I went for a friend's birthday and we had a good time. This was my first time here and I was quite impressed with ambiance. It's a very upscale Latino restaurant located off of Brady St. Walk-ins are fine if it is a slow night, but they highly recommend reservations because it can get packed. The restaurant is huge on the inside and with bar seating. The food is very good and so are the drinks. The staff are friendly and helpful if you don't know to pronounce the food in Spanish.

We were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary; after some searches on yelp and Google, we found Tauro Cocina. And as you can tell from the photos and smiles on our faces, we made the perfect choice for our special dinner. So many parts of our dining experience were perfect - from the atmosphere, service, food, drinks, and more. My main highlights were the food and decor/atmosphere. I really appreciate that the main food menu is one page long. Not only is it organized and printed well, but there are also A LOT of delicious options to choose from (and asking our amazing waiter for his recommendations also helped narrow our initially long list of choices). We ended up ordering the Asada Pizza and Parmesan Risotto. And O-M-G ... the pizza was yummy BUT the risotto with the Birria was INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. I will definitely be trying one of the multiple risotto dishes next time we visit the restaurant. Finally, the restaurant was thoughtfully designed and well lit. Though the restaurant was full of other diners, we experienced great service, the feeling of an intimate and romantic dinner, and wonderful views of the outdoor dining space. I had such a great time that I left my purse at our table but no worries because our waiter quickly caught us before we reached our car to return my purse. Thank you Tauro for the delicious food and service!

I've been to Tauro Cocina several times since I used to live across the street. It's a great spot to bring the parents, have date night, or a fun time with the girls. The Mexican/Italian fusion is great - think Mexican flavor on an Italian vessel (pizza, pasta, sandwiches). The chipotle pasta is my go to, but picture below is my recent new try, the spicy tomato pasta.

Food and service from our wait Edwin was amazing. He was very attentive and helped out with any requests we had. Birria pizza was a little oily and the cilantro risotto with the salmon was slightly over salted but overall it was great. The food was perfectly seasoned outside of that and the texture was great from both. The pizza is on the softer side but it works with style they are going for. No crispy crust. The place doesn't really have an "atmosphere" but it doesn't mean it's not cozy inside.

A+++++ for the delicious food we had at Tauro Cocina. Spanish/Italian fusion. Sat at the counter. Busy casual spot. Waiter was attentive. We had the Spicy tomato basil pasta with chicken & the linguini poblano w/chicken. The poblano pesto was out of this world tasty!!! YUM. We had a bottle of Tempranillo with our meal which sealed the deal. Casual spot on Water Street very close to where my son lives It was my favorite meal while in Milwaukee MEMORABLE indeed. Looking forward to a return visit here.

I was interested to see how they'd do an Italian Mexican fusion, some restaurants seem to just have some of each on the menu. But Tauro actually blended them in most of their dishes, like Romano cheese in their queso and more. It was delicious! I would emphasize getting a cocktail because ours were great, the vibes inside were great for a date night. I can't wait to go back soon! I also highly recommend a night of eagle park down the street and then Tauro!

Tried Tauro Cocina for the first time and really enjoyed it. From the atmosphere, to the food, to the drinks everything was great. There were many dishes on the menu that were tempting and will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu!

This restaurant is a real find, located on the quiet end of Water Street. Deceptively large, with a fun and lively bar area, cozy indoor dining, and a beautiful patio with fountain for outside dining. An eclectic Spanish/Italian/Mexican fusion menu. Pizza was solid. The poblano chicken pasta dish was unique and delicious. We dined at the bar where the service was fast, efficient, and friendly. Street parking was available without a problem.

Great spot!! We loved the warm pita and pesto dip. Cilantro risotto with shrimp was comforting and flavorful! Tres leches was more of a cake version but delicious nonetheless. Mango con chile was a great mocktail. The smoky fresh pizza smell permeates and makes it inviting. Friendly staff. Mike was so helpful with menu choices! We would definitely return if we lived here! Love the Mexican-Italian fusion. So unique!

We went to Tauro Cocina for the first time to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th birthday. Since I hadn't dined there before, I wasn't sure to expect since the only thing I knew was that it served Mexican-Italian food--but now it's definitely one of my favorite places in Milwaukee! We made a reservation for 8pm on a Thursday evening, but you really wouldn't have needed one as it wasn't busy. Our server was incredibly friendly, attentive and gave specific and honest recommendations, which we appreciated. We tried: - Appetizer: Pan de casa, with spinach and artichoke spread - Entrees: Cilantro risotto and fettuccini al mezcal - Drinks: Paloma Italians and the Ilegal en Milwaukee The mezcal fettuccini was quite unique, and a good representation of the creativity they have on the rest of the menu at Tauro Cocina.

My wife and I came for dinner with friends before a concert at Fiserv Forum. The bar and dining room were clean and not too busy because it was only 5 pm on a Saturday night. We all ordered drinks and appetizers to start. The Peroni on draft was served in an official cold Peroni glass. That and the buffalo mozzarella pizza were excellent to start. Our friends had some spicy latin cocktails and ceviche which they enjoyed. Service was excellent and the ambiance was lovely (brick and wood vintage dining room with cute lights). For entrees I had the Poblano pasta special with blackened chicken. Others had fancy salads and pizza that they found to be fresh and tasty. Portion sizes were generous and prices competitive (but still expensive) for the city and unique cuisine. Much better than our visit last year; we will be back the next time we're in town.

We just wanted a drink and a quick bite to eat and being during a baseball game, lots of places in the area were busy. There was a good crowd there watching the game as well. It's an interesting setup, reminds me almost of a living room (with dining tables) and then the small bar area is to the side. To order food, you do it through two wall kiosks which I like because you can look at options and not feel rushed unless there's a line. Outside they have tables and a tv as well. I choose a veggie sandwich which had a good kick to it! The smaller size was good enough for me. It was a bit confusing how to get your food, from what we understood, you have to go through a door to get to the kitchen window (bathrooms are that way too) but no one calls your order number or anything. I'd suggest an improvement on that way you know your food is ready or maybe we missed something. Overall, I would return and would like to try other items on the menu!

Most of those spots only open for dinner, so I was thrilled to find that Bavette La Boucherie now serves lunch. My friend, a local, told me the restaurant originally began as a butcher shop. While that's no longer the case, the space still pays tribute to its roots -- shelves lined with kitchen knick-knacks, butcher-block counters, and a display of local provisions that hint at its past. Chef-owner Karen Bell leads the way here, and you can feel her touch throughout -- from the creative menu to the casual-elegant vibe. The décor blends exposed brick and warm wood with soft light and a friendly hum from the open kitchen. Our server, Matthew R., had only been with Bavette a couple of weeks, but his background in restaurant management showed. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and offered great suggestions. Before our sandwiches arrived, we shared a cup of pork and tomatillo pozole topped with cabbage slaw and a dollop of sour cream. It was piping hot, bright, and deeply flavorful -- the kind of starter that makes you stop talking for a minute just to enjoy the next spoonful. Having read rave reviews of the Korean steak au jus, I nearly ordered it, but Matthew suggested the roast-beef with cheddar since I'm not a big lunch eater. Excellent call. The sandwich was divine -- tender, flavorful beef layered with melted cheddar on a crisp, perfectly toasted roll. The beef-fat fries had great depth of flavor, though I'd love them even more if they were twice-cooked for that extra crunch. Being more of a gin or vodka drinker, I couldn't resist the Gin Old Fashioned on the cocktail list. It was delicious -- smooth, aromatic, and balanced enough that I happily ordered a second. Great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Bavette La Boucherie is a gem I can't wait to revisit.

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.
