Great place I loved the atmosphere there are a lot of steel cactus art pieces around amongst other pieces. The service was great except my brother ordered corn tortillas and they gave him flour. He also ordered bell peppers and jalapeños extra but they forgot the jalapeños. I don't know why but almost every Mexican restaurant does him that way so it's not just this one. They don't have draft beer, and there prices are too high. The food tastes generic. It kind of bland mexican food. Manufactured so to speak.

Fabulous! We drove by and were taken in by the restaurant's happy exterior. The horse and decorations caught your attention. We promptly turned the car around to have a late lunch at El Carraton. We were given a friendly welcome by the host and seated immediately. The waiter promptly took our orders. The chips and salsa were free flowing. The meals came out fast too. It was just what we were looking for in the afternoon for a late lunch. The meals were delicious and our waiter stayed on top of all of our requests. We ordered the Fish Tilapia without pineapple sauce and it was cooked perfectly. We also ordered from the vegetarian menu. They had lots of options. I really liked the beans and rice had just the right amount of cheese. It wasn't drowning in cheese so you could enjoy the flavors. The restaurant is clean and well taken care of by a friendly staff. The Chicken fajita lunch special was the best thing brought to the table. Two of us shared it and had leftovers besides. The kids pizza, taco, and taco salad were a bit of a disappointment. My son said the pizza was so-so and to be honest it didn't look that great. The taco meat looked like a watery purée. I felt bad for them. The restaurant has nice colorful accents, but the air is greasy. You know that haze from lots of frying. Might need to clean up or replace the kitchen ventilation system. Our waiter was fantastic! He kept my kids going with chips and salsa which was really tasty. I forgot my cell phone so he rushed out to our cars before we pulled away. He saved me a ton of stress that day! I came here for a late lunch with my boyfriend and I ordered the steak fajitas while he had the carne asada. The food was delicious but it took a while for us to get our food. The chips weren't as fresh as they weren't warm but they were greasy and seemed kind of old. The service wasn't the greatest as we had to wait a while for our drinks and when drinks came, they'd just bring another cup instead of taking the original cup back for a refill. Firstoff, I'm super duper pleased to be seeing some WInchester Yelp action on the charts. I've been going to El Carreton since they opened several years ago at their strip mall location. They have consistently served delicious authentic meals with friendly smiles and quick service. I always find myself overindulging in the chips and salsa with little room left over for tasty entrees like chile rellonos, beef burritos and tacos. I'd also like to give their margaritas a well-deserved nod. A few wild nights and rough mornings have led me to despise tequila but their salted margaritas are an exception to the rule. read more

Underwhelming, standard rural Indiana Mexican fare but 3 stars instead of 2 just because of the purpose it serves...Winchester has very few restaurants. Even fewer are open for lunch. So this place can get pretty packed. We stopped by last weekend and it was a 20 minute wait to get inside. Food isn't bad but nothing special. Unremarkable enchiladas and arroz con pollo. Chile colorado was decent but not spicy. Service was mixed depending on the person. Owners seemed nice but our waitress rarely came around. Had to flag her down at least once. Wouldn't seek this out but my dad's mom lives over by Winchester so at least there's somewhere to eat when we visit her. read more

Stopped in tonight for dinner with my boy. As always chips and salsa are awesome ordered the extra cheese dip and also excellent. Boy ordered Ricardo's burrito one of his favs. I ordered the Taco Salad Acapulco which is one of my favs. Comes with chicken and shrimp and I always trade out the bell peppers for jalapeños peppers to spice it up. This one my fav restaurants and usually am disappointed when I eat at other Mexican restaurants that can't compare. For being "small-town Winchester," this place is truly a hit with just about everyone. When transferring the restaurant over from a once "chicken dinner" spot - they did a superb job. It's rare you'll find this place not busy, but the staff are wonderful and the food is even better. I don't know what's so different about this place from other mexican restaurants, but I promise there really is a difference. Also, the dishes are big, but very reasonably priced. Little joint in middle of nowhere Winchester continues to surprise - despite 2 previous strong reviews from me. It's been over 2 years since my last review on this place. Pops celebrating his birthday chose his favorite nearby Mex for lunch, so of course, we went! He selected 1/2 order of the Nachos Real and I the Cali Burrito (you can only get it off the lunch menu. Did this place change their recipe for the table salsa?! They must have. It was fantastic and I don't recall it being so delicious previously. They always have really good food. Even on lunch they are fast. The prices are decent. I usually spend $13 after tip at lunch. The salsa is really good too. It seems like it's made fresh daily. Have never had to wait to be seated. Portion size is pretty large too. read more

Just had dinner here again. The food is still tasty, usually. Service is not the greatest, though the host and management is great, attentive, and friendly. Our server tonight left a lot to be desired. I ordered unsweetened ice tea, my spouse and 2 kids wanted water w/ lemon. She brought my spouse & I water w/lemon, and the kids just water. When she came back to take our orders, I reminded her about the tea. Spoiler alert: I never received the tea. My spouse was brought a fresh glass of water when it got about halfway down, but none of the rest of us were ever refilled. Salsa bowl sat empty on the edge of the table. Normally, they'd ask of you wanted more, but not tonight. It wasn't terribly busy when we first arrived either. I ordered Steak Monterey medium rare. It arrived about half an hr later, well done. The rest of the table didn't get their food til 10 minutes later. I told the server just to cancel my order, bc I didn't want to wait another half hr for dinner. The manager came over and asked if he could remake it. He was really friendly and accommodating. I went ahead and let them make another one. it came 10 minutes later, piping hot. it was about a medium, but I took it. Had a good flavour, but a lot of it was gristle. No offer of steak sauce, and the server never checked back in on us til the end of the meal. Everyone else's food was tasty, but I don't think I'll g steak next time..Probably tacos Paisa. Oh- one more thing-fish tacos come dressed like a normal American taco...cheese, sour cream, lettuce, tomato...no cole slaw/cabbage, lime crema, or anything remotely like a real fish taco. read more
