We love the Egg Harbor in Lake Geneva and eat at other ones when we're traveling and find them. So happy that this one opened in my hometown! Right in downtown Evanston, hubby and I came here after the wait at Walker Brothers was over an hour. So glad we did! No wait at all even though they were crowded! Samantha the hostess was very cordial and welcoming, both when we called and when we arrived, and Ruth, our server, was very personable and attentive. Egg Harbor Cafe is a gem. I almost gave up on restaurants that serve breakfast primarily. I love how they have very different dishes for breakfast and I've never had something I didn't like. Service is top notch and the restaurant is comfortable. Last time I had the Bacon BiBimBap and loved it. I'll definitely be back. read more

Everything was dry/overcooked, the potato's were tough like couple day old and the avacado was 90% black and old. On top of that homeless lady in the front harassing everyone. We got up Saturday morning craving a good breakfast. We initially chose Walker Brothers, but it was very crowded, with a wait of 45 minutes or more. We decided to keep looking and found one of my favorite spots, EGG HARBOR. We found this place because it's our go-to spot when we vacation at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I had no idea they had a location in Evanston. The food is always delicious and nicely presented. I had a spicy Bloody Mary that looked like it came from an art class rather than behind a bar. I ordered the eggs Benedict, and my wife had the egg skillet. The ambiance was pretty good. Everyone was engaged in their own conversations, enjoying midday brunch. I encourage you all to come and enjoy a delightful breakfast or brunch in downtown Evanston at Egg Harbor. Oh, and every person we met was pleasant and friendly, the kind of people who genuinely enjoy customer service. In such cases, you never mind leaving a big tip. I'm happy they opened a location here! This place is bright, open, cute and modern. I feel like the space isn't that big in seating, but the layout makes it nice and open that I didn't feel packed in. I came in on a weekend at 10am. It wasn't packed but it definitely did after this time. I ordered the eggceptional skillet combo with coffee and a side of bacon. Everything was delicious. I was happy/surprised that they offered me to take home the leftover coffee in a to go cup! The staff is super friendly. Jose was great in taking my order and making sure I was good. First time ordering, and I got the Gregg's omelet because the black bean chili looked so good in the pic. Major disappointment. Look at the pic advertised and what I got. There were about 3 tablespoons of chili, and the potatoes were dry and had no seasonings, not even salt. Ordered the blackberry and banana pancakes with extra bananas and pecans, which I paid extra for both. They had 2-3 slices of bananas in a large pancake and TINY pecan chips that were barely detectable. The pancakes were mushy, too. I never give harsh reviews, but this breakfast warrants it. I went to Egg Harbor in Barrington a few months ago, and then decided to try this one in Evanston this weekend. One thing I can say - at least they're consistent. Pros: Comfy and spacious interior that's bright, clean, modern. Many parties, including ours, were seated at tables that fit more people. Servers were attentive and very friendly - service was absolutely spot on. Coffee drinks are great (can't speak to the alcoholic ones as I haven't tried them here), and the griddle items (fluffy pancakes and waffles) seem to be their strong suit. Kids' menu offers a nice selection (including a cool green eggs and ham!), and the sausage link that comes as an option with the kids stuff is great. Cons: All the other food I've tried was pretty mediocre. Harbor potatoes are bland, and seem like they came diced and frozen from a bag at the grocery store. Hollandaise sauce on my Eggs Benny was a sad yellow sauce, plus the veggies might as well have come from a can. The menu has a whole section for avocado toasts, but I avoided it this time, because I ordered one at the Barrington location, and it was more like guacamole toast, if the guac had been sitting out for an hour getting brown. read more

We came in with a friend in wheelchair to celebrate her 90th birthday and we were treated with such respect and care. It was a busy Sunday at noon and there were 8 of us but they worked hard to get us a comfortable table and service was great! Gives you hope in the kind younger generation! read more

It is pains me to do this as I used to order breakfast to go from here weekly but recently the quality of food has not been the same and this morning the fruit I received was moldy. Such a shame because now it makes me question how fresh the rest of the ingredients they use are putting me off from eating here again. today was my second visit - always willing to give a place a 2nd try. The good news is the staff is very nice, friendly and accomadating. The bad news is the first visit the English muffin was practically raw , the omletee was tasteless. Today, I tried the pumpkin pancakes - they were soggy! I can't imagine the bacon could be bad - but it was - tasteless. This is all very diasapointing as the location is great, especially with a nice outdoor patio. Sadly, I won't go back. read more

The restaurant and the staff were very nice. It was great to get a hot cup of coffee on cold day and they left the pot on the table to refill our cups and let us take the leftovers with us. Promise re delivery and lie to you just to get you off the phone. They will re direct orders to other locations if you leave negative reviews as well. So Petty! Whole place is garbage. Try the one in Glenview, IL instead! Staff is much much kinder there. Don't take your business to these lying rude a-holes on Maple. I was here for the soft opening in Evanston, it was a beautiful location to visit! I've been to many Egg Harbor locations since I was a kid, and this new location met my expectations. Very inviting and welcoming environment, the hosts and servers made it a fun celebration. Our server Johnny was very kind and checked in frequently to make sure things were going well. The food was delicious, great pancakes, great avocado toast, delicious bacon, and good coffee. The manager Sydney was very friendly and created a relaxed, welcoming environment. The Strawberry Matcha latte was underwhelming as it was watery and just didn't live up to expectations. The strawberry crunch French toast was good but nothing special.. it definitely looked better than it tasted. Berries were good along with the French toast but there was no crunch components as mentioned in the name. I've been here 3 times since its opening and overall I've had a good experience, though today has been uniquely mid. My verdict: they make good American breakfast foods, both sweet and savory. Today, they had the usual weekend rush of people, but they also had some communication and organizational issues as well. I was waiting for a table for 2 when the hostess left to attend to some other matters, another table for 2 came in 10 minutes after us, a different waiter came up to them and immediately brought them to a table (no reservation). That was a bit frustrating since we were waiting first, but luckily our hostess quickly came back, saw what happened, and told us there was a table ready for us too. I wanted to try something new and got the shakshuka. When we got our food, I started to dig in. Then the waitress came back to our table with a different plate of shakshuka saying they sent us the wrong eggs and replaced my order with the correct poached eggs (and cheese that was missing on the first plate). It was more evidence of disorganization. They have a lot of employees, but they just need to be managed better. They were all exceedingly kind and apologetic, though. I don't blame them one bit. My partner ordered the Swedish pancake and those were great. I've had their berry crunch french toast in the past and that was great. Same with their benedict. The shakshuka was pretty lackluster and very liquidy. Not much spice added. Just stick with the American classics here. There's better shakshuka at other restaurants in Evanston. The whole restaurant was very full and busy. The vibe was modern farmhouse. In general we've had really good experiences at Egg Harbor, but today fell flat. Met with my daughters and their kids this morning for breakfast with the kidlettes. Very accommodating and kid-friendly. This was the first time I'd been there. High-chair, no problem. Distressed toddler, no problem. Patient waiter, we were seated quickly, served in a timely fashion, the food was good, the grand kids were happy, oh, and they brought me a full carafe of coffee, what more can you ask? The place was buzzing with activity, every table was full, families, students a little mixture of everything. I'm happy to see them doing well. It's bright and comfortable, and once the weather is warmer, it's going to be a great place to sit outside with the family. I'm looking forward to it. read more
