this type of deceit while using other companies such as Gate 1 or NCL etc. I hope this helps others not to utilize Go Ahead Tours. read more

I took the tour of Egypt with the extension to Jordan. We had a wonderful time! Considering that almost everything was included, I thought their prices were fair. Our tour guides, the hotels, the Nile cruise, and the security were excellent. There were maybe two lunches that were obviously meant for bus groups that weren't so great, but the rest of the food was amazing. I plan to travel with EF/Go Ahead Tours again! read more

I will never use EF ever again. Tip Tip should be included in the overall price of the tour not insisting on tipping an specific price. The hassle of getting cash from ATM that charges an exorbitant fees on top. Leaving our baggage outside our room for a porter is not secure. I would rather carry own baggage down stars. And then having to tip also. Hotels Hotels were disappointing. Athens hotel was far from center in a less desirable area. Much grafiti and homeless population. Not safe to walk in the area. Double rooms for couples should not be two twin beds pushed together. Another hotel had a horrible smell in the bathroom. For the amount we payed for the Tour, better accommodations should be provided. If a hotel was booked outside of city center the hotels should have a shuttle. Ferry Ferry to Mykonos was scheduled too early for those on vacation. And then not be able to check in at our hotel. Tour director Tour director was too pushy and walked too fast for many people. Especially older people. Was treating to leave people behind if couldn't keep up. In fact, one person was left at the airport because they got separated. Extra tours Those who booked extra excursions were told only when we arrived that the tours were cancelled. Another tour on Santorini we couldn't book through EF because it was full. So we book our own tour. Then was told we could have book when we arrived. Many other tours were cancelled and were told a refund would not be returned until 6 or 7 weeks after tour ended. A porter for our luggage at the airport from Santorini to Athens should be included. Instead of having to pay each time we left our luggage outside unattended. Transfers Some of us had to pay extra for transfers to/from airport even though a van was scheduled for the same pickup. In the description of the tour transfers were stated to be included. Not just telling us were on our own. When I emailed headquarters regarding transfer to airport, no one responded. We enjoyed the Acropolis tour. Didn't appreciate corralling the entire party to an expensive gift shop. Gift shop should have be just a recommendation instead of leaving people that couldn't afford the prices. And many tours we crammed inside a small hot space. There should have been an option to visit the Acropolis Museum instead. Would have been better to just recommend for people to go on their own. read more

We booked a tour through GH and everything seems fine until our (my) flight itinerary arrived mid January 2025. Immediately I noticed they had entered two suffixes for my last name. My first phone call was a waste of time to their customer service line. The gentleman on the other end advised he would put a note in my file but not to worry. I called United airlines to see if I could correct the issue and they informed me I would have to go through GH. As of this date I am four phone calls into their support and have been promised the world yet no one gets back to you. There is no direct line into their flight center but you are guaranteed a friendly customer service agent who will make promises that they do not deliver on. One email said they would have to cancel my flight and rebook it and they gave me 24 hours to decide because flights were going fast. If I replied after the said 24 hours I would be responsible for the increase in the new flight arrangements. No no GH YOU booked my flights and are therefore responsible for any increases as a result of your incompetence. I am a little more than 60 days from beginning this vacation and I have little faith GH will step up to the plate and make things right. This is my first trip with this company and will be my last. Go Ahead make it right or refund all of my money to include the trip insurance I purchased. read more

Be careful when booking, especially if you are a senior citizen. Don't go by the itinerary description. Call first. Better yet, use a different company. We lost $1800 ($900 booking fee and $900 insurance) even though we canceled 92 days out. Itinerary description never mentioned walking, standing, or climbing stairs. My husband is 73 and uses a walker. Obviously, we had to cancel. The insurance claim was denied because it was not a reason on their list. So, we couldn't go on vacation and lost $1800.
