Very happy. I was looking for breakfast on Sunday. What a wonderful place, hidden next to I 45 feeder, just off Rayford Road. Asked for breakfast, they have all day selection of breakfast . The prices are very reasonable!!! Breakfast taco $3.50. 4 large sopes $3. The coffee is fantastic. I had the Huevos Ranchero. Portion was substantial. Lunch today! Stopped by this spot today; in a renovated home, on a residential street; ample parking. Interior is very welcoming, clean, well Decorated and comfortable seating. nice bar area, too. We got fajitas and enchiladas. The beef fajitas are sizzling and well Seasoned, but the meat was too tough to chew. Chicken fajitas and enchilada were good; would get a plate of those next visit. Amazing food and the owner is very nice and attentive. We first tried this spot for breakfast and were very happy with the service and food. We came again for lunch a few weeks later and happy with everything again! We've gone a few times. A good menu and drinks. The food was ok and the service was ok.

Enchilada sauce is not good and they don't follow the menu. Twice now I've ordered the carnitas plate which should come with black beans, purple pickled onions, and different type of rice. Instead it can't with regular refried pinto beans, red rice and no pickled onions. If they don't have stuff they need to tell you when ordering, not surprise you with something different. This is such an amazing restaurant and we will definitely be returning. The restaurant feels very at home, the food has so much flavor and the prices are amazing/so affordable. I ordered the EL Picoso (steak with fried tortillas and a sauce/fried cheese with refried beans/potatoes) and I couldn't stop saying how amazing it was. This was our first time coming here so I was so impressed with how much I enjoyed the food. My niece had the kids cheese burger which was a really hefty size for the price it was. It was really fresh too. My partner got the chilaquiles and that was super good too but I'll definitely be getting the el picoso again. The restaurant was very clean/as well as the bathrooms. Finally got around to trying El Portal Mexican Grill. This little gem is unfortunately a bit off the beaten path, hidden on a residential street on the south edge of Oak Ridge, and overlooked by many including us until we made it a point to check it out when jonesing for some sizzling beef fajitas. It's everything a great Tex-Mex restaurant should be... very attractive, very clean, great service, excellent prices, and a mixed menu of wonderful typical Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican dishes. My husband and I go out every Tuesday for Mexican but our local place closed recently. We tried El Portal today and we are so happy we did! The restaurant has a great vibe! We each had enchiladas. He had beef and I had the chicken with sour cream sauce. The chicken was tender and moist - the sour cream sauce was flavorful and so cheesy! The beef enchiladas were great as well. For a Mexican Restaurant compare to many in the area, portions are plateful and very reasonable pricing. Always greeted and exceptionally good service with constant attention to customers. Well lit are located within a neighborhood street. Few parking spaces in front and many behind this restaurant building on their property. Had chicken enchiladas, meat was very dry and tough, not fresh at all. Salsa was served warm, it was ok, not great. Would not recommend.

We're staying in a nearby hotel for a few days and have been to El Portal twice now. The first dish I had was chicken in a poblano cream sauce and it was excellent! Tonight I indulged in red snapper in a seafood medley cream sauce and it was wonderful too! Im sorry we will soon leave for home but you should try this pace! read more

Heard about this place from neighbors and had to give it a try. Service was underwhelming. Went in and sat at the bar to order a to-go order. Bartender didn't really acknowledge my existence...didn't offer a menu or if she could get a drink while I was waiting. A waiter came up to offer a menu and to take my order. I passed it going to Sofy's Taqueria. I looked it up to see the reviews. I was mildly frustrated b/c their hours are not posted/mentioned/listed anywhere online and I stopped by this morning and no hours were posted on their door. I called them after 11:00am to get their hours and I'm here trying it now. They're open from 11:00am - 8:00pm M-F and 10:00am on the weekends. They serve breakfast daily. First impression: I walked in at 4:00pm and I'm the only one here. It's bright, clean and colorful. I like the ambience. The man who greeted me and took my order was kind. I like the chips. Chips at a Mexican restaurant are a big deal in my opinion. I don't like them salted, especially overly salted and poor texture. These are great! Second test, their salsa... it was served warm, has great flavor and isn't spicy or too watery/runny. I love spicy so some may think it is but I feel it's well rounded and most would find it palatable. Third test, I ordered the cheese enchiladas which is always my go to for my first attempt at any Mexican restaurant. It's a basic entree and an essential for any Mexican restaurant in Texas. If you mess that up then it leaves very little confidence in one's abilities to do anything else well. The cheese enchiladas are decent. There are other items on the menu I'd like to explore and therefore, I will visit again. By the way, they do have a full bar (not just beer and wine). read more
