    Chicken flautas!
    Marlyn V.

It is literally one block away fromthe baseball field, very easy tomiss. Looking over they menu they have all types of delicious plates from South America like a Colombian Bandeja Paisa to Mexican tacos. Since it was already late, I ordered a plate of chicken flautas and was seduced into a cup of horchata. I am normally not an horchata drinker (it's a milky drink made from corn that tastes like rice pudding, even writing that sounds kind of gross), but EVERYONE that came to pick up their order got one, sooooo I wanted one too! It came from a glass jar in the deli pantry and it was so delicious and sweet. As for my flautas, they were perfectly crunchy, delcious and loaded with fresh salad and cheese. Everything was made fresh and right in front of me, not on purpose, more because it's a small place, but either ways I liked it. The reason I am deducting a star is not bc of the shady neighborhood or the lack of parking, it's bc it took SOO long to make my order. I spent 25 minutes sitting there, and yes they did get a few people coming in to pick up, but it was just way to long for a simple orderof flautas. I definetely recommend calling ahead. Although the food had good flavor, the place itself for me is mostly a take out joint. So come and check them out, and pick up a bottle of the good stuff across the street while you're at it.

This place is so good! It is dangerously close to my house. I really could eat from here every day. Everything we have tried has been delicious. Their roasted chicken is a favorite. As well as empanadas and quesadillas. I haven't tried all the offerings on the menu but I look forward to making my way through it. What we have tried, is always fresh and well seasoned. Definitely our neighborhood spot.

Bandeja Chapin. Chicken with marinated steak and pork with rice, beans and salad. Very good!

Always wanted to try this place and really enjoyed it. Very low key and simple with part kitchen, part grocery store and part places to sit. I ended up with the Bandeja Chapin which was chicken, marinated steak and pork. Came with rice, beans and salad. Very good! Folks were very nice. Definitely would go back!

Found my way to El Chapin for lunch yesterday. It is located toward the bottom of Cass Street in Trenton, between the prison and Arm & Hammer Field. It is not really on Lamberton Street, although it is possible there was once a door on that side of the building. "El Chapin," is slang for a Guatemalan, so although the menu has a certain Mexican flair, this is a house that specializes in cuisine from its southern neighbor. And, it is very good. The lady of the house was taking orders and cooking when I went in. The menu is rather extensive and it took a while for me to decide what I wanted - everything was bilingually displayed with many photos. Mamita was patient and when I finally selected the Chile Relleno she smiled and said it was one of the best dishes in the house. I bet she says that for whatever people want. But, she was right that it was special. About ten minutes later, out came a large green Poblano Chili Pepper stuffed with spicy shredded Pork, Peas, Onion, Cheese, and a few things I could not define, all wrapped in a thin Egg Omelet. Black Beans, Yellow Rice and a small Green Salad completed the platter. It was delicioso. Every element of the dish could be tasted and the combination was a full pleasure to devour. I also had a glass of Horchata, the Rice Milk and Cinnamon drink that is a national treasure. As friend Marlyn describes, it tastes like liquid rice pudding. When cold, I find it fun, tasty and thirst quenching. As with almost all the Latin shops in Trenton, they were once Italian joints or corner bars that had seen the neighborhoods change and adapt to the influx of new residents. Unlike most, however, El Chapin has somehow removed the old rustiness of these places and made it feel fresh and energetic. It was very comfortable to sit in one of its booths and watch people coming and going. While I have favored all the Mexican, Guatemalan, Salvadoran and Puerto Rican restaurants that I have sampled to date, I found El Chapin to be about the best of the lot. Thanks for a great lunch, Mamita.

1/4 chicken with rice, beans, and macaroni salad

Their food is delicious. Their chicken dishes are great and their sides are full of flavor. I especially like their rice and beans and macaroni salad. The restaurant does not have many seating so there were times where I had to take the food to-go. Nevertheless, their roast chicken dishes come out fast so it's never a long wait. And their prices are very reasonable. I paid less than $15 for two people before. Their service isn't the greatest since some of the waitresses couldn't speak english well. But did not have that much trouble ordering food. Overall, this is one of my few favorite restaurants in Trenton. I would definitely recommend this place.

    Raw chicken

I tried this place twice. Both times I ordered directly from the Yelp app and picked the food up. I had an empanada and three tacos the first time. The empanada tasted a little dry, but it was edible. The tacos were okay, didn't really care for the taco shells. The second time I ordered I decided to play it safe and ordered some chicken wings and fries. The fries were bland and overcooked. My chicken wings were undercooked, the inside of a few of them was still raw. I am really hoping that I don't get sick because I took quite a few bites before I noticed. I would have rated this place one star, but decided on two because of their customer service. The cashier was very nice and friendly. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile and the cashier asked me how my day was going. Nevertheless, I will not be returning. Thanks but no thanks.

I use to love this place until I found a long ass strand of hair in my food! Ladies tie your hair back when you're working around food because it's so fucking nasty to be having hair in the food!

I'm very happy I gave it a try. It was a few miles away but tucked into an area I would have not have known about. The small parking lot was filled so I parked next door at a seedy liquor store. Inside are about 8 tables and a large open kitchen. There are a few options available at a steam table at the front, a few stews and a soup that all looked great, I may just go with one of those next time. While waiting for my to go order I could see the cooks taking pride in their craft. There were a few gringos like me dining in, and the dishes they ordered were plated beautifully. Once home I tore into my guac and chips first. Sturdy homemade chips with a citrusy guac. I just wished the guac had been put into a container so I could eat it later. The chicken tostadas looked a little beat up from the drive but were not soggy and were very well made. The chicken had been lightly charred on the flat top and all the ingredients blended perfectly. A note on the sauces, both red and green were thin ish, but very good. I was surprised that neither were too hot! I had the chicken empanadas for dinner and was again very pleased . These are on the larger size but a bit thin. As I was heating them I could detect a smoky flavor. The filling was excellent. It appeared to be chunks of roasted bird blended with potato, peas and carrots. It came with a separate baggie of shredded cabbage and carrots that I forgot about until just now. I get empanada often, and these were some of the best recent ones. The restaurant also has some sweet treats available in cases at the front, I kind of regret not trying any of those. Customer service was very good and with no language barriers. If this was closer it would probably become a regular stop for me. But I'll definitely return when I'm at the farmers market. 4.5 stars.....

We came here for brunch on a Saturday which happened to be Valentine's Day as well. The entire place was decorated with heart balloons, flowers on the wall, and the sweetest music playing. Even their regular decor is spectacular; the tables are spotless, beautiful velvet green chairs, and the cleanest bathroom. I also LOVE that their menu is a tour of South America because you can get such a variety of different flavors. We started with an order of their beef empanadas which were spectacular ! Then I ordered a Costa Rican Gallo Pinto breakfast (black beans, rice, chorizo, avocado, sweet pla trains and egg). Hubby ordered a exican breakfast of huevos rancheros (cubed potatoes, sausage, onions, peppers, chorizo, eggs and red sauce). Our son ordered the Nutella, strawberry pancakes which he also LOVED. Everything was very reasonably priced between $13-17 and was a good portion. The coffee was also amazing, sadly $5 which was a little pricey with no refills...but I'm happy to support a small business versus a chain. Kevin who was our server was so sweet and kept checking in to make sure we were liking our food. Then at the end of our meal they gave us the most delicious flan because it was Valentine's Day! Make aure to check this place out, parking is a little tricky, but otherwise it is worth the trip into Chambersburg.

It's nice to support small businesses perhaps if in the mood for fancy pancakes or BYOB would be back since they do have a pretty ambiance. No music was playing though when we were there. Service was not bad they didn't ask if we needed anything but when we did ask for stuff the answered friendly.

Their themed burritos are a neat concept. The rest of the menu was pretty loaded with standard taco's, quesadillas, bowls, salads and appetizers like potstickers, curly fries/loaded fries, boneless wings and jalapeno poppers. They also have a "Chiwawa" which is a lightly fried panko crusted cheesy rice ball smothered in melted cheese with a choice of protein and toppings. The young lady who took my order recommended a Nashville Hot Crispy Chicken Burrito - burrito filled with white rice, crispy chicken tossed in Nashville Hot sauce, pickles, sour cream and cheese. $11.29. Their price point is around a dollar higher than a California Tortilla and Chipotle. The tortilla held together well, the portion of chicken was good, they packed it with a lot of rice, the chicken certainly had "Nashville chicken" flavors. I enjoyed the crispiness of the chicken. My son had a kids taco meal that came with a drink and chips. He wanted a second taco so the total came to $9.99. Chipotle has the same 2 taco meal for a few dollars less. The chips were stale, but the tacos weren't bad. The chicken had quite a bit of kick to it. He ate and was happy. The bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned that day and the few tables they had for seating at the front of the store were dirty too. True, it is tiny (2 tables inside and 2 more out front), and it is a dive (in the best sense of the word), but the skilled hands in la cocina tell a different tale. I approached to check their trifold menu and engaged the man who appeared to be the owner or manager. He was fluently bilingual making it easy to explain what was available and then how I wanted my Torta Milanesa de Pollo prepared. I took a chair at one of the tables, and moments later my lunch was placed before me. It was an enormous sandwich on an oversized oblong roll, dressed in heavy foil at its waist and showing its internals at its edges. Just take a look at the photos. It was an amazing piece of working peoples culinary art. I maneuvered my jaws for a first bite and attempted to compress the width of this monster to fit more in my mouth. I clamped down full force and cut through its many layers. The flavor of the breaded cutlet, spicy mayo, avocado, tomato, onion, queso and lettuce burst out and had a fiesta in my mouth complete with pinata. It was just an excellent sandwich. Eating half would have been enough for a satisfying meal, but I indulged and ate the whole thing right there. Totopos has been in business for about three years.
