Do not eat here, service OST of the time is terrible, food is cold half the time and when we walked in tonight, a server was scrolling on her phone glanced over at us, ignored us and kept scrolling. We went last night to order takeout. We got home and our order was wrong. I ordered a quesadilla, we did not get. My husband ordered ground beef burrito, it was chicken. I'm not sure what it was they gave me in place of the quesadilla, but I found hair in it. It wasn't busy. I will find a different restaurant next time. Food is good. Disappointing to see a restaurant as dirty as this one. We were seated at a dirty table and menus that are sticky, gross and need replaced. You have to use multiple menus to decipher the menu items. Edit...food use to be good. It seems to be headed down. They won't be in business very long if they don't address the basics. read more

It was packed when we arrived, waited 30 minutes, worth the wait. We ate at the bar. Ana waited on us which I highly recommend if you ever there on Friday or Sunday. Ana gave us the up most amazing customer service. We ordered the guacamole & chips, cochinito tacos, queso fundido, trio tacos. Food was pretty authentic in flavors. I requested spicy salsa and Ana brought us the best Habanero and Chile del arbol salsa which I absolutely loved. Margaritas are delicious. Ana THANK YOU!! THANK YOU for your super wonderful services. I was looking for something a little bit lighter so I got the taco salad al pastor. I just stopped in and ordered to go. It was ready in just a couple of minutes and I was back on the road. There wasn't really anything special about the salad. It is your typical American taco salad but at least the al pastor gave a little more flavor than the typical ground beef taco style. Better than any fast food drive thru options and just as fast. I'm not sure I would be as motivated to dine in, though, from what I saw just based on the menu. read more

The food is bland and matches an unappealing presentation. The waitress was ok, but fairly elusive. The burrito was tough to cut with a fork, but we had to ask for a knife. The chimichanga was not crispy and delightful. It was full of dry chicken and little else. We left half our dinners on the plate and turned down a to-go box. Wife was starving when I got home so we packed up and pulled into the Cantarito. It is a strip mall, but folks, this is LaPorte, so there aren't a ton of options, and I'm not gonna judge. We have been here a couple of times and the staff is nice and it is right down the road so I like it. Wife wanted a Cantarito to drink and the waiter was happy to whip one up for her. The draft XX is fresh, righteous. Chips and salsa were OK. I had the carnitas and was totally satisfied. Wife had the alambre, which is delicious but beware the evil brown sauce with that dish! Wife hit it hard with a bite and I thought she was having a stroke. Kind of spicy but delicious. We recommend this place. read more

Probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in Laporte the service and the food is amazing we could probably eat here every day. I think currently they're only serving beer and margaritas which their margaritas are amazing they have many flavors and they're closed on Mondays! read more

Wonderful food & service. We ordered the house specials: Chimichangas with steak & Flautas with chicken. The first thing we noticed was the artistic presentation of the dishes, which is not found at your typical Mexican restaurant. The flavors were excellent & portions just right but very filling. This place has a slight upscale feel for Mexican dining, which gave nice vibes to our dining experience but prices are still good range. The margaritas, chips & salsa were also good. When my mom said "Let's go to El Cantarito" I thought .....good Mexican in LaPorte? Sure mom! Well....I was wrong ! I have had carnitas in Mexico and Little Village and Pilsen in Chicago. I love Mexican food. These were DELICIOUS !!! and the rice~ yum. So many restaurants, even those in Mexico, have a icky rice. The service is excellent as well. If you like Mexican food, definitely try this place out. You will not be disappointed. read more

From Chicago and stopped into this restaurant given all the good reviews. Wow is all I can say. Great food, service and inviting restaurant. The host was very friendly and attentive and the place was very clean. We had steak and chicken tacos along with the shredded chicken tortilla soup. All were exceptional especially the steak tacos and tortilla soup. The steak was lean, tasty and without the fat and grizzle one can sometimes find in tacos. The tortilla soup was huge and could be a meal in itself. I would highly recommend both. This place may not look like much from the outside as it is in a strip mall but it is putting out surprisingly good food. It is also a good value as items are reasonably priced and chips and sauce are free. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

My husband and I went to El Cantarito for dinner. We had a 40-minute wait for a table. While we were waiting, my husband asked at the front counter if they took reservations. He was told, "It depends who you talk to." Some minutes later, a person with a family party came up to the front counter to complain about how long they had been waiting. The female manager was rude to the customer and told him it wasn't the restaurant's fault because one of the large parties who had been seated ahead of them had a reservation. (Either you take reservations or you don't...and you let it be known to all customers.) As the complaining party was leaving, one member of the party came up to the counter and slammed down a large strawberry margarita. Some spilled out on the counter. A male employee picked up the glass of margarita and threw the rest of it on the customer, with spillage going on my husband and myself. We were then seated for dinner. We assumed the employee had been fired, but he was not. He continued working as we were eating our dinner. Our dinner was comped, but the manager never made an effort to apologize to us. We will never return. This restaurant is definitely mismanaged. In contrast, we have never had any problems at the El Cantarito restaurant in Michigan City. read more

Went there tonight (5-23-2020) and ordered traditional mexican food. Food was average; not great. Chips were old. Found out that El Catarito in La Porte does not have a liquor license and the drink they call a Margarita is made with wine not tequila. The other El Cantarito's have tequila; but not La Porte. I have eaten inside the restaurant and got carryout twice from the La Porte location. I have also eaten inside the Michigan City location which was much better than the La Porte location. When dining in I waited 15 minutes at my table waiting to be acknowledged that we were there to have dinner. The food is good, and it is a shame that the service does not match the food. When ordering carryout my order was wrong both times that we ordered. I let the first time go thinking I will give them a second try in the future, but yet again my order was wrong the second time in a roll. I guess I can no longer patronize this location which is a shame since the back of the house seems to be doing their jobs while the front seems to be lacking. read more

We had a horrible dine in experience, and stopped sinning in. We call in takout, and now that is going down hill. Tonight I stopped by to pickup, and my order was messed up. So I sent it back. Was pretty excited to try this place based on friends reviews. We waited about 30 minutes for a table. The service was really good and friendly. 2 Stars for staff and service. The chips and salsa were just plain bad for our taste. We ordered the flautas, server recommended getting the pork and chicken to try both and decide which I liked best. The chicken I got 1 of and the pork 2 of. The pork tasted as though they had dumped a whole pound of salt on and then barely cooked it. Totally inedible. The rice and beans were also bad. I'm not sure what they did to the rice to make it taste so bad, but it was also drowning in salt and had some kind of off flavor, no idea what flavor it was, but it was powerful and slightly rancid. Basically paid $13 for 1 flauta that was mediocre at best. My wife got the Chimichanga and it was soggy and oily. Also unable to eat the rice and beans. The prices are also extremely high for the portions and the location. read more

I don't ever do reviews.. but this order pissed me off. We ordered online at El Cantarito in LaPorte.. We've been there 2 times before and thought it sucked but thought we would give them one last try... I got the mahi tacos, dry as can be.. the carne asada came with no pico de gallo or torilla shells(that we ordered) so we had to use our own. And my daughter hated her chicken taco, said it was worse than taco bell (which she also hates and we dont eat at) We wanted to give them one last shot and they blew it miserably. Not to mention it said the order would be ready in 45 minutes my boyfriend got there on time and had to wait 15 extra minutes. read more

Ordered some food from here tonight and it was their first day opened in a few weeks due to all virus stuff. Food was good like normal, but the chips and salsa were not good and they are usually great. Chips were super greasy and so much so it overwhelmed their taste and the salsa was NOT as good as usual....tasted mostly just like tomato sauce....no chunks of onion, or cilantro or chile pepper in the salsa...it looked and tasted like low end quality salsa for sure and this place normally has GREAT salsa. But, that was not the case tonight at all. Maybe it was just an off night or maybe they had someone inexperienced making it today...I hope this is not the new normal because if it is, I'm gonna have to find a new Mexican restaurant. read more

The food was delicious and super affordable it was only 25 dollars to feed three people (normally 35) but that's a good deal if we were to go to somewhere else and eat it would cost us atleast 50 to 60 dollars the food was also very filling and definitely worth the money! Definitely a 10/10 read more
