Food was pretty good, service was decent, and the prices were a little high but the portion sizes were pretty big.

We went to the little meat market attatched to the restaurant looking to buy some proteins for home cooked tacos. We found some of our favorite snacks at the front and grabbed those on our way to look at the meats. The first red flag, all of the meat was the same dull, brown color. It looked like it had been sitting there for a while and was going bad. The second red flag was that there was no signage for price or what each meat even was. We stood there at the meet counter and noticed some workers talking to each other in the aisle about 10' from us. They said hello and that was all. Didn't ask if we needed help picking or purchasing anything and didn't even seem enthusiastic when saying hello. There was no one else in the store. While they conversed, we started looking at some sauces they had in the aisle behind us. The third red flag, and what ultimately made me put my snacks down and leave was that there was an odd looking jar of Tostino's on the shelf. I was pretty certain of what I was looking at so I urned the jar to check the date, and sure enough, it had expired in January of 2025!! The very front product! Obviously there is no FIFO (first in, first out) in this store. I pointed it out to my partner and we left without purchasing anything. The overall lack of care they had to help customers, as well as gross looking meat and expired product just made me severely unnerved. I recommend going elsewhere for tacos whether you're making them yourself or eating in house. read more

Great food. Great value. Great service. I wish I'd taken a photo of our "Angel's Chilaquiles" before we devoured them. The one platter was plenty for us both, especially after the complementary serving of chips and warm beans to start us off. Don't be put off by what may seem to be higher than usual prices for local Mexican food or the humble surroundings. Walked in and the manager was sitting in a booth playing phone games. Didn't express any sort of greeting. A young girl who spoke Spanish only came to take our order. We ordered water. It took a long time before we received menus. My bf spoke Spanish. He asked the young girl for straws. She brought napkins. We asked for root beer, we got coke. We were teed off due to the lack of manners from the manager, slow service, mixed up orders, and finally we up and walked out vowing to never visit there again. read more

Good: big big big portion! Big menu with various selection. Fun Facts: 1. I wanted horchata. I was asked big or small for horchata, so I said big and I asked the waiter if they made their in house. He asked me again small or big, I said big. And he brought out a pitcher 2. The fish ceviche was already cooked so I'm not sure if that's their style. 3. I always ask for tons of lemon for my Mojarra Frita and ceviche so we went back and forth for a good few minute clarifying if I wanted 2-5 pieces of cut lemons or 2 whole lemons The food quality was okay. This place is a total dive with great Mexican food! I don't know how many times I've run into this but the hole in the wall restaurants have proven to be some of the best food experiences I've had. To be 100% honest I was surprised to pull into a strip mall parking lot just based off my first impressions of their website because it was super well put together and Yelp pictures. I ordered the mole con pollo (chicken in mole) and holy guacamole was that sauce FIRE. Very flavorful! The rice and beans were a great compliment as well but my favorite were the tortillas. They definitely felt and tasted homemade! I got a melon agua Fresca as well which was sweet and refreshing. I'm docking 1 star because the ambiance is definitely dive-y and service, while very friendly, was just so-so. Great prices, fantastic food. read more

I went here tonight and was frustrated. I ordered a big guac and instead got charged $6 for a guac container that was maybe 4 bites. I ordered the large and they gave me a small. This was whatever. I started eating my burrito and it tasted very good. Until about half way through I bit into a giant bone. I'm thankful I didn't bite wrong as this thing is very hard. Ruined carnitas for me. I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the Four Tacos Dorado and my hubby ordered the Two Enchiladas and Tamale plate. I asked for two chicken and two beef, with no lettuce. The tacos came out in a roll, and I couldn't tell any taste difference in the chicken or beef. They were also smothered in about two inches of lettuce (which I had asked them to hold). Hubby wasn't impressed with his food either. No tamales, so they subbed an enchilada. Not a lot of taste, not really any value with our bill for two mediocre plates coming to over $40. I absolutely love El Angel! It's a restaurant that can be easily missed if you're passing by and isn't promoted very much. I'd consider this a Mexican restaurant "hidden gem" in Springfield. Their food has always been delicious and their prices are very fair. Service has always been friendly and welcoming, although it can be slow. I think it can be slow because they take their time to prepare the food. I'm fine with it if that's the case, but I would like to see them come around the table a little more often just to make sure we don't need anything else (like a refill on something, condiments, more napkins, etc). We never come here if we're starving, because we know that it'll be a bit of a wait. With that being said, we keep coming back because it's worth it for the great flavor and quality of the food. I'm a bit picky with Mexican food, but I can say this has to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area, at least for breakfast. I haven't had anything off their lunch menu yet. One of my favorite things here is their coffee. It's "café de olla" and served on a traditional clay mug/cup. For those that don't know what café de olla is, it's basically "house coffee" that's traditionally brewed on a clay pot. It's supposed to be mixed with cinnamon and sugar. I'm not sure how traditional/authentic they prepare this coffee at El Angel, but it's good and hits the spot. Last time I went, I ordered the chorizo and eggs, which comes served on a big plate with beans and rice. The order includes a side of handmade flour tortillas as well! My wife ordered the chilaquiles and they were bomb! Although, pretty spicy. As you can see from the picture, it comes on a plate with refried beans and bistec (which is basically beef steak). Both plates were delicious! Everything I eat here feels home made as if someone's abuela made it....and most abuelas get down. I really recommend this place for anyone looking to have an authentic Mexican breakfast! Give them a try and see if what you think! Leave a review as well and let me know how good their lunch is! We came with expectations of some decent food and margaritas having read their reviews and their website. My guest and I had some of the most bland Mexican food we have had, and we eat Mexican food out at restaurants weekly. I had carne asada which was dry and unseasoned and fatty. My guest had tacos that were rolled and fried and charred. His meat had no flavor as well. The margaritas were a strange green color and had no flavor of tequila or lime. I am not sure what they were made of. We both did not taste any alcohol. They had a strange flavor and were $15 each. Our dinners were $86 and were one of the worst meals we have had. I'm always in constant search of a really good Molé sauce whenever I'm out of town. The Chicken Molé here is phenomenal. Today, 7/1/23 the young man working as the waiter/cashier brought my "super cubano torta" to me; it did not look like what was described in the menu. When I asked the other worker about it, she stated the kitchen was out of sausage and replaced it with HOT DOGS. The plate was sent back and I'd lost my appetite. Then the red enchillada sauce that is usually on the 2-enchillada plate i've ordered before was replaced by a hell fire-hot brown watery substance that was not ON the FOUR enchilladas, but around them. The enchilladas were dry and inedible due to the spicy-ness. The other employee replaced the plate with the 2-plate enchillada plate I was familiar with. THEN as the young man was ringing me up, he wants to charge me for TWO enchillada plate. Not sure I'll be back. I will attest their Caldo de Res is fantastic though. read more

Tried this for the first time today and it was so good! I had the chilaquiles with carne asada and honestly it may have been the best chilaquiles I've ever had. I was skeptical when I only had the butter knife from the table for my meat, but it turns out it was so tender that it was all I needed! My husband had the eggs and bacon. He doesn't like beans and yet he praised the beans and ate every single speck on the plate. We will definitely be going back again! read more

I haven't had authentic Mexican food in Eugene until now. If you're looking for a family owned shop you found it. It's connected to a meat market and located in a plaza on Main Street! I ordered chilaquiles con huevos, and it was delicious! Definitely on the spicy side but I'm not complaining. No one spoke during breakfast since we were all stuffing our faces with food. The food does take a while to come out since there is only one chef, so be prepared to wait a while. The other dishes were wonderful as well. Most definitely coming back in the future! read more

Came here about 2 years ago and loved the experience. the staff was great and was ran by a nice married couple. we came again today and we were the only ones in the store but the service was very very bare minimum. we were left unattended for a long time and briefly acknowledged. when the food came out, it was burnt and hardened. i needed 2 hands to cut a cheese enchilada because the cheese had almost cemented to nearly inedible. we weren't checked on and then finally in passing we had to stop her and ask for what we needed. this would be expected if the restaurant was packed, but again, we were the only customers. the server was not attentive and didn't seem to care that we were there. it wasn't until we walked outside that we realized that it's not El rancho grande anymore, it's el angel and they made sense because it was night and day different than it had been previously. we hope they improve in these areas. :) read more
