I've frequented EGO many times with straight and gay friends. It has changed over time, not for the better, not for the worse. EGO is a welcome addition to Providence as they are one of the few places to offer a hip-hop night. Fridays are 'Twerk Friday' and they play hip-hop, r&b, reggae and a little spanish music. Most clubs in the area are all techno/house music and we all know that almost every song sounds the same. The space is decent with a large dance floor and a "VIP" section. There are dancers that gyrate all over the place and they have their own little following of groupies that will push you to the ground so they can smash their face in a sweaty mans crotch, but I digress. The drinks are well made and appropriately priced. I've never had trouble getting a bartenders attention but I've heard some people do. The one thing I miss is the outdoor seating. Once upon a time there were small tables with chairs out back in the courtyard/smoking area and it was perfect for getting some air (if not cigarette smoke tainted) and getting off your feet for a few minutes. They have since done away with this seating which makes me sad. I continue to visit EGO, Fridays only, with my friends. I definitely prefer it over other area gay clubs/bars. read more

Where do I begin. Last night I went with our friends, 3 of us got our IDs checked and we got our wristbands. My other 3 friends were told to just go in, didn't bother checking ID. The Bouncer just assumed we were all 21 due to association. Thursday nights are pretty dead, except for the one time a group of men were literally having intercourse on the dance floor. Or the time a man pulled down his pants at the bar. So moving along, as we are in the club 2 of our friends who didn't get their wristbands we're going to get drinks. A bouncer didn't see that the wristband so he said "NO DRINKS" my girl asked why and explained that she was 22 and had a valid ID, handed it to him but he refused to listen because he looked stupid assuming in the first place. Tried explaining that the doorman, didn't give them a wristband and just let them in. They are over 21 so just by checking the ID, what I'm about to say could've been avoided. Same bouncer grabbed one of the girls, ripping off her top, lifted her and tried to drag her out. She is 5'1, getting dragged out by 2 other bouncers. My other girl is the same stature and was also dragged out. They were rough and rumbustious. We asked for help because all of us being petite, facing off these men was very unsettling. My other friend who tried to pry these men off the girls, was also picked up and slammed outside of the door, they punched him in the head, his scalp is full of scraps. His hand blooded. All this wouldn't have happened if EGO simply checked the IDs of my friends. The fact that they assaulted my friends was the worst experience I've ever had at EGO. And trust me there's been a lot of unfortunate events that have happened here but this exceeded prior experiences. Bouncers were clearly bored, I've seen them fight and drag people by the hair, countless times. Never thought it was happen to us this time. Honestly throw out the whole club. They need to revamp their staff and the owner should know what goes on in this place. We won't stay quiet, this experience will be shared everywhere. Never go to EGO. read more

Being originally from Boston, I go to the owner's Boston nights often! When in Providence, I make it a priority to go to Ego. Been three times so far, Once on a Friday, twice on a Saturday. Both nights have entirely different crowds (I am more partial to the Saturday night crowd as their Friday's cater to a hip hop type crowd which I am not really into). This club is small by comparison to my Boston spots, but it is fun. Fully stocked bar with great bartenders. Drag Queens and Dancers. Best part, open til 3AM which is a great contract to the 2AM in Boston. Another plus is that their back alley way allows them to offer a smoking area which you can bring your drink out onto, which is another contrast to Boston. The DJ on Saturdays, Richie, is great! Often he plays in Boston at Underbar and Estate so it was a pleasant surprise to see him in Providence. Overall, love going here when in Providence. Love the Saturday nights and I hear amazing things about their Sundays. Deff worth checking out for the Gay traveler in Providence. read more

A breath of fresh air to the gay community of Providence. After all the other sad attempts to recreate the days of old in this area, I was a bit skeptical - however, I was pleasantly surprised. The energy inside is as intense as it gets; I thought Providence had lost this charisma for good - but it's back! I arrived with my older sister and were greeted at the velvet ropes by a very friendly bouncer. This was already making my night. I'm not a child and I hate being treated like one by a bouncer - finally a club that hires someone that can control the crowd, but still maintain a polite demeanor. A few moments later we were greeted by a kind fellow named Eric behind a window to collect our cover. He was a bit of a charmer and very friendly, he was making his pecs dance underneath his tight muscle-shirt. A total heartthrob, I'm sure. As we entered the club: the music, the lights, the boys... the boys... oh... the boys. Half-naked, shirtless boys were everywhere you looked! Shakin' it to Lady Gaga and Britney Spears while striking a pose and taking their selfies! The bartenders JD and that dreamy Richie D sure can mix up a fine cocktail and at reasonable rates too! As we danced the night away on the elevated platforms, I even almost got lucky. Key word "almost" haha. Perhaps it was because I was with my sister... or perhaps I mistook his intent. However tacit it may have been, I still thought it might happen - and that's something I haven't seen in Providence in some time. I can't wait to check out this venue in the summer! !!!!! Nothing screams wasting money by over serving patrons. !!!!!! VIA glow event. Boy with harness gave me +5oz of alcohol when my drink called for 2. Who in their right mind puts over 5oz in that is taking business losses for profit as tips. For one, the floors are super sticky. Do not wear flip flops. Cleanliness isn't the best via dance floor or carpet. Secondly, use your stages better. Not constant dancers. Rotations. 4.5 minutes with a 30 second overlay of dancers. Only two at at time. The high low beat was obvious it was like the DJ wanted the bar to not have customers. They call it sucky music for a reason. Thirdly the sound system was amazing, I think that it was amazing. If EGO changes anything DUALING DJ's. My recommendations: Yes this bar has good bumpy music for the Friday and the Saturday night tide. Enjoy! If anything this is probably a good bar to go to if they keep it clean and reprimand for over pouring. I think the floors being sticky is a safety hazard and is also disgusting. read more

I went to EGO with my boyfriend and paid a $20 cover for both of us which isn't bad at all. I honestly love that everyone here immediately starts dancing shaking their hips as they walk in! You're pretty much always guaranteed a good time when you come here. The music is always amazing and pretty much everyone ends up dancing at some point. The drinks are VERY strong so you at least get your money's worth. They always have the AC blasting so it's like impossible to work up a sweat, which is a plus in my book. There's also tons of free street parking, and I never have an issue finding a space. My one complaint is that the $10 cover on the weekends seems steep to me. read more

This is the place to go if you want to dance!! We went on a Friday night around 11 and got drinks, which were average priced and good. The crowd started filing in around midnight, and I swear everyone was dancing. The DJ was great; he played diverse songs and for more than 10 seconds so you could actually get a rhythm going! The bathroom was decent, nothing fancy but it was clean. The staff I did encounter was friendly enough. The other patrons also seemed friendly. Went to EGO this year for new years and it was great time with great music until a 6 foot 5 inch man put him hand around my throat and chocked me out for no reason. I went up to security being scared that someone would do this and they honestly didn't do anything. I told them the description of the guy and they didn't move. Went out with my friends to get our coats and leave after this happened and that same guy came up to me clearly wasted and started to yell at me. Once again security did nothing. I go to EGO for the block party at pride and never had any issues and security is on point with getting asshole' s out of there but clearly on new years they could give two shits...very disappointed about this experience from that stand point. I recently went on a Sunday night to see the Go-Go boys and was more than pleasantly surprised. Some of the former male strip bars in Providence featured mostly straight(gay 4 pay) trolls who could neither dance nor tolerate conversation without being plied with drinks. The boys here are fresh, they can definitely dance (great DJ BTW) and are friendly. Drinks are good, reasonably priced, friendly bartenders, mixed crowd. I liked it and will be back. read more

Before I describe the horrific experience here I would like to say I have been going to EGO since I was 19 years old. I am now 24 years old and never did I think I would be in such situation in which I would be writing a bad review towards this place. The changes that are being made to this bar is crippling its business. Lets begin with the staff aka THE BOUNCERS THAT CHECK YOUR ID AT THE DOOR. My best friend and I are in line waiting for our ID's to be checked. We find out that I can not get in because my ID is expired (I HAVE PREVIOUSLY USED MY EXPIRED ID THERE BEFORE MORE TIMES THAN I CAN REMEMBER AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM) so then the guy that checked my ID tells me I can't get in. We explained to him that this has never been an issue, but he refuses to let us in, no big deal. I told my friend I have another form of ID that is not expired in my car and we'll go grab it and come back and so we did. When we came back to the line, I showed the same guy my ID and pointed to where it the date of expiration was. Once he saw it, he handed me the ID and said in a very snappy tone "it wasn't unreasonable for him to ask for ID". This is where I get upset because he could have been a PROFESSIONAL and just stayed quiet and kept it moving with his job. I shrugged my shoulders and said whatever it kinda was. So I walk away from the guy and head towards the ticket booth he starts yelling and chasing after me as if he was going to do something. Then he gets in my face and starts screaming at me telling me how he doesn't have to let us in. I ignored him. We usually get in for free because the person who we thought was the owner always let us in (SINCE I WAS 19). So now this other security guard (witnessed the conversation between me and the other guy at the door) who claims to be "the owner" lmao notices we were on the guest list and so now he bangs on the window of the ticket booth (ALMOST HITTING MY FACE) pretty much telling us that we are no longer allowed on the guest list and that we have to pay. Money was never the issue so we paid hoping that we would enjoy our night but I honestly didn't even feel safe in there. BOTH security guards were in my personal space yelling at me over an expired ID. Even though I came back with a proper form of ID. What kind of customer service is that? Your revenue is earned from the people that go there and that's how you say thanks huh? By the time we were inside the club we decided to leave, I didn't feel safe in there because of those two guys. MY FRIENDS AND I WILL NEVER GO TO EGO AGAIN. VERY VIOLENT AND UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF AND THERE IS A HUGE LACK IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more

Ego is disgusting, dirty and trashy to begin with. But the way they handled themselves this 2015 pride was a new low. I paid $20 for an ego bracelet to the club and block party, I waited in the rain for over an hour, just to be turned away at the door, despite the fact that it was far from the 1am cut off time for club entrance. The bouncer was completely rude and mocking, and seemed creepily gleeful as he shined a flashlight in my face and told me that we wouldn't be getting into the club that night. I demanded a refund and was refused, and this was while they were *still* charging people for admitance without telling them that they would not be admitted to the club. Ego failed to tell people buying entrance that the bracelets were not refundable, they also failed to tell people that the bracelet did not give you admitance to the actual club. If there had been full bars outside, not little stands with cheap limited types of alcohol, then being stuck outside wouldn't have been as bad. But with the rain and no tents or covers, it was freezing and miserable. On top of that, there was no rope cordoning off the line for the club. The crowd was swarming at the door and the large amount of cutters were causing arguments and tension in the line, which alcohol exasperated. As a side note, one of the people in my party was under 21 and was given a 21+ bracelet, which is when we realized the club was not checking any guests for IDs and just letting anyone in who had $20. Perhaps if they had properly ID'd customers, it would have cut down on the over capacity issue which was the main cause of the disaster this block party was. The staff was extremely rude especially the bouncers waiting outside to let people in. One of my friends was shoved out by a male security gaurd without any explanation, so of course I followed her and we tried asking what she did wrong and another bouncer continued to scream in my face and ended up putting his hands on me to where I was knocked over and on the ground. I tried doing something about it but another girl security gaurd was holding me back saying "you're not gonna win that fight" but proceeded to let him talk about me literally ASKING ME TO HIT HIM. I then called 911 and my boyfriend after crying. I walked by the club later that night to get to my friends car and the same male security gaurd was STARING at me and then called me ugly. And the dancer floor be aware you won't be able to move from how over packed the club is like if there isn't a maximum amount of people who can fit in this club . Your drink will be mainly on you or on the floor so also so be aware of that . ALSO if your a regular costumer like me you would know that it's the same songs / playlist every week which gets kinda played out like if there playing the same CD over and over . I love Ego so much and always have a good time EXCEPT for the bar tenders. Keira does amazing but I think I got a newbie the other night. I asked for a Miller and she looked very confused. Finally she realized what I asked for and gave me my drink. I asked to open a tab, once again she shows me the same confusion. Some time passes, I order my second beer then My friend and I go to the smoke area for some air. we come back in roughly 10 minutes later. The bartender is waving us down, I go up to her and she says "you know you have a tab open right?" In a rude tone. So I say "yeah... you have my card" her response? "Well most people forget they opened a tab" I HAD TWO MILLER LITES. Did she think I was wasted off two beers in two hours? It was insulting and unprofessional. Not to mention I got charged 14 dollars for two beers. My night would have been perfect if it wasn't for this. Long story short, Ego is wonderful. The queens are talented. I have been going to EGO most Saturday nights. Finally a place to dance to real House music. It is a great change for Providence. The Club is gorgeous and the patio is great place to take a break from all the great beats and dancing. The bartenders are all courteous and handsome and make great drinks. The crowds are pretty much always mature, grown men that come to party, drama free. I have met a few guys there that have turned into more then just a hello too, added bonus! read more

Fraudulent, gay hating piece of shit excuse for a "gay" club. DONT GO AFTER PRIDE....or ever, for that matter. Hugest waste of money I've ever experienced on a night "out." For starters they advertised the shit out of their "Pride block party," so naturally you'd think it's the best drag, music, and dancing ever. Got to the vicinity and it was a sausage fest, as usual for the Providence gay scene. But even worse, the club had a line, which i waited in from about 11 p.m. until after 12:30. See, I was expecting to see a show, as advertised. Not the shity shadow figures twitchily dancing on the far off overly back-lit stage they had set up for their "after pride block party." So around 12:30, I'd made my way to near the front of the line, after over an hour of waiting in the rain after I'd paid the over $20 cover for me and my gf. Then, this bald ass bouncer who could barely pronounce his "r" sounds (go back to kindergarten bitch) came out and shone his huge light in the face of all the eager patrons and told us to fuck off and "enjoy the weather." It was pouring rain. This fucker threatened us (the people waiting in line) and told us to all "disperse." I had waited in line, whereas many the other people just cut straight to the front and the oblivious gay hating bouncers had just let the cutters right in, then shone their bright ass flash lights in the faces of honest people that just wanted to get what they'd paid for. Do yourself a favor and just enjoy all the nice bars in providence and skip this royal piece of over priced shit. read more

love friday and saturday nights here. always a lot of people, music is loud, great atmosphere. the smoking area used to have a few chairs and tables but they stopped doing it for the season I guess but no big. drinks are great and the bartenders are hot. whether you're gay or not, I would recommend this place, everyone has a good time here. read more
