Now yall im TORN - because I love a good small Spanish hole in the wall restaurant but not my favorite place - the prices are great - DO NOT order the ceviche - it really wasn't good - kept getting clumps of oregano seasoning in my mouth and the lime juices were off - but what was I thinkin orderin this dish in the first place right, so maybe that's my bad - I haven't had their Torta dishes - if I were yall I would sick with the tacos!!! I only tried the supermarket (or more appropriately the "supermercado") part of La Jalisco Supermercado, so I can only speak of the market part. First, this Market has definitely seen better days. It could probably also use a bit of a deep cleaning. Another negative is they did not have a lot of parking. However, there was a lot of good to go with those few negatives. They have a meat department that looked pretty good. Their selves also contains a lot of interesting product. I often stop in both Mexican and Asian markets when I travel to see if they have something unique that I cannot get in the Mexican and Asian market by my house. This one did not have really anything that I had never seen before, but that is not a bad thing. They also have an area where they have hot food. I had just eaten dinner at a Mexican restaurant so I did not try anything there. I can pretty much guarantee that I would have had a better price point eating here as opposed to where I did. And there is a good chance that the food would have been better. So, as I said, I can only review the market parts. Overall I would give it four stars. read more

This place is inside of a Mexican supermarket. They have did some renovations and added a few things to their outside seating area. Everything is really nice. Not very big but can hold a nice amount of people and very intimate. The employees are very nice helpful and friendly. Food is very good I consider it pretty much authentic Mexican food for sure. It's a hole in the wall taqueria located inside a grocery store. Off the beaten path that got a lot of good reviews so we went out to try it out on the way down to FL from GA. I regret it. Food was ok...I was expecting to be blown away but was not really. Had the grilled tilapia plate, my sons had the beef tacos. The Tortas were pretty good and a good portion. Definitely value for money. We had the guava, passion fruit, and horchata as drinks and they were just ok -- fruit drinks were too sweet, horchata was too bland. What was very disappointing was the location and lack of security. We parked our car in what seems to be a safe spot but was hit by a car that just ran away. We came back from eating our meal only to find a damaged bumper. The saddest part is that our car was brand new and the sensors were damaged when someone backed into us. We asked around if they saw who did it and they were not helpful at all. I'm spoiled: I live in Atlanta, a few hours away, with innumerable authentic Mexican restaurants. This place is on par with those, with the novelty of it being located in Valdosta, Georgia. Food: was authentic as one could expect in Vadosta. Based on reviews, order the tacos. One chicken, one al pastor, one chorizo. We order these to go on our way back to Atlanta from Florida. The sauces that accompany them were delicious with varying degrees of spice. The red one the spiciest. The chorizo taco was the best in my opinion. I found the others to be fairly dry texture but the flavor was pretty good. My mom got a veggie quesadilla which was giant and really well done. Melted cheese and grilled veggies. I recommend this. The portion size was also adequate for a meal. The crazy corn was less than I had expected. Possibly steamed versus frozen corn with some spices and cream topped with Queso Blanco. This really should be broiled over the grill. I would skip this in the future. In summary, this restaurant is authentic and oh by the way part of a supermarket (supermercado) but not worth the detour off the interstate unless you're really craving some authentic Mexican fare. read more

I was left wondering if they seasoned it at all. The green salsa they brought out was decent, given the area. My husband got the asada fries and had the same issue with bland meat. Best Mexican food in Valdosta hands down! This restaurant is the only place in Valdosta that prepares authentic Mexican food. It is attached to a Mexican store so all the ingredients are fresh. The Cubana sandwich here is probably my favorite thing on the menu but I've never had anything that I haven't enjoyed. Ask for the avacado sauce and habanero sauce on the side as well. I figured there was nothing more authentic than tacos... and so I picked 4 (chorizo, Mexican sausage + steak, pineapple chorizo, and fu**ing cow tongue to mix it up). All of them, including the cow tongue, were on point. I then proceeded to order a fifth because I'm fat. Also tried some meat from a few different tacos my son ordered. I will tell you that they had the BEST lengua that I have ever had. Although my exposure is limited; it was still tops. Came here for my birthday with family. Two of us are CA born and raised. I knew the moment we walked in that the food would be good. Most of the Comida de Mexicana made in CA is from Jalisco and the aromas made me homesick. The food was delicious. The margaritas were very flavorful and didn't skimp on the tequila. This is real Mexican taqueria food and a real gem for Valdosta to have and it's attached to a Mexican market, as any good taqueria should be. Although they have a pretty big menu for a taqueria, the staples are the street tacos with your choice of meat (carne asada, al pastor, pollo, carnitas, chorizo, la liguina, tripa), as well as house-made tamales too, the mark of any decent taqueria. California burritos are another thing you can find here, and they do it as well if not better than any Moe's, Chipotle, or Qdoba for a couple bucks cheaper. A favorite of mine is their tortas, which is kind of like a mexican sandwich on a soft bun filled with your choice of meat, avocado, jalapenos, and lettuce, served with salsa, my favorite being the verde. If you want your run-of-the-mill Americanized Mexican food, then you can keep going to Rodeo and El Cazador. But if you want authentic Mexican street food, come here. read more

Typical Mexican restaurant was a pleasant surprise to find in Valdosta. It brings me joy anytime I find a place that sells real-deal tacos (ie: tacos de tripa, lengua, etc.), and that they actually taste good. Their Mexican beer selection was decent, too. I was really bummed that they had run out of the menudo, but based on the menu picture it looked great. Next time I'm in Valdosta, i'll swing by and order the menudo. If they have it and I like it, i'll update my review. La Jalisco is the very definition of a hidden gem. My husband and I were driving from Atlanta to Tampa, and stopped for lunch in Valdosta. I took a gamble and suggested we check this place out (we were both craving Mexican food). I'll admit that I was a little nervous upon parking, but all of those feelings disappeared as soon as were seated (VERY limited seating by the way). Our waitress was very sweet and the menu had lots of delicious looking options to choose from. My husband I both ordered a tostada and a sopa (vegetarian for me, chicken for him). Even though the dishes are simple, the flavors are fresh and on point. I loved the corn bread crust on the sopa. As authentic as I've ever had! You'll hear "authentic" a ton when someone's talking about La Jalisco, and that's accurate - you're not going to get more Mexican than this place if you're in Valdosta, and if you're used to other Mexican restaurants and visit here, you might feel out-of-place. The food is tasty, and I'd rate my experience here much higher if I didn't get a "Thank goodness I didn't bite harder on that" bone in my first burrito. The server didn't really seem to care at all when I pointed that out, and we paid full price for it. I mean, I get it - it's a small business that's out of the ordinary, and maybe the practices that make this food so good lead to bones getting in there every so often - but come on.
