We really enjoyed our lunch today at Chick and Ruth's Delly. I ordered the cheesesteak, and it was really good. The homemade roll was particularly good. One thing, I'd prefer a little less onions and more meat. My boyfriend got the hot pastrami and inhaled it- five stars for that. We also both got a fancy milkshake, but because it was to go, it was deconstructed so the baked goods wouldn't fall off. I had the black and white cookie milkshake. To be honest the shakes are nothing special though they are good! but that cookie was unreal. It was massive, soft, and just perfect. Same comment for the strawberry milkshake- the shake was fine but the donut was amazing! It wasn't greasy at all and so satisfying. The spirit of Annapolis is self contained in this compact little diner. Steps away from the USNA, Chick & Ruth's is a charming little spot that captures the classic diner feel with the soul of a local business that stands ten toes down for the local sports team just a few steps away. The crab cakes are great, the burgers are solid, and the deli Sammys aren't half bad either. If you're feeling bold, I recommend doing the Colossal Challenge. If you come during breakfast and it's before 8am on the weekday or before 9:30am before the weekends prepared to drop everything you're doing and join the friendly staff to say the pledge of allegiance! Chick & Ruth's is peak local business, it's a great spot for any Navy game (or visiting their loved ones attending USNA), and offers comfort diner food. M'eh. This place has been on my list for years but this was my first visit. I was expecting so much more. More space. The tables and booths are very tight. That said, I didn't feel interrupted by the conversation of the folks next to us but the guy's elbow bumped me a couple times. We were basically shoulder to shoulder with the barrier between our food. More food. Given their penchant for super sized foods, I thought the default sandwich would be bigger. It wasn't bad but it was kind of skimpy. And it didn't come with anything. I got the jumbo fries and my nephew and I finished them with no trouble. More flavor. Yeah, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great! A Reuben should be really powerful with all the different flavors but this turkey Reuben was a bit muted. I joked that I would try to challenge menu but I would need to taste the food first to make sure I liked it. And one of the first things you see when you walk in is their glass case with various pastries. Dang, I'm in trouble! The all look so good! Then, there is the menu. Wow! They offer a lot of different options. After a quick review, I knew I wanted breakfast, so I ordered a simple Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a Bagel. It was great! And during this whole experience, we had really good service ... checking up on us regularly. But wait, I'm not done yet. You see, I order the BEC on a bagel for a reason. I wanted to make sure I had room for one of their delicious pastries. And they had one of my favorites ... apple fritter. Oh man! It was soo good! Amazing Annapolis staple with so many options to choose from. My wife and I went her for breakfast in 4th of July. It was pretty full but they had a booth for us. Service was friendly and fast. Decor is full of many pictures. It's an older place and does not seem wheelchair accessible. The place rose for pledge of allegiance while there which is an interesting daily traditions. They have menu items named after most of the Maryland politicians. We got the pizza bagel named for Senato Jeff Waldstreicher as we are friends with his family as well as the Golda Meir lox sandwich (former Israeli Prime Minister that my great grandmother and my namesake hosted in her own home). Great food and service! Met some friends for a Christmas eve brunch. It was packed but not too long of a wait for a table. Was my first time dining here but my friends had been before. Our server, Sarah was great! Very attentive and friendly. I was feeling more lunch than breakfast so I opted for a reuben sandwich with a side of fries! Probably the best reuben I've had. I would come back just for that! Got a mimosa with pineapple juice (I prefer that over orange juice). It was good! Parking is tight but not impossible. There's a nearby garage! This is an awesome diner/deli in historic downtown Annapolis. We went in for lunch and we able to grab a seat quickly. On our way to our seat, I noticed their delicious looking desserts in the glass display (we were too full to try any this time, but definitely would make an effort to next time!). Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered their #33 which is a crispy chicken sandwich with provolone, lettuce, and tomato. I requested some Mayo on the side. I also ordered Mac and cheese. My bf ordered country fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese. The meals came out quickly, nice and hot. My sandwich was huge! I enjoyed it; the chicken was well prepared. The breading did come off a bit as I ate it, but not a big deal (and those crispy pieces were yummy!). The Mac and cheese was tasty and delightfully cheesy. I ended up taking about half of my meal home since I was so full. My bf loved his meal as well and said the country fried steak was one of the best he's had. I wish I lived closer to Chick and Ruth's, though perhaps it is better for my waistline. Ordered a hot pastrami on white toast with a side of fries and the banana peanut butter fancy shake to share. The fries needed a little salt and pepper, but they came out so hot and fresh that I had to force myself to stop eating them when they arrived to focus on the sandwich. Sandwich and shake were both tasty. I recommend sharing the shake if you can because they don't hold back. We also got one of their large black and white cookies to go, which was as good as the black and whites I've had in NYC for half the price. I don't know exactly what's in the potatoes but I can see why they're famous. I also enjoyed the pork chops. Breakfast anytime is a major selling point, and you will want to try that sausage gravy. Chick and Ruth Stein This place was a real experience and I mean that in the most positive way. Each of the small tables had a multitude of pictures on the wall giving the space a nice local vibe. We were there for breakfast and I have to mention we were surprised when we were asked to stand at 9:30 AM for the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a nice local touch given that the Navy is a prominent feature there. Each one of our dishes was above average and we would definitely return to try other items on the menu. I had a bagel with swiss cheese, ham and eggs, and it was perfect. The Greek omelette was beautiful. The home fries were way above the norm and well seasoned. My wife is very fussy about how her eggs are cooked and they cooked them exactly to her specifications. That's really impressive in such a busy place. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. Hey the coffee was good too. We are originally from the New Jersey area, which has wonderful diners and a reputation for being the diner capital of the United States; and we have to say that this diner exceeded our expectations. We saw this place when looking for must do spots, then we saw iffy reviews, but those people must be nuts because this place was fantastic. It's got the theme if it aint broke don't fix it. This is a true old school type diner and loved every minute of it. Our server was great she was attentive, helpful and hilarious. It was a packed Sunday morning but we sat right now. The menu is HUGE but when in Maryland crab it up, so I did crab omelette and my husband had to do the pastrami, my only complaint was too may onion in potato (upset my stomach) and the side bage was not a true NY bagel like I read in a review. There was more crab than egg and had so much flavor. I added the old bay hot sauce which gave a great kick. My husband said he would drive the 4.5 hour drive for his sandwich again. We stopped in for lunch after our tour of the Naval Academy and were not disappointed. We seated ourselves outside at a table for people watching and were greeted pretty quickly. The menu is large and has breakfast, lunch and dinner items you can order all day long. I chose to make my own chopped salad for about $10.99 + $5 for turkey - when it came out it was HUGE. I ate and ate and ate and still took home something that looked like an entire portion. I also had a sweet tea and it was amazing! Perfectly made. My husband chose to get the Reuben with crispy fries and loved it. He said it was one of the best Reubens he's ever had and he's probably had 10,000 of them. Fresh pickles and spicy mustard were served while we waited - noms! Really good pickles. I went inside to use the bathroom - one single small bathroom at the top of the stairs - unisex. Kind'a add to the dive-y charm here. I liked the inside deli feel with small, close booth tables and bar seating. They serve a bunch of baked goodies and huge cookies inside too - like $1.99 each. Service was easy and smooth the entire time we dined and we chatted with a local who was seated behind us. I can see why this place is a staple for local's and students. A must try for sure. Missing the days of a short drive to Langer's, Philippe, and Benjies, I had to save my 200th review and homage to Chick & Ruth's in the heart of Annapolis. It has been years and I smiled when we were seated right in the very same space where I frequented back in my early years. Salivating for the stacked sight of a warm oozey sandwich, the mean hankering for a reuben came with a vengeance. Savory is an indulgence for me and The Senator Ben Cardin reuben here fit the bill. Shout out to Aneesah, our beautiful server! Quick and attending each stall, she maneuvered through the tight spaces to her guests with ease and all smiles. Our Reubens came piping hot with steam atop and fries to burn my tongue just the way I like 'em. We came for the no frills and it was met with full satisfaction. Booths worn by decades of camaraderie, a menu expanded little by little until there is barely room for it, servers who have that East coast motherly charm- "you're an important part of my day but not you're not my whole day so get on with it." Great local restaurant. Tons to choose from on the menu. I have enjoyed everything I've ever eaten there. The prices are very affordable. The dining area downstairs shares space with the kitchen so it is small and kinda cramped but there is more space upstairs. I have sent several people there and in turn they have sent people there. Everyone agrees that the food is delicious, the staff is bubbly and good, and the prices are not too hard on the wallet. Parking is hard to come by. There is paid, metered street parking but there is also a paid parking lot and 2 or 3 blocks away. I highly recommend you check them out. read more

Food was good, prices were competitive. Was different sitting in a split booth, where it could seat one party of 4 or two parties of 2, as that meant we had some neighbors right next to us. But despite the closeness of everyone, it wasn't super loud. I got the western omelette with cheese (basically a Denver), and my wife got the crab omelette (only in Maryland, right?). Both were great, as were the home potatoes. My omelette was about what you'd pay for similar elsewhere, wife's was a bit pricey, but then again it was crab, so was to be expected. The service was also very good. Waitress was quick with our drinks and then meals, and made sure to check in on us every so often. The place is small; it can be a tight squeeze walking through and some of the tables you end up with a very small amount of room. However, it's a unique experience. I don't eat seafood but my friend decided to order it with a side of sweet potato fries. I ordered a steak sub sandwich with regular fries. My friend loved her food. I enjoyed my food but I wish the sandwich had either a dipping sauce or some kind of spread on it. It had nothing so it was quite dry. The fries were deliciously crispy. This place is known for their milkshakes. We were so full from our food that we decided to come back later to have one. They have a 6 pound milkshake challenge. No way I could do that but there's a board of people that have been able to do it. Instead, we got a couple of their specialty shakes. It was delicious! It was so bad that I knew once I got back to Maryland, I had to come here and have the dish made properly. Let me tell you all the reasons why this dish was so much better. First of all, they actually make the corned beef hash in house from scratch & it makes a big difference. Second, the potatoes are seasoned, you can literally see it. This is the perfect greasy spoon that has been serving the community for decades. You can feel the small town, local community atmosphere here the second you step in. The walls are covered in photos of local politicians and celebrities, along with students from the local colleges. My wife had the Maryland style crab soup and crab cakes. Out of all the places we had crab cakes this trip, this was her favorite and by far the cheapest.
