I had never been to Franklin Grove but my brother moved nearby and told me that I had to try this place. I am so glad I did! This restaurant may not be fancy but their flavor profile is mega-Americana! Home style flavors come through and home-town feel from the servers. Franklin Grove, about 15 - 20 minutes from the Nachusa Grasslands bison herd, is located on Lincoln Highway, and the Lincoln Way Cafe is the perfect lunchtime diner for a couple of weary Bison observers. My turkey-bacon club with fries was excellent. My wife had the open faced beef sandwich smothered in gravy plus mashed potatoes...DEElicious. Both sandwiches included salad (or soup). Breakast is super cheep (like $5 and under) and suprising great, come hungry you get a ton of food. Lunch is normal sandwich, soup, fries (not my style) but cheep and made well. Really the best breakfast in like a 30 mile radius. read more

Be sure and order the chicken & dumpling soup before your entree, unless they've already sold out by the time you're there. It's a big favorite! Awesome omelets, and generous fillings. Too bad dinner is only served on Fridays, but I guess the owners deserve some time off, too. A filling, tasty dinner for two can be had, plus tip for around $20.00. Many Friday nights you have to wait for a table for a few minutes if you arrive much after 5:30, but it's worth the short wait, and there are usually friendly locals willing to chat. read more
