Drinks were good! Friendly staff and very quick preparation. Guacamole cart comes around and is very good. Salsa is definitely up there. Chips could be a little more salty but no complaints. First time stopping in and it will definitely be a regular. I was a little leary because of the building. It has been totally remodeled and it's very nice. Service was excellent. Now lets talk about the food and Margs - every thing was exceptional. The drinks were delicious and not to sweet. We had regular margs on the rocks and I tried a Paloma which was the best Paloma I've ever had. I will be doing Happy Hour for the Margarita & Chips alone. We got Birra Tacos, Seafood Enchiladas and Chorizopollo. Everything was delicious. Their rice & beans had great flavor. I will pick El Agave over Plaza Azteca everytime. read more

We arrived just before 6 Saturday evening. The acoustics are lacking. The place was so loud we could barely hear each other or the help. I ordered the "Supreme Burrito" with ground beef. It was good but I was expecting the rice and beans to be alongside the burrito instead of inside the burrito where it replaced most of the ground beef. It tasted good. My significant other ordered enchiladas. Neither of us liked the sauce on them and we didn't bother taking the uneaten half of her order home with us. EL Agave is the new kid on the block in the Mexican food world in Fargo. It's in the old Famous Dave's location. I tried it for the first time, and let me tell you it Rocks! I ordered Carne asada... If you love meat, this is the best to order!! I tasted it & it was out of this world! The service was fine as well. They have a nice margarita selection along with a nice tequila option too. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my wife got the steak tacos. We both thought they were great. They have a machine that makes fresh flour tortillas and you could really tell when biting into the taco. In Fargo for a hockey tournament - we got turned away from Applebees (completely empty but wanted us to wait) we had a large group and they gave us a back room with about 5 mins notice! On the positive side, the guacamole made fresh tableside is unique and very cool. Our party enjoyed the flavor of the food and the portion size was good. On the negative side, way too dang loud. The music was blaring and made conversation almost impossible, which was fine for those folks who were focused on their phones across the table from each other. The high, open ceilings don't absorb sound, so the loud music was over the top. Another downside was the long delay between ordering and receiving our food. Plus we received the food in three sets -- first two of us, then a couple minutes later two more and finally, at least 5 minutes later, the final person at our table received their food. As much as we enjoyed the food, we probably won't be back because we didn't enjoy the environment. (The slow service we could probably put up with in a quieter atmosphere that allowed us the pleasure of each others' company.) read more

This was the first time here and I was not impressed. I ordered 1 taco, beef and 1 chicken. The waiter repeated my order 3 times. When it ca.e out they were both chicken. When I told the waiter he shrugged his shoulders and laughed. It really didn't bother me having both chicken, what bothered me was his attitude about it. Great guacamole made at your table. More modern Mexican food than a Chi-Chi's or Old Mexico. If you like high-end tequila, they have it.
