This is a small town within the center of Cozumel located down a side road while driving along the western highway. It is not worth a stop at all. The place is pretty much abandoned except for some souvenir vendors. The main attractions they try to advertise online are Mayan "ruins" and a cenote. The ruins are just a small pile of rocks formed into a hut. The cenote was closed when we went but every review online will tell you it is a very small and unsafe cenote. You can find plenty of huge, beautiful and well maintained cenotes just outside Playa del Carmen instead. read more

The description on my excursion package wasn't exactly clear on what we'd see. El Cedral is a tiny neighborhood near the southern tip of Cozumel. You have to drive through a gate to get to this very tiny Myan temple. I thought I would be seeing a gigantic structure but the temple was tHe size of a shed! Then we were taken to a tequila tour in El Cedral and had a didactic experience tasting different types of tequila. The brand of tequila they served I isn't sold in the U.S. and I regret not buying a few bottles. The tequila that is aged 7 years is the best I've ever had and super smooth. If your tour takes you to El Cedral, you'll enjoy it! read more

Great chilaquiles, and Cafe de olla! Definitely a must try! Had great live music, and was seated fairly quickly for such a large party.

If you want Mayan ruins then El Cedral most definitely is not the holy grail. It's 95% tourist stores, 5% amazing ancient rocks piled up. The site is a small temple where Mayan ladies would go and pray for fertility after marriage. Seriously, you may as well skip it. I liked the idea of it because its conveniently close to beaches and because it's free. lf you're serious about your historical sites then I advise you to just take a ferry to the mainland because that's where all the history geeks will get excited. By the looks of pictures, San Gervasio which is a little more north on the island is a bit more extensive as well, though my cheap ass didn't feel like paying the entrance fee. I guess you get what you (don't) pay for! On the upside, parking is free and monitored by the store owners so it's actually quite safe. On the downside they will heckle the ish out of you to come look at their magnets/blankets/sombreros etc. read more

This excursion worked out nicely for my elderly mother since there were not many options given from our cruise.. She uses a walker. When we arrived to the excursion, they had a wheelchair and helper waiting to get her around the property. It had educational aspects of their Mayan culture. Mayan ballgame was interesting and so was the different dance groups. read more

This is not worth your time or money. My friend and I paid $12US each to see the Cedral and to enter the cenote. When you drive into the lot people selling goods try to make you park in front of there store to sell you things (not to assist you with navigating the site or to provide any direction while you're there). A random store owner told us about the history of the site for 10 minutes and then asked us to come to his shop to get good prices on unappealing souvenirs. I wish I had pictures to share, but I was so thoroughly underwhelmed that I couldn't even muster the effort to take a picture even as I was constructing this scathing review in my head. Anyway, We asked to be directed to the cenote (there are almost no signs the grounds and the maps provided are thoroughly unhelpful). One shop owner told us we couldn't go to the cenote because it was going to rain another told us we could go because we had the bracelets that give us access. He pointed us to the direction of what we thought was the cenote and we drove for about 30 minutes around the site to no avail. The roads are bad and a specific route that seems like the best course to the cenote is through the jungle. Without any clear indication of where we were going and sketchy people giving us conflicting advice, we decided to leave and never come back. read more
