Like, to put this in perspective, this was my absolute favorite place to go to in college. I loved their queso, and their chicken nachos which are literally just nachos and chicken covered in their delicious queso blanco. And I went back here ten years later and it was literally just as delicious as I remember it being. I shoveled so many chicken nachos in my mouth omg soooo good lol. My sis and I used to come here so much in college and it was like stepping back in time (for this very limited purpose, it was a good thing). Service is always good, and very kind. And the ambiance is always very chill. Ah, I know I'll be making some more stops back in rock hill just for some chicken nachos lol. It's a bit of trek from charlotte when I literally have no other reason to go there, but I'm coming back just for chicken nachos lol! read more

I met a friend at El Cancun for dinner on my drive home from Ohio to Jacksonville. Rock Hill was my halfway point where I spent the night to break up the long trip. Bonus, the restaurant was 10 minutes from my hotel. I started with a medium mango Margarita. Wow, the medium was larger than I expected. And I could actually taste a little alcohol which was a sign I would only need one lol! I ordered a quesadillas with shredded chicken. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. And there was plenty of it! I could only eat half. It was served with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. Our server was friendly and helpful. And she checked in on us regularly. On our road trip back to GR we wanted to swing through our old town of Rock hill to see what the years have done and get a bite to eat. I'm glad we chose to sit down here. The staff was very attentive and friendly, I got the enchiladas suizas which was wet before to die for, everyone else smashed on their food as well. If you're visiting or even just driving through give this mom and pop restaurant a try and I doubt you'll regret it. read more

We went for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. They offer many combo choices. My burrito came smothered in cheese sauce which I don't recall having on other burritos. Overall the meal was good. El Cancun is an old favorite of mine. I visit there often when visiting Rock Hill and Charlotte. The food is great, the staff is friendly, and the prices are good. The atmosphere is relaxed. I wish they had a larger lot so more parking could be available, but we did not have trouble finding any. If there's an event in town one weekend, it could be harder to find parking. It was busy, which was to be expected, but our wait was only 30 minutes. Our waitress was a familiar face who kept us smiling the entire time. Our drinks and food were plentiful and we all had food to take home. If you're ever driving through or staying over, be sure to give them a try. read more

I've been to many of these restaurants over the years. They have sprouted up all over the Charlotte, Gastonia, & Rock Hill area. They are good and that's why they keeping growing and they have staying power so they are doing things right. First you start with the basics, good quality ingredients, fair prices and and professional staff. Sometimes you just want a couple of tacos. So many places want you to buy their combo specials where they add the rice and beans. Here you can order a la cart and get chicken, beef for pork for $2.50. Fun lunch experience with friendly service, outstanding margaritas (strong yet delicious), and very tasty foods. This place is awful. Ordered a taco salad and the meat tasted boiled. It was suppose to be fajita but it was disgusting. I did try to add salt and pepper. Never again!. The chicken tenders were supposed to be grilled but looked boiled as well. The hot salsa was spicy with no flavor. And to end this the bathroom was atrocious. read more

El Cancun set the bar for great Mexican food in the Rock Hill area many years ago and maintains it quite effortlessly today in the face of other area eateries that try really hard to imitate them, but can't hit the mark. I dare you to find waitstaff who are more friendly, efficient and astute than the lovely folks here. El Cancun has been a longstanding establishment for many, many years, and that's not by mistake. They are as good as it gets as far as I'm concerned. Some weeks I eat here every single day, it's simply that good, and the menu is that expansive and delicious! Though many try to imitate them, there is but one El Cancun, and if you've been here before, you know exactly what I'm talking about. We walked in to another place nearby, craving good Mexican and we waked out after not liking the atmosphere, and the bathrooms. (A good indicator) so we came here seeing a full parking lot. (Generally a good sign) We ordered and my daughters meal came rather fast. Then we waited, and waited.... then after 40 min. we got the hot plates but no toppings, and then had to get up and ask for our tortillas. I'm from Rock Hill and have been here numerous times with my family. It's usually pretty good but this last time we went our service was a little hectic. We were seated at a table in a very poor location (kind of in the middle of a walkway and blocking space in a booth behind us). Also by the time we got our food we were never given silverware. It seemed like the host forgot to set some out and even after that none was given to us when our plates came. The food was alright, I got a grilled chicken taco salad and it just kind of lacked flavor. But I know I've had a lot of dishes from here and it's usually better than how this last time was. After the El Cancun on Carowinds closed recently, I was heartbroken. Where in the Queen City could I possibly get a burrito and a Corona? I mean, Charlotte's totally a desert of Mexican food. El Cancun is one of the better ones with the usual warm chips and cold salsa. Lots of booze options, including the ubiquitous Corona and also Dos Equis and margaritas and the like. I've taken to the Chorizo Pollo. A large flattened and grilled chicken breast topped with crumbled chorizo and a large dose of white queso. It will come with guacamole salad unless you ask for rice and beans. Is it authentic? Hell no! Is it tasty and inexpensive? Very much yes. read more

Their margaritas are pretty good and I know plenty of people who go just for the cocktails. This time it was a lot busier and the host didn't seem like she was very familiar with the moral procedures for seating people.
