Walking in from the outside made it a surprise when I got inside and saw the murals, nice tables, and how well the location was put together. The prices were reasonable and when I found out I could order breakfast I was happy and satisfied because even though it was lunchtime I wanted breakfast. The waiter was very helpful and attentive. I've been there twice. Service has been great on both occasions. The food comes out at a reasonable time. It isn't ready to go. Nor is it a long time. Guacamole - It was freshly made, zingy, a bit spicy. French Fries - They came with the Shrimp brochette. I finished every single fry. They were crispy outside and tender inside. They taste either double or triple cooked. Ropa Vieja - Very well prepared and generous meal. I like mine more tomato forward. Plantains were a bit sweet for me. That being said, this is preference and not quality. Shrimp Brochette - generous portion and fresh. Rice was outstanding. The Shrimp, bacon, Jalapeno combo were very tasty and a bit spicy for me. Ok first I ordered a lunch quesadilla that is on the menu for $5.99. It says to pick one meat so I did chicken. When I got it back to school to war I opened it up and the cheese was just shredded and all over not in the quesadilla not melted nothing. I was like oh well to late now. Then I got a bank notice for my charge and it said El Catrin Mexican Grill $ 14.45 I thought oh must be mistake opened it up and not at all! Wtf did I pay for? A couple small squares of tortilla?!? I really wish this place would pick up it's pace for service! The food, chips, salsa etc is really good! The service is so poor!! Usually the server tries but there is usually one server doing everything from order taking, drinks & food service, table clean up and cashiering. There has always been the same manager guy there that doesn't do much of anything. He will maybe bring chips and salsa & pick up a few dishes but otherwise sits and watches tv or is on his phone, no matter how busy the waitress may be. He also is so unfriendly! Never a greeting nor smile. He pretty much drops your chips and salsa or food off and leaves without even a grunt. This was the 2nd time I tried this restaurant. Service is terrible. It took 45 minutes to get our food with only 2 tables full in the restaurant. I had to get my table silverware after asking for it and the waitress forgetting. The waitress was too busy sitting at the only other table of guest there and sharing photos on her phone continuously. She brought my 2 year old sweet tea when I asked for water. The queso dip tasted sour. My quesadilla tasted like it just laid in grease. The refried beans, I can't even begin to explain. Extremely disappointed, especially for a pregnant mom who just wanted to get some food near by. The cook in the back took my card to ring us up, because the waitress was too busy sharing photos again. I didn't even get an itemized receipt. Came to this place on a weekday, had no wait, and was tended to immediately. I ordered the fajitas, which came out perfect. I also had some aguas frescas which were so nice and refreshing. So my husband and I went to this restaurant on a friend's reference so I stayed positive. The inside is cute and I like the theme. The food is good I especially liked the seafood tostadas. We went on a Thursday at 5:50(they advertise happy hour weekdays from 3:00-8:00) also on their table tents they advertise 10% for weekday meals and buy one get one free margaritas. Everything seemed ok then they brought the bill, I assumed it wasn't a strong margarita because it was a happy hour one but they charged full price and didn't do the buy one get one free. Also they didn't do the 10% off and they even added a random $10.99 charge and when I brought this to the servers attention she was like oh our system is having problems.....problems adding random amounts? So unfortunately even though the food was good I feel like they scam customers and won't be back for that reason. read more

My coworkers and me decided to try this restaurant today for lunch. I gotta say the food is good but that's it. Service is horrible, food takes roughly about 35 minutes while there are only 4 tables in the restaurant at that time. The main thing is in the end when all of us finished, the manager/owner came up to our table and greeting in Spanish. My coworker told him that we don't speak Spanish, he then talked to us in English. Then I told him that I could talk in Vietnamese to make him not feeling awkward, he then said "Tatatatatata, is that Vietnamese?" This is really disrespectful and ignorant when he did not speak or understand Vietnamese at all and try to make fun of it. I WILL NOT come back and WILL NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. read more
