    Birthday Dwight David Eisenhower
    Candi B.

The tour was closed did a self guided tour. There's lots of history from the house, birth place so much history.

I stopped off here late in the day today. It was around 4:15 by the time I arrived and I had seen they closed at 5 p.m. so I knew my visit would have to be a quick one. With that said I was determined to see as much as I could. Every hour on the hour there is a tour, so I had just missed that, with that being said, I was still able to see the outside of the house and visit the museum inside the Visitor Center to hear the history of the site and how it became a part of the Texas Historical Sites. The video is only 7 minutes and is a must see, but I also recommend chatting with the ladies inside because they are very knowledgable about the site and others in the area.

Peek inside the window since we had to wait over an hour to visit inside

Disappointing in that we had to either wait over an hour to be able to see Ike's birthplace home or take a self guided tour, which was to only walk the grounds and peek inside windows. There was nothing to occupy our time, if we chose to wait. Hubby and I were the only visitors on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. After we walked around the house, and made it back to the car, we saw the staff lady sitting on the back porch playing on her phone. Guess whatever was on her phone was more important than showing visitors the historic site.

If your a history buff like I am, you'll enjoy this state historic site of where our 34th President, Dwight David Eisenhower was born. From the 12 minute video, to the period architecture and furnishings to the very sweet lady, Chris, who gave us a guided tour .....it was a wonderful experience! As you can tell much has changed in the 125 years since his birth. What was once a busy neighborhood is now a quiet quaint getaway. It is off the beaten path as another reviewer posted, but it is in no way a challenge to find.....if you can read a map and/or have a navigator, all you have to do is follow those and the numerous signs directing you there and it's really simple to find. I highly recommend to history buffs and anyone else who "Liked Ike"!

Great tour. Great price. Friendly staff. Buy a "I like Ike" button. We were the only ones visiting on the day we were there and it was really nice visit.

(Not their fault) But they are competing for the loudest library award, for sure. I asked him to please keep down. He said 'Oh sure!' In a booming voice . He is sweet, but maybe doesn't get it? The clerks were friendly, helpful and informative...none of that snooty "can't bother to talk to you" attitude here. I was quickly assisted in getting a library card and the nice man gave me a tour of the facility. As homeschoolers, we utilize the public library system quite a bit. I was so happy to see that this county has an online system that let's you request books from other branches. JOY JOY JOY....the angels were singing in my head. What is such a standard library service in California is hard to find here in Texas. But the Grayson County Library System kicks butt and they get it done! So thank you Denison Library for being such a great place for my family to enjoy.
