My wife and I order takeout 2-3 times a month. For the most part it's been pretty good. However, The last several times over the last 2 months that we've ordered, we get home with the food and it's not our order or half of it is right and other half is wrong. It's Very frustrating having to make multiple trips to back to town to get it right. Check your orders before you leave when picking up. read more

Didn't realize this was a chain but had tried Nu9ve the night before and left pretty unimpressed. I liked El Bracero much more both in terms of ambiance, service, menu selection, and my actual food. I got the jalapeño, onion, and chicken skillet and it came out sizzling and perfectly seasoned. It was delicious. Would definitely visit here again if back town for work. read more

In my opinion this is the best place to eat in all of Madisonville. I have never been disappointed while dining at this restaurant. I have tried a lot of items on their menu and my favorites are: Jalisco special, beef chimichanga plate, tacos Al pastor, chicken taco, and the chalupa. My favorite beverage is the michelada. My favorite dessert items are the fried ice cream but used to be the fried banana before they took it off the menu. The place always has A nice atmosphere and very good customer service. I've dined in and ordered out a multitude of times and have never been disappointed. If you're ever out this way and are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine then this is the right place. The cheese sauce is a must as well. They have kids friendly menu items as well. My children Always get the chicken Nuggets and French fries. read more

I've been to many Mexican restaurants. This by far was the worst. It smelled TERRIBLE the entire time we were there. My only guess is somebody blew up the bathroom and no one had any air fresheners, or the grease trap was backed up. The portions are either wildly too big or extremely too small. read more

This is your average small town Mexican restaurant but was recommended by a couple of locals after telling us the food scene in the area was fairly weak. I didn't particularly care for the salsa here which is unusual for me but even with average salsa I don't know how to stop eating it . The entree I chose (Jalisco Special) was decent. EL Bracero is a chain I think of family oriented Mexican food restaurants. All the items on the menu are authentic Mexican dishes. So don't expect Americanized Mexican food like the kind that is served up in Chicago or Los Angeles. This is the real deal. The waiters are usually fast and friendly. I have had very few problems with service out of all the years I have been visiting. The food is served steaming hot. They serve chips and salsa before each meal. Sometimes the chips are hot and sometimes they are cold. People in this area seem to be okay with getting cold chips with salsa. So if you are from out of town and notice your chips are ice cold don't become alarmed. Its a normal occurrence at most Mexican restaurants in this area. The price is just right. Cheap pitchers of beer daily. Sports on television daily. A great place to hang with your buddies after work. I used to be a huge fan of the food here. Something happened. Maybe its the economy? Maybe they have just been living off the fat of the land and got a bit comfortable. It just isn't the same anymore. There is a lot more competition in town now. El Bracero is O.K. but there are better Mexican restaurants in town. read more

I love this restaurant! I've lived in Mexico, and El Bracero has some of the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico. Their dishes are always fresh. Their service is amazing. My parents live in Madisonville, and we've been going to El Bracero for nearly 10 years. I've never had a bad meal there. I love all their veggie dishes, as well as their shrimp tacos. Always consistent. Margaritas are good too. My parents spend at least one night a week here and each time I visit them, we end up here with great service and good food. Chips fresh and crisp - salsa medium - but more like a 4 day old medium - queso cheese dip was good - ordered steak tacos just cooked flank steak- said sirloin but too tough - no flavor just cooked meat - pico was fresh and flavorful - rice was the worst I ever had with no taste - refried beans were good tasting but were just paste - over spun no pieces or chunks of beans - Coca-Cola was good with right amount of carbonation - fried ice cream was pre-made - rolled in corn flakes and frozen - which make the shell stale and chewy but had good taste with right amount of choc sauce, cinnamon and whipped cream - it's your average authentic Mexican restaurant. read more

Good food, huge selection including the usual Mexican dishes plus some more creative things. The Jalisco special, for example, is a nice combo of steak, chicken, and shrimp with bell peppers and cheese sauce, on a bed of rice. I usually complain that Mexican food isn't hot/spicy enough for me. If you do too, try the tacos al pastor. Pork marinated 24 hours in adobo, then cooked up crisp (almost like thick bacon) and served with onion and cilantro on corn tortillas with lime wedges and a side of very spicy sauce. It won't burn your mouth out, but it's definitely not for wimps. A dozen of us got together there recently, and everyone was pretty happy. Most dishes are about $10, and big enough that you'll probably take some home. read more

When they first opened, this was our favorite place for a meal out. Over the years the food and the service have steadily declined. Since they are no longer the only Mexican restaurant in town, we had pretty much stopped dining here. Recently one of our adult children was in town for a visit and he wanted to dine here. We went in at 6PM and the place wasn't even half full (I can remember when you always had to wait for a table). We placed our drink order and immediately were served our beers, a basket of chips, and salsa. Thirty minutes later our waiter returned to take our food order. We considered paying for our beers and going elsewhere but instead placed our order and stayed......bad decision. After 30 more minutes we managed to flag down our waiter to find out the status of our order. His excuse was that they were really busy (the restaurant is now 2/3 empty). Ten minutes later he brought out our food. We immediately asked for take out boxes and our check. I had ordered chicken chimichanga and it contained less than half the meat that used to be served with that dish. My husband and son weren't terribly happy with their meals either (our chocolate lab ate very well that night). Any other Mexican restaurant in town is far superior to this one and they all have fairly comparable prices. We will NEVER dine in this establishment again. read more
