The Mexican food here is authentic, fresh and flavorful. It's a mom and pop shop, with sweet ladies running the place. They are very proud of their food, cooking with love, with recipes originating from Mexico City. The dining room is clean and comfortable. And it's fun, with a lot of orange, festive music pumping overhead, and a luchadores wrestling theme with masks displayed all over. Sure, their food is a little pricier than other places, but worth it. Taco recipes have been tweaked some since I began eating here a coupla years ago..now coming with a heap more veggies on each, distracting a bit from the meats but still tasty. They have el trumpo rotisseries that sit unused until weekends. Which made me worry my al pastor could be a week old..But it was delicious - a little tough but lots of flavor and just enough heat. Carnitas was just okay, but the asada had lots of flavor. Gorditas are a little pricey here but my menu favorite so far - piled high with cheese and fillings, bread toasted to add some greasy goodness. Fresh tortillas are made in-house, even the large quesadilla-sized. Salsas are well made, tasty and fresh (and very spicy!), especially that orange habanero. Agua frescas made fresh and super flavorful, $4 for 16 oz - some of the best horchata around. And their fermented fruit drink, I think it's called tepache, is outta this world. Ask for it! They could improve a few things. Service can be disorganized at times, cook times can run long, and communication can be an issue. But the ladies have been so chatty and friendly to us, I rounded up to 5 stars. read more

We found this restaurant on TikTok and it looked good... we were excited to try it due to the hype it had on tiktok. We waited 40 min to get chips and salsa plus we had to hit the call button for the waitress a million times because she wouldn't bring our drinks. AC doesn't work so a cold drink would be nice to cool down but we didn't get ice in our drinks either. Other tables were being waited on while we had to wait 40 minutes to get our order taken. The truth is that we are very disappointed. We were expecting something good. The gorditas had almost no meat and the tortilla dough tasted like lime. The green enchiladas had a horrible raw sauce and almost no meat. It was too expensive for such poor quality. read more

Came in with my family and had a great meal overall! I ordered the hurache with Al pastor and it was good - house salsa was delicious and spicy (as it should be)! I was enjoying it so much I remembered to take a photo halfway through. Table service was excellent and they were very attentive to our needs. We came to grab lunch a bit on the early side (11:30) but by the time we left at 1, this place was poppin. I'd love to see them operating for the night life scene, it is so charming and unique! Saw this place on TikTok wanted to go celebrate my birthday on Saturday night. We put our name on the waitlist and were told 30-35 min wait. We waited outside in the heat and went in to cool off. I counted 6 empty tables and politely asked why they were not seating people I was told very rudely by the employee the kitchen was backed up. They wouldn't be seating anyone anytime soon there was at least a 40 more min wait and 8 tables ahead of me. (We had already been waiting 1 hour at this point)I asked if we could just sit bc I wasn't feeling well and she told me to go wait in my car. I laid my buzzer on the hostess stand and left. It's late, I'm hungry, this is open. This is delicious. A lit up spot in a shopping center off of 44th & Penn did nothing but deliver on every point of service for my friend and I after a late night working. From the street, it says OPEN. We pulled in. The walls are covered in wrestling decor of all kinds. You should stop in to see what I mean. It's an open kitchen so you know they are doing their best to keep it clean and handle your food with care. That's important. The nice lady who attempted to take out drink order asked if we could speak Spanish and we answered no. With a smile she asked us to wait a moment. Moments after, a friendly man who spoke English came to take our order. The food came out promptly and exactly as we asked. All the while, people kept walking in the door. Bottled water is served when you ask for water. Sodas are served in 20oz bottles. You'll spend a little bit, if you know what I mean. Not toooooo much. They do keep the doors open though so I can't complain. :) I give this place 5 stars. I will definitely be back with more friends. It's the perfect place for a quick date night bite, late night stop in, or a grab and go. I haven't been here in the day so I'll have to fill you in on that later. We decided to check out El Chilango after seeing it online. We visited at 7pm on a Monday and it was mostly full but we didn't have to wait for a table. Vibe is lively and casual; luchador decor, wrestling on the TVs and festive music. Fresh chips, green salsa and a pineapple relish (sweet with a warm aftertaste) are brought to the table, good flavor on all. Our servers were helpful and attentive but it was a bit of a wait to get our drinks and food after ordering. We got a Paloma and regular margarita to drink, both good (and a bit strong!). We ordered the chorizo queso which was very good and had a cute presentation; they torched the unmelted cheese on top at the table (see video). It's served with street taco-sized corn tortillas and my husband said he could have just eaten that for dinner; I ate it with our chips. Husband got three street tacos, al pastor, steak and sualdero; he said the al pastor was the best. I had the chicken quesadilla which was good and very filling (picture included). I am a wimp with spice and it was not spicy at all which is always appreciated, but they do bring three different sauces to the table with your chips, which my husband added to his tacos. My husband's main complaint is their only beer options were Corona and Michelob Ultra, but that's probably fine for most people. Also most of their chairs are backless, which can be hard on some people. But overall a good experience! read more
