Delicious tacos and margaritas. They even have mezcal drinks which I absolutely love. The staff was also kind enough to substitute mezcal into drinks that otherwise typically have tequila in it for me. Overall the staff is friendly and helpful. Basically a supreme fajita setup, not a bad thing. All of the meats. Carne asada, shrimp, chicken, chorizo. A jalapeno (full spicy), onions, cactus, Mexican cheese and more. I thought it was pretty solid. Very nice grilled meats in the stone bowl. Carnitas tacos were tender and moist, well received by wife. Drinks were way too sweet. I got the mezcal tamarind drink and wife got a fancy margarita. Kid / family friendly. Solid, nice setup. I lived in Texas for 5 years, so you can say I'm a little picky. The food at this location is just not anywhere near as good as it is at the Vancouver location. While service is prompt and attentive, it was very disappointing that the chips are only served with salsa, and not salsa and bean dip like the Vancouver location serves. I got my favorite (pork carnitas chimichanga, wet style), and there was a LOT of gristle and fat in it. I've never experienced that at the Vancouver location. We also got the taquitos appetizer, and it was just not as flavorful as the Vancouver location. I was also excited to see various aquas frescas available, but they were out of both varieties I and my dining companion wanted. They were also out of my dining companion's first entree choice, so that was another disappointment. The ambiance is great. Very colorful and bright, open and inviting. The super attentive server checked in with us frequently throughout the busy Saturday night dinner hours. They were between 80% and 90% capacity, though the bar was empty. 3.5/5 for food. Our total dinner was $68.22. -Zero Proof Tamarindo, $5.77: It was lighter in tamarindo base and a bit too sweet for my taste. -Fish Ceviche, $17.95: It is lime-based and okay in taste. I was disappointed the fish was mined instead of cubed. It didn't come with any chips. There was too much-chopped tomato, which overpowered the minced fish. -Combo 3, $19.50: You can pick any three items and protein. We got one chicken taco, one chicken tamale, and one pork tamale. The tamales were wrapped in corn hush. There was not much masa on the tamales and not much flavor on either chicken or pork. My husband loved the chicken taco and said he would order just the taco next time. -Comala Steak, $25: This was the night's winner. My husband and I both enjoyed it. It was cooked just right and served on a sizzling hot plate. We didn't care much for the pickles, onion, and sauce that came with it. My husband said he would definitely come back here with me since it's only 4 miles one way from where we live. He also said he would order the taco and Comala Steak again because he liked them tonight. I would return to check out other items on the menu but would not reorder what I had tonight (virgin tamarindo, fish ceviche, chicken, and pork tamales). I decided to have lunch here prior to a Yelp Elite event on the extremely rare occasion that I'm in Happy Valley. The food here is pretty good, and above the average Mexican American local spots. The salsa is flavorful, as were the beans and rice and tacos. The gluten free options on the menu however, aren't correct, and I'm not sure what they're based on. Some items say gluten free in the description, but aren't labeled as GF with their logo. Others (the combo meals w only corn products) should be gluten free based on every other Mexican restaurant experience I've had, and didn't give me a reaction. The inside is beautiful and has plenty of colorful artwork throughout. The downsides are: the service wasn't great and they had plenty of 'cooks in the kitchen'. I was here at like 2:30 on a weekday with enough waiters prepping for the dinner rush and I didn't have silverware for 10 mins or so after I received my entree, and wasn't checked on during that time. I had to waive one of the other waiters down. Another downside, they use super cheap well tequila. One of those you don't even recall the brand, brands that I'm sure will give you a headache. Overall, if I'm ever in the area again, I would return just order a call liquor and bring your own silverware. read more

Previously had good take out experiences and decided to take some family there and walked away completely embarrassed. Server seemed very snarky when taking orders in a trying to be funny way but came across as a little confrontational. Example interaction Me: can I get a taco salad with no meat but add sour cream Server: we'll have to charge you extra for sour cream, is that ok? Me: yes that's fine A plate comes out with beans on the bottom, chopped up lettuce, and I kid you not about 7 shreds of cheese on top. Me: doesn't this come in a tortilla shell? I've ordered it before. Server: sometimes they make it in the shell and sometimes not. Me: so can I get mine in the shell? Server: consulting with coworker, comes back and says I can give you a shell on the side if you want. Me: obviously displeased agrees to it and a shell comes on another plate. I then ask if I am paying 17 dollars for beans and lettuce on a plate can I at least get a reasonable amount of cheese. Server: sorry we have to charge you extra for that, is that ok Me: sure that's fine. My husband: crazy how that little bit of extra cheese costs as much as the 18 percent tip on a party of 6. I'm rating this restaurant a little higher than I normally would because they're newly opened and I've only visited once. The restaurant is clean and colorful with a good amount of seating. The staff is friendly and attentive. We tried several things on the huge menu to get a taste of different things here. We started with the promotion of table side fresh guacamole and also ordered tortilla soup and the chips and salsa. The guacamole wasn't the most flavorful even though we asked for it "spicy". I felt the same way about the tortilla soup, not a lot of flavor but still ok for a starter. The chips and salsa are great! We ordered the chili rellanos and chicken fajitas as main dishes. Both were good but still on the bland side of Mexican dishes. We then made the last minute decision the try the deep fried cheesecake. Unfortunately it wasn't good at all. Very soggy and rubbery pastry on the outside with an odd tasting filling. We are big Mexican food fans from local taco carts and big restaurants to authentic foods throughout Mexico. The flavors here just weren't at the top of our list. However, we'll likely give it another try sometime. My family and I dined here the week after thanksgiving and we had the most amazing experience despite having a crazy one year old and out of town parent in laws to impress. Well needless to say, everyone left very happy. Our server Yvette was outstanding. She really went out of her way to go above and beyond. Really great customer service. The whole staff worked cohesively together to make sure all needs were met. This is something I really don't see anymore at other establishments. A lot of places are order at the counter and no one checks on you..that's the norm these days. Not here though. Amazing service. We were treated as if we were family in their own home or better! The food was great as always. We ordered the table side guacamole, fajita trio, kids quesadilla, enchilada suizas and a large burrito (which my father in law ate the whole thing! I've never seen this so it must've been good.) At the end of the meal they sang happy birthday to my husband and MIL and brought out delicious cheesecake rolls with a classic sombrero for them to wear. Enjoyed meeting friends here for a birthday celebration. The food is delicious. Fresh guacamole made at the table, choice of mild, medium or spicy. Our waiter knew what he was doing. So yummy. We enjoyed the Tacos Tecoman, our friends had Birria Taco Salad and Chile Verde. I knew Casa Colima did the birthday celebration thing with the Sombrero and birthday song so I told our waiter we were there for a birthday. It's rough. The service was not friendly, not welcoming, downright awkward, to be honest. When we first came in the hosts was on the phone which is fine of course, another girl came up and offered to help us, but she did not speak any English and when my husband asked for a booth even in Spanish she was still confused. Another server came up and took us and seated us right away. We had to ask for water three times before it arrived. Our server had a very odd style, I would say it's more of a personality thing, but the only item that was actually placed directly in front of us was our meal delivered by somebody else. Our server would drop each item at the very edge of the table where we had to reach for it. Any refills were left Desperately close to the edge, which obviously is a method to save them from an additional moment at your table, but it was just very cold and impersonal. It certainly was not a special treatment saved just for us as we did notice the server had the same method at every table. It might save them a moment, but if you're not willing to connect with your patrons on any level, the service industry may not be for you. The food was absolutely nothing special or unique, it's the same food you can get it everywhere else. I had the chili Reno, taco And enchilada. I had looked at the menu before arriving, and other photos, people shared, and I requested shrimp in my taco, and the server did not oblige. Even for an extra price I was denied a shrimp taco, no alternatives were offered. I was required to get chicken, pork or beef. I'm not allowed to pay extra even though other people clearly had pictures of the shrimp taco with the same combination in photos previously posted. Another part that really ground my gears was being forced to get chicken which normally is my preference, but they only use dark meat so I was gagging because I am not a fan of chicken thighs and it was an overwhelming, strong, dark meat flavor. My husband played it safe, and he got a Pepsi, which tasted like Pepsi, thank goodness! He got a chicken fajita burrito, which was surprisingly made with chicken breast, and had good flavoring like fajitas should. I went wild and had ordered a Long Island iced tea, it was very sweet and missing the Long Island if you know what I mean. Bottom line.........it's very basic, better than Taco Bell, but if you have somewhere you already like or even close to authentic, don't make the change. read more
