The ceviche was good and not spicy. The burrito was good and big, a little spicy for me. The tacos were good. Service was good. They have a small patio on the street. Nice but the seats are very uncomfortable.

$26 for 4 tacos de birria seems overpriced IMHO. They were alright. Nothing to write home about. I left the restaurant with my belly full but I can't say that I would want to come back. Having large flat screen TVs broadcasting baseball was odd to me, considering that it's meant to be a Mexican restaurant. When you're going out to a Mexican restaurant, the last thing you want is to sit there and watch a baseball game on mute. Who does that? Very odd. The owners could've gone for a more authentic Mexican experience instead of making it seem like a sports bar. As such, I did not like the atmosphere. There was nothing Mexican about it. Service was alright. Nothing special or extraordinary and yet, of course, they expected a tip. I'm tired of the tipping culture in Toronto. Service is usually mediocre or ordinary, and yet they expect a 15-20% tip. Why should I tip for ordinary service when it's the employer's responsibility to pay his staff a living wage. Servers should not rely on the generosity of patrons. We should adopt the VAT system similar to how they do it in France, where tipping is not required. This also entails a higher hourly wage than the current one.

We had a lovely meal here. It was during the week so it was quite quiet. Service was great, the staff are very knowledgeable about the menu. Quite a few wonderful options. The margaritas are excellent, as are the tacos and other dishes. Recommend the dulce de leche cake, but I would pass on the deep fried ice cream next time. It just didn't do it for me. Being located right on the Danforth, you're pretty much limited to street parking, with a few lots nearby. TTC stops are also not far.

I went to this place and everything was delicious, their menu is very authentic and their drinks are great made with natural juice which is very rear to find.

Newly opened Mexican spot right smack in the middle of the Danforth. While the original El Charro still stands on Broadview, that spot seems like a stall compared to this location. Huge space that's great for big groups (while we were there, they were setting up for a quinceañera), piped music and neon lights to set the festive mood, and comfy booths to drink the night away with friends, El Charro Danforth is ready to throw a party! The food though, is the same. While we expected a bigger menu at this bigger location, this still has the classic El Charro fare - greasy goodness from it's assortment of delicious dishes. Went here for lunch and got: - Nachos: This was looooaded. Also, huge portion size for $15. - Carne Asada Fajitas: This was a tad disappointing since the beef was a bit tough. But again, huge portion size, generous sides, and the beef itself was tasty. - Pescado Burrito: They cut the burrito on half and it stayed opening up and spillongnvier, so not the easiest to eat. That said, they fish was fried and battered well, the tortilla was soft and chewy, and again those tasty nachos. El Charro is a great alternative to the bars/pubs and Greek spots thah dominate the heart of the Danforth. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood!

Had such a great time at El Charro. The restaurant is very cute and the staff is so friendly. It was definitely a comfortable dining experience and will be back again! I ordered the birria tacos. The food came out fast and I have to say it was DELICIOUS! Best taco I've had so far. Even better with the hot sauce. I highly recommend.

Pretty bad. I lived in Southern California for 9 years & South Texas for 6. I know they're not Mexico, but the presence there is ubiquitous & there's real Mexican restaurants everywhere. I was looking on the menu for a michelada & asked the server if they could make one; no. What kind of Mexican restaurant can't make a michelada? So I ordered a Rumchata - horchata & 1 1/2 oz of rum. It came in a small old fashioned glass. There was no taste of rum at all in that drink. 1 1/2 oz in a glass that small would be very noticeable. So they'll cheat you on your drinks. It was Saturday morning, so I was looking for huevos rancheros. They don't do breakfast, but they have eggs. Server said that he could ask the cook to add an egg on top of chilaquiles?!?! Got a shrimp burrito. $ 20.00 for this. And it arrived cold. So I sent it back. The server returned with the burrito. They didn't make a fresh one, just reheated it. They burnt the outside of the tortilla but the inside was still cold. Sent it back & asked for my bill & left. Save your money. Go somewhere else.

The worst food and the worst service. Overpriced, not fresh, undercooked food, a nightmare and waste of money.

The inside was nice, it was dark with ambient lighting and decorated with a modern and Mexican theme. The waitress was super nice, and the staff were fairly attentive. We got the chips and guac to start. I do wish they gave a little bit more walk because it came in this really small cup so we had to go light on the guac to chip ratio. But overall the guac was yummy and the chips were very crunchy with a nice seasoning. They have a special every day of the week and Thursdays are there crunch tacos, which are hard shell tacos, wrapped in a soft shell taco with some sauce in between, and you can choose between their chorizo or chicken. We got one of each. I liked the chicken more but my partner liked the Chorizo. And all the toppings the perfect Fixin's. They only had three washroom stalls, which were gender neutral, and I thought they were relatively clean.

You enter the restaurant from a set of stairs outside and the restaurant doesn't look too appealing from outside. Also, the restaurant always seems busy and/or small, so it's always loud and service is slow. With the negatives out of the way, let me explain why I love La Carnita! The food is amazing! Their tacos are on point, and with so many to choose from I can go back multiple times can never get bored. Each of their tacos has something different to offer and each has relatively good balance to them. The balance of freshness and savory (and sometimes sweet) toppings is well done, making me come back for more. The one item that pushes La Carnita over the top is their nachos! Homemade nacho chips with gooey cheese and a generous amount of toppings makes them my favorite nachos in Toronto! One last observation is that the service is always friendly. They may be (very) slow at times but they seem like they always try their best and are always quite pleasant. Overall, I love La Carnita and when I get a craving for tacos and nachos, I'm heading straight here!

The place is a bit small so it can be a bit tight so I would highly recommend having reservations if you have a large group. Tacos: The soft and the crispy tacos were both delicious. Parking was a challenge, but there is a Green P that is about 5-8 minutes away that isn't too bad if the weather is good. The atmosphere is quite intimate and I did find myself bumping into other people / staff when going to and from the washroom, etc. The food was pretty good - the tacos were full of flavour and I got to try a variety by sharing with the group. I think my favourite was the beef barbacoa. The prices are definitely a bit up there for a Mexican restaurant, I believe the tacos were around $7 each. The quality made it worth it, but there's definitely other places in Toronto that serve up a great taco for nearly half the price. We also tried a couple of appetizers, including the nachos, guac and ceviche. The nachos were something special - it was a bit of a nacho pizza. I didn't expect that from Playa Cabana, given everything else was very authentic. The taste was good, but it was a bit of a challenge to share! The highlight of the night was definitely the desserts - we ordered the tres leches cake, and the churros. Definitely the best churro I've ever had.
