I grew up in the store. I swept the floors before catching the bus to go to school, stocked the…read moreshelves, and came to love the great folks of Rodeo, NM. Loyd & Custie Mauzy opened the Cafe after they purchased The Rodeo Grocery on the 70's. Years later, Nancy & Bill (deceased) Cloudt purchased from my family and continue to run the Cafe located inside the grocery to this day. You can always expect great food, great conversation, and interaction with locals. Yes, the farms and ranches have, for the most part, left the area. The history still lives in this quaint little town just inside the border of New Mexico. Just ask. Folks will share many stories of the area from Geronimo to John McAfee. Located south of I-10 on State HWY 80. Visit the great Chiricahua Mountains as well. See the area meet the people.

I agree with John E - "If you're on 80 between Douglas and Lordsburg, stop here!"…read more ... but with a few minor service and food quality tweaks, I think the heading could change to: "If you're on I-10, the 20 mile detour to the Rodeo Cafe is worth it" or "If you're in Douglas, make the journey up 80 for a change" I stopped in for Breakfast, early at opening, the crew let me in early, and was instantly attentive with some hot coffee as if I was a local. The breakfast menu looks phenomenal and I couldn't wait to try the Huevos Rancheros. However, unfortunately on my visit, they were out of their enchilada sauce, so I went with the #5 pancake breakfast (large). It was near perfect. Two pancakes of solid portion, fluffy and thick; yet substantive and able to take the butter and table syrup perfectly. Bacon was perfectly cooked - crisp, not with a small bit of chew, and the ham sizable and nicely cooked. Eggs over medium - again perfectly cooked with toast crips and not dry. A few minor tweaks could move this from a place you stop by if you're in the area, to a place you come to the area to stop for. Table Syrup - Mrs. Butterworths? I'd suggest you consider finding a small purchase of 1.5oz single-serve jars of pure maple syrup. If I was offered that for an extra $4 for the quality of pancakes, I would do so immediately. Coffee -- Folgers is good; but you could easily buy a small coffee grinder, and some fresh beans. Put that through the coffee pot, and the experience could be elevated yet again. Anytime I am at Rusty's RV Ranch in the future, I will be returning here for breakfast again, and again.
