I don't know why when I travel to Valdosta for work, I want Mexican food. Maybe because I see an abnormal number of Mexican restaurants on yelp when I'm search in this area. Well this visit, I found El Cazador. When I got to the restaurant, I was immediately intrigued by the outside. They have deers on the building which is pretty different, but hey I enjoy different so why not give it a go. I guess it ties in nicely to the name El Cazador "the hunter". When I went inside, I was seated by a very nice server. I made it a the tail end of lunch, so the restaurant wasn't busy. I perused through the menu and found something that caught my eye, the fajita quesadilla. The quesadilla was good. Similar to many other Mexican restaurants that I've been to. I guess you can reinvent the wheel, but I still enjoyed the food. Also, a special shot out to the salsa. I love good salsa and this was very tasty with just the right amount of heat. My daughter went to college in Valdosta and this was her favorite spot. So once she graduated with her Master's degree, this is where she wanted to celebrate. While it is not an amazing, it is a solid Mexican restaurant serving the food you are used to and doing it very well. Parking is easy and plentiful. Service is friendly and efficient. We chose last minute to go here. It was 7:00 pm in the evening. We had a wonderful waitress and even though she had two huge tables besides just the four of us we were taken wonderful care of. Our food was hot and fresh, tasted excellent and from what I could see at the two big tables beside us they were just as happy with their meals, plates were empty. I was greeted and had no wait upon arrival. I received excellent customer service while placing my take out order. Everything was correct after receiving my order and all take up plates were wrapped well with plastic to prevent spilling. The menu has a huge selection. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas and my meal was very filling and delicious. It's gonna sound weird but the frozen margaritas were the MOST frosty margs ever. I got a brain freeze trying to sip it for the first ten minutes. But they were delicious. The service was great, she kept our chips coming and never let us eat the small chips at the bottom, she'd come swap the basket out for a fresh one. The tamales were good, the chorizo queso is amazing. Our group got a few different things and we were happy with everything. We left there fuller than ticks. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is there's a strange part of the wall mural with a woman and a horse that you just have to see to understand. read more

El Caz is my Mexican restaurant standard in Valdosta. I mainly like it here because of price and menu options. I love the arroz con pollo and I add peppers and onions. It's a bed of rice with grilled chicken (and veggies if you add them) with cheese dip on top. I like this because is good and instead of ordering cheese dip too, I scoop up some of the rice and cheese on my chips. Our favorite part of the evening was David the manager who also happened to be our server. My wife and I have both worked in the service business and appreciate great service. El Cazador has been our friends' choice for the Sunday post-church meal for the last two years I've tried most things on the menu and haven't been extremely impressed nor disappointed. For lunch, I always recommend the Arroz Texano with added peppers and onions (free of charge). It is really good and affordable. The quality of the servers varies per visit. This was the worst "Mexican" food I've ever eaten. Ever. I'm giving this two stars because the server was friendly and the service was fast, but DAMN. My husband and I are both laying in bed contemplating just throwing it all up. I had the green enchiladas. The sauce was ok, but did not cover the tortillas and even though I asked repeatedly for NO raw onions... there were raw onions chopped on top, but not easily removable bc they were hidden under the melted cheese. If this is what you're eating as Mexican food and find yourself thinking, "Mexican food sucks, I don't really like Mexican food, or I love this food" please come over! If I give this place a rating it will be 0 stars! I had to go back to the restaurant 2 times because they messed up on my order. When I placed my food over the phone I told them i wanted 1 taco salad with only sour cream,lettuce,cheese,tomato well they didn't add the sour cream to that one. My other one was only with cheese and lettuce that one was correct. I told the manager since i'm coming all the way back I wanted my food cooked fresh. When he did my replacements they had beans added on the bottom but i didn't realize until i got home and started eating the taco salad and the one without the tomato had tomatoes in it. I called the store back to speak with the manager he told me it wasn't nothing for them to do for me anymore and that I couldn't get a refund. He basically called me a lie because he told me he saw them make it which means they didn't put tomato's in my taco salad in the one that wasn't suppose to have it but they did. Overall this night was just so much and I wasted money on food that was not good at all because the meat have all the grease in it. I will not eat from this place anymore. read more

Please understand that this review is being written from a slightly inebriated state. The margaritas from El Cazador have directly influenced the content of this review. Order the Texas margarita. Order it. Holy crap. Valdosta has an issue with Sunday - none of the boutique "good" restaurants are open on Sunday. I called them all - I checked, trust me on this one. They simply aren't open. We don't know why. Trying to go on a date with my wife while we visited her family we eventually ended up at El Cazador as a default to everything else being closed. The waitress came to our table and asked us if she could tempt us with a two dollar margarita. Being from Atlanta where margaritas are normally eight to ten dollars I was naturally suspect of the offer -- surely there'd be no alcohol in that. I asked, instead, for a texas margarita. The waitress told me that'd be a whole five dollars and surely I'd rather have the two buck one. Even then, a five dollar one is cheaper than the normal Atlanta fare so I stuck to my texas order and assumed the worst. While waiting for the margarita I perused the hundreds (okay, maybe not hundreds, but certainly an abnormal amount) of menu choices and ordered #27 - tamale, burrito and chile relleno. The margarita came out and I was pretty tipsy the rest of the evening. I cannot believe the amount of alcohol present in the wine-glass sized drink. Seriously. This knocked me on my ass. Later in the meal I ordered a two buck margarita and the waitress asked me how they compared. I mentioned the amount of alcohol in the first one I ordered and she said, "Yes, that's what texas means here - lots of alcohol." Okat then. Order a texas margarita. I honestly have no idea if my food tasted good. I scarfed it and couldn't taste much. My wife ordered taquitos and she said they were very good. Our waitress was very nice and the service was good. I am still in shock by the customer service. Two friends and I were craving Mexican food and decided to stop by and eat here. The parking lot was packed, but that didn't deter us since we were okay with waiting. Well we stepped into the restaurant and it was a full house. At least 10 employees were on the floor and my friends and I stood and waited a few minutes. We made eye contact with them and tried to talk to them and NO ONE acknowledged that we were even there! We waited a few more minutes then just left. They get 1 star for terrible customer service. It's not that hard to say "it will be a few minutes until we can seat you". As many times as I have been here, this day was probably the worst. Although the food was good, service was super slow and there was practically nobody in there! Our waitress came when she felt convenient, not when we needed her but towards the end she came a little more frequent.
