MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT IN TULUM!!!!! I went multiple times during my short, 5 day, stay. I had planned my trip to the T and didn't plan on visiting El Asadero, for some reason a lot of reviews and trip guides overlook this GEM of a place. I was walking into town and was drawn in by the delicious smell, beautiful aesthetic, and spectacle of steak sizzling. You could see the chef working right from the entrance! I recommend their steak and chicken tacos. You can not go wrong! They have a pretty extensive wine list, but I asked for the waiter's recommendation and he suggest the house red wine. Which was flavorful and paired well with my food. They also pride themselves on their steak so please check that out. Best part of this awesome place? They are super affordable none of my meals ran me over $50 (US) and that includes food and drinks for 2 and a generous tip for my fantastic server. Don't pass up on this spot if you're in Tulum!!! read more

El Asadero is a must visit when you are in Tulum! The food is delicious and the prices are very, very reasonable. We called this restaurant at 4pm on a Thursday and asked if they could accomodate 30 people. They made it happen and told us to pop up around 7:30. When we arrived, the tables were ready as promised and ready for us to order. Service was slow in the beginning, but with 30 people all arriving at once (preparing for a destination wedding weekend) you can imagine it was a bit chaotic. Once everyone settled in, drinks were flowing non stop and food came out quickly. I ordered a taco platter which was absolutely amazing. The meat was so flavorful and served simply. Others ordered the ribeyes, which were huge. I couldn't believe it - for one table of 10 people, our bill was less than $250. I highly recommend stopping by here for dinner at least one night while in Tulum! read more

The first thing to note about this location is it's upscale presentation in contrast to many other local spots. This is definitely a "big spender" restaurant but luckily for good reason (and with work -arounds). I went with a group of 5 and was seated in a large dinning room style table on account of the popularity and relatively smaller tables. This, along with the 4 person sharable meal, gave indicators to this being more of a date/small gathering location. That being said, our group was treated with phenomenal service and ultimately delicious food. My earlier mention of "work-arounds" in relation to spending comes from budgeted selections like the Flank Steak meal for $420 MXN which makes for an affordable meat dining experience. My personal order was the flank steak burger which came with particularly American American cheese (if that makes sense), which was initially off putting being on what is to be considered a quality patty, but overall very delicious. I could delve into the specific foods I ordered, but it's best to go and try for oneself, they should have variety to satisfy most peoples palettes. Tacos and burritos affordable and highly recommended. Good work lads. read more

This place came highly recommended by our airbnb host and all the reviews pointed that this place was going to blow me away...and I just wasn't. The steak while cheap, to me, it wasn't good though. I think the cut of my steak wasn't that great. It actually didn't live up to what I'd heard about them being so good with meat. I got the Argentinian cut but it was pretty chewy to me. It was as if I was cutting the steak with the grain and the pieces I was getting were super tough. Mind you, I ordered it medium rare and it felt like well done, but it wasn't, it was odd. So... first get a reservation. This place is popular and for good reason. They have good food at a good price. You can put your name in, but I saw it take over an hour. This is not a fancy steak place and steaks aren't prime cuts. They are on the thinner side, but for the price and portion... I enjoyed it. They are grilled over an open flame in the front of the restaurant. My ribeye was cooked to a perfect medium rare, but it was missing a good char on the outside. We were excited to have a nice dinner here while in Tulum and honestly because of the service this place wasn't worth it. When we sat down I ordered a drink directly from the menu and our server had no idea what it was, we also only saw our waiter twice to take our order and when we had to pay. We came in around 6pm on a stormy night and we're able to walk right in and get seated, without reservations, for a party of two. This was our second trip to Tulum (first being in April) and second time dining with El Asadero. The food and service have been nothing short of outstanding both times. Today we started with the chorizo appetizer. This was served as a small grilled ring of chorizo with fresh tortillas, Oaxaca cheese, and a charred poblano accompaniments. It was delicious and in the States would have easily been double the price! For entrees, my wife had the roasted and grilled chicken, I had the steak tacos. Both were huge portions and cooked to perfection. The dishes are simple fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and understanding toward my very limited understanding of the Spanish language. The owner is gracious and visits every table throughout the night. A bonus is very quick service which is rare in Mexico and with a hip ambience I highly recommend dining here! read more

We were mislead on the price that was told by the waiter and once it was time to pay we were forced to pay double than expected and the manager threaten to call the police instead making the situation better. We were recommended to this restaurant by our Airbnb host and others. We were looking forward to a good meal. However, it was a disappointment for me. My father seemed to enjoy his arrachera steak but my wife was disappointed with her T-bone. It was a very thin slice which just is not cut out for a steak cut, so thin that it dried out. But, my experience was the worst. I got a ribeye and I asked to be medium rare. What I got was a medium rare steak but the center was cold, not from, undercooking, but from an obviously unthawed, frozen or refrigerated meat. Refrigerated meat or steak is fine but, come on, could not they have prepared the meat so that it is ready for a good grilled meat? The staff was courteous and attentive, despite the fact that they were extremely busy. read more

We had the BEST steak, rib-eye. Cooked medium perfectly - still tender, and juicy. The portion was double the size comparing to the steakhouse in the US, my husband and I shared one, it's plenty! The price is only $295 peso. It's cheaper than the best grocery in town. So we didn't buy steak in the grocery store the day after we've been to this wonder place. We've designed if we wanted steak we'll just going to eat at this El Asadero. :) The staffs were very attentive, they didn't charge fees or service apreciation on the bill - which many did we found after pied double tips. Wowie zowie! So good. Our hotel owner recommended we come here and protested when we thought about potentially more expensive options. The house specialty steak was fantastic. Marinated, good char, and full of rich flavor. The house sausage is very nice, reminds of New Orleans style flavors but obviously Mexican chorizo. Hands down the most delicious tacos in town! Fast and friendly service. Location is a bit off the main road but easy to find. We personally tried tacos de asada and pollo.
