A quiet little place tucked away in the streets of El Born. The host/owner is the sweetest, genuinely trying to make your visit pleasant and fun with great service and suggestions. The food was very tasty and delicious. I wasn't super hungry so I just ordered the ham and Brie sandwich and a coffee with milk while my boo had one of the breakfast specials which had toast and a potato quiche (a tortilla I think they called it). The server and people there were incredibly kind and friendly in helping us with the menu considering my Spanish was not very good. I was very surprised and somewhat moved with how kind they were to a few bumbling jet-lagged American tourists who stumbled into their cafe probably committing faux pas every moment we were there. Went here for lunch on our last day in Barcelona. We arrived early in the afternoon to beat the lunch crowd (although it got crowded quickly). The waiter was very nice and explained the fixed menu (menu del dia) to us. This was a good deal where you get a drink, entree, and dessert for 10,90 euros. We started off with a Tunisian salad that had a mix of greens and pieces of beef. It was good, but the only problem was that the beef was practically raw. We then both had a "brick", which was an empanada with vegetables inside of it. It was good and came with some salsa that was pretty tasty. For dessert, my fiancee had a latte and I had peach compost with some crumbs on it. She found the latte to be delicious and I found the peach compost to be very good as well. Given how crowded it got, it took a while to get the waiter's attention so that we could get the bill. Otherwise, the service was pretty good. If you want a good and affordable lunch, this is a good spot for you. read more

Simple, straight forward menu with good food. The tortilla was nice and had that "home cooked" feel that one craves when you're eating out all the time as a tourist. The waitstaff is really nice too. Confusing order process, no one came up when I sat down so I went up to order, then tried to pay then and they told me to wait to pay. El Casal was a great find on a morning my friend and I were looking for a good breakfast before traveling to Madrid in the afternoon. The staff were extremely helpful and patient with our limited Spanish. The food was also very reasonably priced and was delicious. We both got a deal which included cafe, tortilla, toast, and a smoothie for 6 Euros. We were both full and felt like we'd had a home cooked meal and been treated kindly. Would highly recommend. The food in El Casal is as good as it gets! Everyting is fresh, tasty, home made and beautifully presented. It is just a stones throw from Santa Maria Del Mar church but is off the hussle of the main tourist drag, set on a quiet square. If it if breakfast, menu del dia or just drinks and tapas you are looking for I would highly recommed this place. We have been regualr customers there since we discovered it a couple of years ago and the service from the staff is always friendly and efficient. You must go and find this fantastic little gem in the Born area of Barcelona. read more
