I enjoy the counter service- it takes a place that could easily be stuffy and expensive and transforms it into a casual, easygoing eatery. The staff is always kind. My last visit, I brought my pup and wanted to sit outside, forgetting that it had stormed earlier in the day. The gentleman who took my order was kind enough to open the outdoor seating for me and even wiped the chairs down! Tonight's visit was maybe my 4th or 5th (with every time leaving me wondering "why don't I come here more,") and it is tonight that I've decided that Egg & Flour is quintessential Milwaukee. This may be the extra helping of wine (I sat at the bar, and the gentleman politely asked "would you like some more wine?" and politely topped me off, because - quintessential Milwaukee), but in short: we have incredibly delicious pasta at reasonable prices in a fast-casual type setting. Not what I expected but Solid choice! I have always seen this place in bay view and wanted to give it a try especially since I found out the chef was previously on food network. Wow, this pasta is just simply beautiful. I got the The Adam, and I have to say that bowl of pasta was not ready for this hungry little man to absolutely devour that bowl. The homemade pasta gave a solid foundation (composed of what I assume to be egg and flour ), the sauce allowed for a beautiful symphony of flavors to dance in my mouth, while the big cheese ball placed on top of the pasta added that little hint of uniqueness. Food has been consistently delicious. I have dietary restrictions and Egg and Flour is one of the few places where I can enjoy a meal as is. Their sundried tomato Campanelle pasta is my go to. My boyfriend and I went here yesterday and were a huge fan of the ambiance! It was like arcade bar meets Pasta bar. You order at the counter and are given a buzzer to alert when food is ready. I can't even BEGIN to describe my masterpiece of a pasta. I got the truffle lemache pasta. The parmesan cream was incredibly rich and believe it or not, creamy. The truffle on top added so much flavor to the pasta, I didn't even mind that my breath will smell like truffle for the next couple hours. The woman who took my order was so kind and patient with my indecisiveness, she even helped us pronounce the name of the pasta, as I was clearly struggling... The Mac n' Cheese is probably some of the best I've ever had, and $14 felt reasonable to me. The burrata and bread was great, too, but at $12 a little overpriced in my opinion. My dining companion went with the Wild Mushroom Tortellini, the special of the day. It was good, but didn't blow us away. At $20 it was also a bit too pricey. When we arrived, we were surprised to see that you order at the counter and then go retrieve the food when it's ready. If I'm being honest, Egg & Flour is like a slightly elevated, more expensive Noodles & Company. Will I be returning? Absolutely. The food was solid. Probably not or you easily run up a bill of $62.93 for two. The varieties of pasta are also interesting and the portions are generous. $8 for a Pinot Noir is on the high side, given the cafe-like setting. Parking does not exist except on the street. Meatballs are great, but make sure you realize they are $3 extra per piece. We liked the place and the chef, but may see what else is out there for the price. read more

We ordered takeout so didn't interact with staff much but we tried a cheese-based pasta and tomato-based pasta. The serving of pasta you receive is definitely worth the money. I thought the Caesar salad had pretty good flavor. The rigatoni was nothing fancy -- pretty simple/light, but it had a decent flavor to it. I would recommend adding meatballs to it because those were delicious and filling! The Shells dish was super rich and flavorful - especially if adding crispy chicken to it. Went there with my husband on a Thursday early evening. This place is pretty spacious and was empty when we walked in. We placed our order at the counter and sat down at the bar. It took maybe ten to fifteen minutes before the food came out. My husband ordered the Adam and I ordered one of their basic cream sauce pastas with a chicken breast. The food was pretty good and the pastas were nice and fresh. It is about five dollars more to order the chicken or meatballs on your entree, so my pasta ended up being around $19.00 while my husbands was $20.00. I also ordered a single whiskey and sprite, which was $5.00. Not cheap, but not too expensive either. You get pretty good size portion of food too. We both enjoyed our meals and said we would definitely go back again. read more

I've loved Egg & Flour since they started off at Crossroads. The Bay View location is nicely situated on Howell right off Kinnickinnic. You order at the counter and get one of those buzzer things that goes off when your order's ready. There's always been plenty of seating when I've been there, in the afternoon or evening. You can grab a seat at the bar or sit at a table. TV's play movies and the Food Network. Portions are reliably huge and the pasta is always fresh and al dente. Everything is good but my favorite is probably the rigatoni, with tomato cream sauce and topped with a burrata ball. I'm also partial to the bucatini with pesto cream and pistachios and the pappardelle dishes just because that's one of my favorite pasta shapes. I got the bread on a recent visit when I was hungry and didn't care about social norms around carbohydrate consumption. I was still thinking about the bread after the meal. It was hot and brushed with butter with more garlic butter on the side. It was perfect for soaking sauce but also delicious on its own. I've had the salads and they're delicious also. Prices for the amount of food you get are more than reasonable. Some of the rotating specials are not to be missed--check social media to see the latest. New restaurant of the week was this pasta restaurant and anyone who is friends or followers can see I don't do Italian very much because I'm Italian and and I ate so much pasta growing up and as an adult when I learned how to cook . Today I was craving a bolognese style pasta and meat balls so I stopped by here for lunch. There model is a little different because they don't have table service but more of a fast food style but it's not fast food in any way because you place and pay for your order and sit anywhere you want, when the pager goes off you go back to the counter and pick up your food. The decor is funky and more hip/modern than old crusty Italian restaurant with a black a and yellow theme. There is a cooler with fresh made pasta on display in front of the pasta making room where you can watch the fresh pasta getting made. Every order is made fresh one plate at a time I noticed. I ordered the Bolo Pappardelle with added meatballs which is Bolognese, meat sauce with fresh grated Parmesan in 6 inch wide flat noodles topped with 2 side meatballs with the cloud of Parmesan cheese. The meat balls were flavorful with the right texture. The Bolognese sauce was ok, it's not garlicky or grandmas but perfectly suitable because everyone's tastes are different. The fresh noodles were awesome and cooked perfect Al dente. The noodles are cooked to order and not laying around waiting for an order which I really appreciate. Overall is it the best pasta restaurant, no but they do pasta in a fresh cooked model and it definitely filled this Italians crave with out spending hours making a pot of pasta. read more

I started out looking for an old school Italian American red sauce shop and ended up stumbling upon and choosing Egg and Flour Pasta Bar instead because I knew just from looking at the photos that I would be hitting on a winner. Pasta here is all house made (both ribbons and cut pasta), cooked perfectly al dente, and coated in downright delicious sauces. You order at the corner and get a buzzer for when your food is ready. There's self service water, but also a nice selection of bottled drinks (San Pellegrino, Acqua Panna, etc.) for purchase. For dinner, I had the basil pesto bucatini and my daughter got the shells, to which she added grilled chicken. We also ordered a side bread, which was an 8-inch just okay loaf that was made *delicious* by the roasted garlic butter that came on the side. (We're talking about whole roasted garlic cloves, mixed up with creamy salted butter. Stupidly delicious.) Turns out there is no egg in their current recipe so he could order most things on the menu. (No carbonara or breaded chicken for those with an egg allergy.)
