When I saw the menu online I was surprised to see the $6.75 and $5.75 single tacos, but since it's LA, and iconic Silverlake, I foolishly thought they were going to be some damned good tacos. Haha! Hard and cold corn tortilla from a bag, with (days old, or many times preheated) hard carnitas. Semi cooked chorizo, not enough toppings, the tiniest quarters of lime and green sauce container. The menu says each taco comes with salsa, green and red. When I asked twice for my promised red salsa arrived late and they charged me for it. It was very disappointing. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas which arrived burned. Literally...The server, was no where to be found. The busboy was kind enough to come to see if everything was ok and told us they will replace the fajitas. The second time they were better, but still many pieces burned, again! My friend ordered chicken enchiladas which were so strange.. basically they were cheese enchiladas with pieces of chicken on top. I'm giving this place an extra star because they compensated their mistake not charging my husband for a beer he'd ordered. The ambiance is magnificent; a superb Mexican hacienda-like display with decent food (the chips and salsa are some of the best I've had). Their bartenders (John, Adam and Steve) are the sharpest cats that I've seen in the bar industry. I came here on a Thursday evening with my boyfriend. We sat at the bar, the vibe was lively. We ordered two cocktails, both were good. They have a decent tequila collection. The carnitas nachos and a fish and brisket taco. The nachos were delicious. We started in on them before I could take a picture. They had plenty of delicious carnitas on them, with lots of flavor. The tacos were also delicious. We liked the fish taco best, but the brisket was also really good. The meat was tender. No fatty bits in the taco or salad, which makes me happy. Overall the vibe was great, noisy, but not too loud, the bartender was friendly and gave great food recommendations and the food and drinks were good! Ok, we still stayed just to try it thinking with these prices has to be good. Well, our waiter didn't check on us once, our food took a while and was cold. So now what made our experience not to great was we got the food to go asked for the bill. Here's our bill we got charged "4% equitable living wage" like wtf is that? Stopped off here for a drink before dinner in Silverlake. As it happen to be happy hour when we arrived. Since we weren't going for food, we opted for the bar. There was a few people already there starting off their Friday night with a drink or two. Ordered the happy hour red wine and margaritas. It was quite great. The chips and salsas was helpful with our drinks. I love how it's not your typical tortilla chips. These had a seasoning on them was great on its own or with the dip. Thinking that we weren't going for food, we ended up ordering a few things off the happy hour. The nachos and cheese quesadilla. I was very impressed on how tasty the quesadilla was with just cheese and no meat. The everyday menu did looked amazing. Guess we'll have to come back for dinner or lunch one of these days to try it out. Heads up, they are now adding a 20 percent service charge to all bill. A Real Gem in Silverlake! So happy we found this restaurant! We had an amazing Sunday lunch here! Many amazing vegetarian choices too! This place is the best spot in silver lake / echo park area hands down. The vibe is spot on!!!!!! Drinks are fire and so is the food. Instead of having a pretentious, stereotypical LA staff, the crew at El Condor is extremely friendly and they welcome regulars like dear friends. Cheers to the GM for understanding those details when it comes to hiring because it's the main reason this is my go to spot. Jake is genuinely too good to be true as a server. Joshua the bartender is a legend, makes amazing drinks, and always genuinely asks how I'm doing. Paige is a star. Jorge is my bff. Nicholas at the front kills the game. Everyone else I working is just as cool, kind and chill. Had such a great time at El Condor with friends last Friday night! We did walk in on a Friday and they said the wait would be 1hr-1.5hrs but it only ended up taking 45 mins. El Condor is one of those places you walk by and add to your to do list because it looks cute, but aside from the adorable front patio this place leaves you questioning how and why you paid so much for really basic Mexican food. Forced 20% tip is taxed. Completely unnecessary and obnoxious at most. Help pay your staff a living wage all good, but to tax that line is just taking advantage of your customers. What does this mean? It means your already overpriced $17 asada enchilada comes out to $22.34 after tip and after that dish and tip is taxed. Excuse me what? My group agreed - way overpriced, nothing innovative and completely explains how we were able to be seated so quickly. Tho the asada was nicely placed on top of the enchilada instead of inside... fancy. I saw this place honestly because there was a spot to park as I got closer and saw the people inside I thought "I didn't get the memo" everyone was dressed like a backdrop for Austin Powers it was really cool. I want to like this place it has a great vibe&ambience but I tried it for a second time and was disappointed. First time I went on a whim with friends, and got the chicken fajitas and a margarita. Marg was good, extremely salty and the chicken was under done and chewy. The waiter who barely checked on us gave us drinks on the house. I went back, suggesting it as a spot for din and drinks. We waited 15 mins and no one waited on us. We had to ask someone to take our order and she was really apologetic. Thought our food came out fast the chopped salad was drenched in feta cheese and soggy. I was also given the wrong drink.
