Stopped by for brunch and was rather disappointed with my visit - there were too many things that couldn't be chalked up as flukes/one-offs. Between the two of us we had an order of crab hash and an omelet. The crab hash was basically two poached eggs with hollandaise sauce over a hash of lump crab and potatoes. Let's start with the positives: - The place is brightly lit and clean (even the men's room and the bits of the kitchen visible on the way to the bathrooms). - It almost has a spa-like vibe. In fact, I'm very sure I've seen the wall decorations and the front desk at a spa before. - Excellent wait staff. The food is where the let downs were: - If you insist on making bad puns with "egg," you should at least do the poached eggs properly. My poached eggs bordered on being disastrous. The feathered edges weren't trimmed, and the whites were rubbery on the edges. Also, one of the two poached eggs on my plate was half-cooked (about half of it was fully cooked and not runny at all). The over-done poached eggs is probably not a fluke, since the woman one table over had a poached egg that had a fully cooked yolk and one that's done properly. - The poached eggs weren't seasoned at all. I'm guessing they didn't salt the poaching liquid. - The hollandaise sauce was, to put it bluntly, bad. First-attempt by a culinary student bad. It was over-salted, and it had actually developed a skin on top! A skin that had cracked! (Think pudding skin that broke because you jostled the cup a little). And there was too little of it. - The breakfast potatoes looked wonderful, but despite all the browning they got, there was no single crispy bit. I'm not exaggerating here: the lack of crunchiness/crispiness was so lacking that it may as well have been boiled potatoes. They desperately needed some salt and pepper. - The crab portion of the crab/potato hash was also disappointing. When I think of anything-hash, I always imagine that the ingredients were tossed in a hot skillet. If I had to guess, I'd say that my crab/potato hash were dumped together in the bowl and nuked. Oh, it lacked seasoning too. - The Swiss cheese on the omelet was just plain weird. Imagine making an omelet and plating it, then putting postage-sized deli-sliced cheese on it like you would stick stamps on envelopes. The omelet also lacked seasoning. - The home-made jams were a big let down. Horribly runny and ultimately one-dimensional in flavour. In fact it was mostly sugar with a hint of strawberry/blueberry. The only saving grace is that there's so much berries compared to liquid that they were still decent on toast. Overall the service gets 4.5 stars, and the food 1 star. I really wanted to like the place, but I doubt if I'll stop by the restaurant again. read more

I've eaten here a few times a year since they opened; it's the only place I go for breakfast. I took my son and his girlfriend for breakfast last Sunday for our birthdays, and came home embarrassed. I had corned beef hash, my son had steak and eggs benedict, and she had crab hash. All of the poached eggs were very undercooked, as was the steak. Everybody was being polite, so I didn't realize that we all had problems until near the end of the meal. We each brought half a meal home, but nobody ate the leftovers. read more

I really expected more when I looked at the menu. I had the baked egg Florentine which was a bit tasteless but OK. My husband enjoyed his breakfast and said his muffin tasted fresh. I think what bothered me the most with this restaurant was that the price and presentation of the food hinted at ingredients from a local origin and fresh baked goodies, but when I asked the waitress where the bread for my toast came from, she said it was delivered on truck from some unknown food warehouse. I suppose that maybe it was just my mood, but I really believed for a minute that I was eating fresh locally produced food and I left disappointed that I had merely had an better-presented "Double T" breakfast. read more

My work gets catered breakfasts once a month, and Eggcellence is my favorite place that they order from. I love their tater tots and bacon egg and cheese bagel. The eggs are always cooked to perfection -never runny or over cooked. I have not yet visited their physical location but would love to in the future. read more

Overall a good place and a great concept. But eggs on hash were overcooked. One the yolk was popped out from the egg and light yellow. To me this was enough to lose them the 5th star. What cook does not notice this and know the eggs are overcooked in a joint named after...eggs. Jon our server was great. Very casual but we had everything. Waffles, bacon, corned beef hash, toast and homemade jams were wonderful. The syrup tasted watered down. 8.00 for a waffle I would like some decent maple syrup. Not some vermont best, but a log cabin or sysco grade would be better than what they served. There was a kid of the other waitress running around being annoying, but its spring break and I don't have kids so my patience level has not developed yet for kids yelling "mommy, mommy" so I will not judge that in the rating. We will be back for sure, but we will order the eggs poached not boiled. For the pricing the place is definitely a weekly visit spot. read more

I forgot to take a picture of my food but oh well... let me start by saying this is such a quaint little place! I'd never been here before and it wasn't a place that was recommended so I had no idea of what to expect. From the minute we walked in were we greeted in such a pleasant manner. As soon as we were seated we were greeted by our waitress and she had a great personality! I ordered the sampler and it was a great portion of everything! I was very pleased with how short of a time it took for our food to come out...& there were plenty of people in here! The other person I was with order a baked egg and it came with fruit and toast. We spoke to the owner and told him we were really enjoying the place & that it was our first time...he told us he was happy were were enjoying ourselves & talked a bit. Soon after he walked away and came back with one of there EGGcelent muffins! My goodness it was soooo good! It was the cherry on top (literally...black cherry and almond muffin). We would definitely recommend this place to anyone we come across. I'm sure we'll be back soon!!! read more

We have planned on several occasions to try this place but for whatever reason never made until Sunday 1/15/17. Eggcellence is a great place to have breakfast! We were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival (may have been sooner but we ran into longtime friends in the waiting area and were trying to catch up). The service was very quick! We placed our order and in what seemed like moments our food was there! I had the American Breakfast and my husband opted for Pancakes with sausage and eggs. Both meals were hot and our eggs were cooked perfectly (over easy-medium). The pancakes were very tasty with a mild sweetness even before adding the syrup. The potatoes were hot and seasoned so we really enjoyed them. The peach preserves were delicious and was a nice add-on to breakfast. The menu items were priced fairly as the portions were much larger than anticipated so I was pleasantly surprised. We will definitely add this to our list of wonderful places to have a quick, hot, hearty breakfast with great customer service. read more

After reading reviews on Yelp for our first visit to Annapolis, my mom and I chose Eggcellence for breakfast on Sunday morning after the Zooma Half Marathon. I was definitely hungry after the race and was worried we would have to wait a long time for a table since we couldn't make reservations. However, we were seated 5 minutes after arriving. Our server was very friendly and attentive with the water and coffee. I got the french toast which was pretty good. I asked the server for it "well done" which made the challah slightly hard and I expected a bit more cinnamon. My mom had the corn beef hash. She was expecting more of canned version but was happy with the homemade dish (I tried a few bites and it was good). We also got a side of home fries and ratatouille, both of which were delicious and flavorful. Overall, a good breakfast. read more

We were visiting from Pennsylvania & this is a little gem. The breakfast choices are great. We just had the American breakfast, but the bacon and sausage were delicious & the potatoes were crispy and tasty. The cappuccino is very good and the waitstaff is very attentive. Stopped here for a quick brunch while in town for a doctors appointment. Service was prompt and delightful, and food was AMAZING! We had the French toast and the Maryland omelettes, which had fresh tomatoes, crab meat, and Swiss cheese and was topped with a beautiful piece of avocado. Everything was delicious. Ate at eggcellence this morning for the first time and last time. The resturant was nice and the staff very friendly but the food was lacking in flavor. And to me, that's kind of an important factor when deciding to return. I had the classic egg Benedict. It was cooked perfectly but the hollendise sauce had no flavor and almost a Metalic taste. The potatoes also were cooked fine but didn't really taste like much except cooked potatoes. No seasoning. I think a lot of people like this place, but if you ask me where to go in Annapolis for breakfast, I would not suggest eggcellence. Sorry. read more

Always a great experience, and a go-to for weekend breakfasts. The food here is always fresh and well prepared - not greasy in any way. They are usually crowded but do a great job in getting folks in and out... My daughter has soy allergies which is found in almost all processed foods (and greasy spoons), we have never had problems here! The fresh baked muffins are always a good option!! We prefer this over Miss Shirley's and Iron Rooster for the great service, food and overall experience!! read more

just got home from Eggcellence and all i can say is avoid this place. as a party of four our wait was 20 mins not to bad at all considering the size of Eggcellence. we were seated right around 1010 am. our server whose name I dont know because she never intruduced herself (back female) came over and took our drink order. 3 coffees and 1 milk and water for all. coffee came out right away with the water which had something floating in it. the waters were replaced and cream for the coffee was supposed to come out with it and the ordered milk. well the water came out but no cream or milk. my sister in law had to track down the server to get the milk after 25 mins. at this point numerous other tables had been seated and served their food and finsihed before the milk was delivered. our server told us the computer was down, but from my seat was i could see her plugging things into the computer. so i dont believe that excuse. at 1055 am a western omlete and crapes came out. 5 mins later my wifes tamale came out and 3 mins later my pancakes were finally placed on the table. a quick taste of the pancakes and i realized they were not cooked all the way through. so after almost an hour seated the food wasnt done all the way. approximately two more tables seated after us finished up and left. finally found the server and informer her of the pancake issue. she took them back and had another plate made. a quick taste test of them and these were not cooked all the way through either. the server came by with more coffee which had been empty for 15 mins or so and asked how the new pancakes were to which i told her they werent cook either and had her take them away. my wife decided to inform me that the eggs in her tamale were under cooked too and my brothers western omelette was under cooked as well. the server didnt charge us for the milk or the pancakes and continued to blame the broken computer for the issues that no one else was having. service was terrible and the food was just as bad. i am normally a 20% plus tipper but today i deemed 5 cents was what was deserved. the product would have received less than that. i will never return to this place and will tell all of my firends to avoid. read more

This is a pretty nice place to eat breakfast in Annapolis, but apparently not the place to go if you want to relax and catch up with a friend over a meal. I met a friend for breakfast and we lingered over our meal a bit and stayed for a little while after we finished eating. The manager abruptly asked us to leave because they had "quite a wait building up" at the door. Upon leaving there were a few people waiting for a table, but not nearly as many as I would have thought for him to ask us to leave! We were there for an hour and 40 minutes total, and arrived early when the restaurant was still quite empty. We were about to wrap things up as it was and I felt that it was unnecessary and very rude for him to kick us out! I used to wait tables in college and I understand that "camping out" is rude to do at a restaurant but I really don't feel like we were doing that, and have never made a habit of doing that there or anywhere else. My friend and I were shocked to be treated this way and it will be a long time before we return. read more

After almost 5 years of living in Annapolis I decided to try this place out. I live close to all the really good breakfast spots like Grump's and Main Ingredient, which is why it has taken me awhile to venture to a new place for breakfast. I keep hearing that this place always has a wait, so I was surprised that on a Sunday morning we were seated within 5 minutes! Very good start. Good, relatively quick service, but the food was just ok. I got the Eye Opener, which was a fried egg with sausage and cheese sandwich on a toasted kaiser roll with home fries, and my husband got the Corned Beef Hash. He said it was the worst he has ever had. The hash should be cooked on a flat top making the dish very crispy. Instead, they boiled the potatoes and mixed in regular deli meat into it. Bland and no flavor! He showed me how much water was at the bottom of his dish. My meal was nothing to rave about. Glad I tried it out. It's a cute place, but I think we will stick to our regular breakfast spots! read more
