We stumbled upon this gem visiting Mt.Hood and to our surprise, it was delicious and growing up with a Mexican family and a grandmother who was the best cook ever, I could say that the food was very authentic. We had dinner here both nights that's we stayed in Mt. Hood! Esther was our server both evenings and she was wonderful and makes the best margaritas! You can't go wrong with The nachos and the carne asada burrito! My son had two small rocks that he left at the table, when we turned back to see if they were still there, another server recognized us and the first thing she said when she saw me was, "I have rocks" and she pulls them out of her apron and said, "I have kids and I know what rocks mean to them" that made our day! read more

I went last week and had a great experience. The coconut margarita was to DIE for, probably the best I ever had. The service was quick even though they were pretty busy for a Monday night. We sat outside and it was a lovely night to do so. I am pretty boring with my Mexican food, I keep it simple with a bean and cheese burrito, which was super yummy. We went in to grab some food to go, and the service could not have kinder and more accommodating. My fiancé and I got the Chile Verde Burrito (no cheese), the Burrito Mexicano, Chips with Salsa and Guacamole. We asked right at the tail end of picking up the order if they also had any hot sauce to go by chance, and they sure did! Even asked how hot since they have so many options. It was fast and efficient, we were in and out and they still sat us and gave us some waters to drink out of pure kindness. Oh, most importantly, the food is GREAT. We just had dinner here a few nights ago after a trail. It was the perfect meal after a lot of activity and was DELICIOUS! Everyone enjoy their meal and the value for the amount and quality of food was great! Drinks were amazing and well priced too! Indoor and outdoor seating was great and the weather was great so we sat outside. Family friendly! They seem to be under new management so def don't let the 3.5 deter you! That may have been the best Chile Relleno I have ever had. So fresh, clearly hand made to order, and the sauce...my mouth is watering just remembering it. My wife and I had lunch here while we were skiing. We got a burrito, a salad, two waters, and a beer. I paid a little less attention than I should have when tapping my Apple Pay and then we took our food to the Adirondack chairs outside. The food was ok, no better than Chipotle. Halfway through my burrito, I saw that my credit card was charged for $75, which seemed insane for what we got. I went inside and asked the cashier to show me the breakout of my bill. At a base level, everything seemed in line with what I'd expect at a ski lodge, but they snuck in nearly 20% of junk fees on top (15% mandatory service and 4% credit card). I asked her about those fees and she said that it is in line with other places in the ski village. I told her we had eaten at three other places and this is the first I'm seeing of it. She proceeded to tell me that the owner pays the staff very poorly and they depend on the service fee. At this point, a gentleman who I assume is the manager yelled across the store saying "It's a f***ing ski resort pal, what do you expect?" I responded by saying that junk fees need to be disclosed before the point of purchase per federal law and he said that I'd have to speak with the owner. I asked to speak with the owner and he called him over. I will preface what came next by saying that I later checked the Federal Junk Fee Rule and apparently restaurants are exempt, so I'll give a mea culpa for that misunderstanding, but I do not believe that justifies the owner's subsequent actions. The owner storms in the front door and asks me if I am with the FBI. I said I am not. He asks if I am an attorney, I said I am not. He says that his attorney is the former US Attorney and that he'd call her. I said go ahead and he said "I don't have to do that in front of you." He starts dropping some f bombs and asks what my problem is. I say that I don't appreciate almost 20% being snuck in my bill. He then says "I'm so sick of you people and your bulls***. Do you have any clue what my Uncle Vinny would do to you if he were here?" I ask if he is threatening mob violence and he says "I own this whole village and you are now trespassing on my property." I ask if there is a rule against customers asking questions about their bill, which triggers him to instruct the cashier to give me a full refund. I wasn't asking for a full refund, but I put $10 in the tip jar to make sure the cashier didn't get cut out of my purchase (since he hardly paid her) and accepted the refund. He then asked the cashier for my name, which I gave him. He asked me if I owned a home at the mountain and I said no. He then puts his phone to his ear and says "I have a Marc Miller here and I need to get his lift card deactivated" before walking outside the restaurant. I walked out to tell my wife we should leave and he yells at her "Get out of that f***ing chair! I own that chair!" before calling me a "fake tough guy" and finally walking off. My wife and I resumed skiing and had no difficulty accessing the lifts, which suggests that either this guy faked calling security to threaten me or was laughed off the phone. Either way, after a brief unpleasant encounter we left our free lunch and continued to have a lovely afternoon on the slopes before taking our apres ski business elsewhere. At some point, he said he'd share security tapes with the President of Stratton Mountain, which I hope he'll do to validate my entire account. Better yet, he gets to respond to this review, so please leave a link to the video here for all current and future patrons to see. Make sure the sound is on! Needless to say, whatever this guy owns, whether he's just a tenant in the village, the owner of the whole thing, or the Mayor, we will be taking our ski business elsewhere as he was a terrible representative of Stratton Mountain. read more

Got a couple of al pastor burritos to go for dinner. The vibe on the inside looked fantastic should there not be a pandemic happening. The staff was super nice. The burritos were huge and came with red or green (or both) sauce. They also came with a health scoop of guacamole and sour cream - and some corn slaw. Over a pretty good burrito. My husband and I dropped in on a Friday for lunch and for a beer on our way to Mt Hood. The bartender refused service to me because she thought my driver's license was fake. She took my husband's and my license for over 5 minutes to "look at", later asked for a credit card or a debit card to make sure the name in my license matched my credit/debit card. I ended up giving her even my Costco membership card, in an attempt to get service. After all the trouble, I felt very uncomfortable having her taking my driver's license, my debit card, and my Costco membership card to the back to "make sure" my documents weren't illegal. She had NO INTENTION on serving us. On today's society, as latina, walking in a bar and being treated like that by a white female bartender was very discouraging. The Oregon DMV must be making fake looking driver licenses in her mind. DO NOT recommend this place. Racist vibes. read more

Hello, mainly the 3 stars is because $$$$$$$. The food itself is decent. My wife and I bought 2 different Burritos so we could split them. The menu was a little deceiving. It showed burrito, beans, rice....etc. We assumed those were side items on the plate with sour cream, salsa, guac... Kinda like most restaurants serve. We got some lettuce and tomato. They were $18 & $19. These should have been about $12 at the most. The table next to us had fajitas and they looked pretty good. I would go back, but I would definitely order something else and ask more specifically what is on the plate. read more

Without a doubt this is a hole in the wall restaurant that you must try. The Mexican food is as good as it gets. But the staff and service is the best. I loved their food from 2016 to 2029. sadly there is new ownership. I bragged to my boyfriend about the food so yesterday we stopped there after hiking Paradise Loop. I ordered the enchiladas as they have been my standard order. First I will say that the new owners son who was our waiter was very nice but unfortunately it didn't make any difference in the food he served. My chicken enchiladas contained very minimal meat. I would say no meat but there was a few pieces. The enchiladas previously swam in sauce. They are served with a few tablespoons at best. We paid $18 for bland rice and beans. I spoke with the owners son about how wonderful the food used to be but all he did was apologize. He did not offer to fix the food or discount our bill. I will not be returning and I have told my daughter who also loved the food to avoid going to this restaurant in the future. I'm am very sad as it was once my favorite Mexican restaurant. read more

No character There were longtime employees I didn't see? Sat outside in the back seating area In the past I usually ordered the pork belly tacos. My last experience was poor. Sooo much fat This time no better. Super fatty pork belly, not cooked properly. They've added an odd sauce on the pork belly, not a fan. Rice and beans barely warm. A couple of shreds of carrots and marinated onions when you open one up, so unimpressive. If you include marinated onions on the menu give me more than two pathetic pieces. I had the PLEASURE of dining for lunch here. I travel full time, so I rely heavily on HONEST reviews when looking for restaurants. And MY review is honest as well. All staff were wearing masks, had signs and hand sanitizer at the door. They even kept track of the "used" pens. I felt very safe. I asked for Nachos, because I didnt see them on the menu. But the owner (I presume) chimed in and was happy to have them made. I added chicken. My goodness... they were amazing. I got the "small", and the portion was huge! Nice big chunks of fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, olives, and just enough cheese. But I was EVEN MORE impressed when I brought home a bag of tortilla chips and a generous to go container of both red salsa and salsa Verde that I ate for dinner, along with the rest of the nachos. I ordered a enchilada plate and it got to me I swear within 5 minutes. Fricken what! Yeah I barely had to wait. Chips and salsa were brought to me right away when I sat down and the waitress didn't even right down my order with a pen and pad and got it right, having memorized it! Great local spot! We have been customers of El Burro Loco since it's inception decades ago, dining there 1-2 times a month. Sometimes even more. Out of town guests always asked to go there. We had birthday and anniversary celebrations there. Then it sold in 2020. We were NOT fans of the new food or staff/management and it just recently transferred hands again we were very hopeful it would improve. So after a very hard, hot day of working on the house we decided to head up to Welches, looking forward to margaritas and beer as a reward. Arrived and there were 3 tables seated. Ordered drinks (told the blender was broken - no blended margaritas so I opted water), were given chips, ordered dinner. All good. 30 min later... one other table arrived. Food delivered to one table (other 2 had food when we arrived). At 45 min someone from the kitchen brought out my husbands meal and said "enjoy your dinner". We assumed he would be back with mine. Hubby also needed another beer by this point. 15 min passed and no one came to the table. Or even close enough to flag down. I joked that he wasn't getting a beer to which he retorted that apparently I wasn't getting my dinner. We shared the tacos, which were very dry. At this point we had been there going on 90 min. No one ever came back to the table so we were preparing to leave. I went outside to the restroom (exterior of the building) and came back to my carne asada on the table. The server came by - I told him I didn't want it and we were ready to leave to which he replied that he would "give me a discount". He brought the check and it was a 15% on my meal. WTF? I went to the counter, told the server I was not paying for it. He removed the charge with no argument or further discussion. Service was so bad he probably should have comped the entire meal (tacos and a beer) but I didn't ask. Just paid and left. Unbeknownst to me my husband, who had gone out the back door and was in the car, had boxed the carne asada. Tried to eat it the next day and it was so tough it could not be chewed. Offered it to my 2 dogs (who eat anything and everything) and they wouldn't eat it. The only reason I am giving it 1 star is that 0 is not an option. We are heartbroken - EBL was one of our favorite restaurants. Sadly this was one of, if not the absolute worst dining experiences we have ever had, and we eat out a LOT. read more

I had heard of this place from friends but every time we rode by we were on way home from mountain or Bend and wanted to get home. But TODAY I made a plan to hike and specifically come here. And SO well worth it. The food was exceptional! Meats all cooked deliciously and quantities plentiful! Don't forget to try all the hot hot hot amazing salsas! I'm here on vacation and it seems like the choices for restaurants are a bit limited in this area. We saw a sign for "wild boar tacos" and was intrigued. The portions are really nice. We gave it a shot for lunch. We ordered: 1. Shrimp fajitas - the shrimps were pretty nicely grilled. Medium sized and popped in your mouth. It was pretty tasty. Did 2. Quesadilla with smoked pork - smokey good shredded pork and very nice portions. 3. Bowl of tortilla soup - a bit salty for my taste. It had a tartness to it and could have been better if it wasn't too salty. 4. Fish of the day with soft tacos - the fish of the day was halibut. The meat is pretty dense and it was filling. If you like fish that is more firm (less buttery) and "meaty", this would be good. It had a good grilled flavor. D They give you complimentary chips with salsa. The salsa is good. We polished off 2 trays of chips with it! The plates were between $10-$14. Seemed like the place was family owned so I like supporting places like this. read more
