It wasn't so busy right when they open, but people kept trickling in. Any spot that has spacedust, has good taste. They also had fried zucchini on the menu, which we tried, and it really paired well with our beers. We parked on the streets and walked. I'm glad I finally gave this place a go; the Negroni was SOOO good, possibly the best I've ever had. Sarah was amazing! I was surprised by how chill it was for a weekend night. Good drinks, prices, and service. My only note is that I think the music could be a little louder because I felt like I could hear a pin drop and the lights a bit dimmer too, but maybe that's just personal preference! This place was solid for a casual hangout. It was a Saturday evening and we were just catching up with old friends that came from San Francisco. This place was low key, parking was readily available, and it was dog friendly. They also have a non alcoholic menu for those who don't feel like drinking. We stopped here on a whim. When I saw that Jay's bar was in a strip mall I fully expected it to be a dive bar, but it definitely was not. I was surprised that it was decent inside and to see craft beers and hand-crafted cocktails on the menu. A variety of their spirits are from independent distilleries, which is cool. They also serve food and offer various Japanese-American fusion dishes, including Ramen. From what I've heard their Ramen is supposed to be very good. I started with the Mr. C's Special (Tequila, triple sec, lime, agave, & jalapeño ($14). It was tasty. My friend wanted The Classic Easton, but they were out of cucumber so she went a martini instead. Our other friend had Bourbon & diet and the J's Special Burger with cheese. ($9). We also shared onion rings & fries. The onion rings were very tasty. There are two tv 's on the wall for your entertainment. The sound was off, but one had sports and the other a movie. The music selection was great and not too loud, so we were able to have a conversation. Bartender Nick was attentive and had a great personality. First one in at 4pm on a rainy Tuesday. I was told the chef isn't here yet and will be late. First impressions of Jay's is that it's smaller than I thought. It's located in a strip mall on the corner of Fountain and Sunset. I started off with a cold Kirin and waited for the chef to arrive. The bartender came up to me after waiting for the kitchen to be started up. I placed an order for the J's Special Burger ($12) with cheese (+$2). It doesn't come with a side so I ordered the fries extra crispy with the wasabi salt. I ordered another Kirin as I felt my order wasn't going to ready anytime soon. The burger is no frills, no veg at all except for the side of pickles. My fries were hot and crispy. The wasabi salt added a nice touch of flavor. So, as someone that likes spicy food, the added flavoring wasn't spicy at all. Upon closer examination of the burger, it looks like it's a preformed patty. Nothing special about it especially since I waited 30 or so minutes to come out of the kitchen. So, I think it's a quarter pound patty with a bun and cheese. It's alright but I think I can get a better burger elsewhere. Jay's is a cool place to hangout and have a drink with friends or a date. But, it's small and intimate. I can hear the convos going on. So, not a place to share intimate secrets, lol. I ordered a Soy Sauce Ramen to finish off my happy hour. The broth was super tasty but I had to add some fresh cracked black pepper. The ramen noodles had a nice chew to it and the fresh scallions were nice. Wow, amazingly satisfying after I finished the bowl especially on a rainy day. Jay's got a bit busier as it approached 6 pm. We didn't order any food, so this review is for drinks service, and vibes. On our way from the Petersen Automotive to Pijja Palace, we had some time to kill and so found Jay's Bar on Yelp. The four of us arrived a little after 4:00 on a Thursday, found street parking (rather than the tiny lot), and pulled up to find two other patrons and who we think is the owner doing some business on her computer at a table. Erich was very friendly but not imposing. The happy hour deal of Kirin and gyoza sounded good, but we were on the way to dinner and decided not to. My brother ordered the Big Bad Baptist (on draft!!! I haven't seen it in forever!), my sister-in-law enjoyed her Brooks Dry Cider, Jim G. had a Space Dust on draft and I enjoyed the Yuzu You cocktail, which was a nice mix of shishito-infused gin, yuzu liqueur, lime, and cracked pepper (there's also a bit of simple, which I asked Erich to omit). There was some nice music playing and a rousing tennis match on one tv (at least according to Erich and the two other patrons) and on the other, the end of a Godzilla movie and then an episode of The Sopranos. I imagine at night when this place is packed, the vibe is a bit different, but it was great for our purposes. We are way far away in the northwest SFV, so this isn't a place we'll drive all the way here for, but if we're in the area, we'd definitely stop in again. read more

From Japanese dishes to the humble burger, everything I've tasted has been delicious. The kitchen takes last food orders around 10:30 so if you're hungry just get there before then. read more

This little gem located in a little strip mall is worth visiting. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a couple drinks. My boyfriend loved his ramen (he's very picky when it comes to his ramen), while I had the cheeseburger and steak fries. The burger was tasty, but reminded me of a McDonalds cheeseburger that I could have had for 1/6 of the price across the street. The steak fries were underdone for my liking, so next time I'll opt for the regular fries. The drinks were well made and we watched movies on one of the two big screen TVs on each side of the bar. The best part was the bartender Maya. She was so friendly and personable and gave us amazing service. A solid 4.7 stars. read more

No hours are listed on the padlocked door, although a sign with an open padlock reading, "Come in, we are open," is displayed. (Someone who appears to be an employee just came by, looking confused, tried the padlocked door, then walked off.) Really cool spot with neighborhood feels for mixed drinks. The Little Doll cocktail is pink AF but one of the best mixed drinks I've ever had. Vodka, St Germain, Mint, berries, lemon and lime. SMOOTH, not too sweet and completely balanced. My partner got the Oaxacan Penicillin which would have been more appetizing to me if it was less smokey. Lots of vegan options which are awesome to find at a bar. I ALWAYS need carbs to compliment my drinks, which is why I don't often drink but I went with something boring and simple because I wasn't ready for a full meal: fries! And they ended up blowing my mind, oddly. They were dream fries: super fatty yet extremely crunchy. You could actually taste the potato. Their normal fry platter comes with garlic aioli which of course isn't vegan so I swapped it out with their vegan house sauce and it was awesome! I got laughed at by my table for waxing poetic about the fries.. but then they tried them and never said another word, because they were too busy stuffing their faces. Ok. Recently tried the food here for the first time. Their new(ish) menu includes many delicious Japanese dishes! There are also many vegetarian and vegan options!! The tonkatsu ramen is delicious. I prefer it without the pork chashu. The flavor is rich and very filling! My boyfriend ordered it last week and I kept stealing his bowl! The Karamiso gyoza are so delicious and perfect for sharing The tonkatsu pork sandwich is also amazing. Crispy and delicious. The wings are okay. The pieces come out very small. Nicely tucked in a small plaza in Silver Lake. Came by Jay's on accident as we're going to Garage pizza (which is in the same plaza) This would be my second time coming and each time had a very different vibe. The first time was late at night, almost closing time. Low light setting, nice and calm. The second time was during happy hour and the place was jam packed. People conversating, eating the bar food or Garage Pizza pizza while enjoying a drink or two. Jay's has some awesome cocktails as well and a very knowledgeable bartender to make you something that will suit your craving. If not a full 10/10 cause i don't know a better spot. My bf always gets the tonkotsu and I get the vegan ramen. It's impeccable. We will drive 45 minutes just to get this ramen. It's too good. It's such a hidden gem because people are lining up for other places but this is where the real flavor is at. Plus they make their noodles and spicy chili oil fresh daily. Such a perfect ramen spot. Randomly driving around Hollywood with a friend, looking to day drink. Why is nothing open? Why can't we get a grown up beverage at 3:30? Grrrr. Then I see, tucked away in a mini mall, Jay's Bar. We pull in with fingers crossed. Yes! It is open! Let the day drinking begin! Considering that all we wanted was alcohol, we were very pleasantly surprised that this little bar was actually cool. Great music, good bartender, and a cool crowd. It is both gay and straight friendly and I love that mix. We shared the fried chicken wings with Fresno chili. Delish. Messsy, as good wings should be. Jay's Bar is a nice, darkly lit spot to get a drink and eat. They have some vegan options, which seem to change frequently. I got the Jay's Burger ($12) which is made with the Impossible Burger. This wasn't anything special and the bun sucked. I'm getting tired of the Impossible Burger, which seems to be the only vegan option out there these days; I'd much prefer something homemade or even a batter-fried tofu patty or breaded seitan cutlet. The vegan taco trio ($11) was bland and dry. They served it to us with old cilantro, which didn't help matters. I guess I'm glad Jay's Bar is around, if only for ambiance, but their food has room for improvement. read more

Noce little cool hip bar with great food! I come here for the veggie chili fries with fresh cut jalapeños! They use fresh fries and not just any fries but those thick ones. I wish o could take a better picture but this photo does no justice to how great it taste. I order one of these bad boys all to myself I don't share so don't think about it. LOL!! They do have happy hour here so check it out. One thing I did notice they got rid of the daily specials like $3 burgers nights for wine nights which sucks. One thing about this place is you have to order at the bar no one will come to you so if you are new order at the bar and they will take care of you. read more

Super cool local spot with good food and beer. Not a huge selection, but a good selection. Somewhere between a gastropub and a dive bar, it's probably not somewhere most people would drive their way out of, but we did (from West Hollywood, since we don't have too many local "non sceney" bars with good food). It was pretty chill until 10 pm, at which time some more "interesting" people showed up... whether this was a stop on the way before and evening out or if this was the place to go for the evening out remains unclear. I had the pesto burger but substituted chicken (not on the menu but as the guy behind the bar said, "why not, we're creative here" which was delicious and small, but filling. I highly enjoyed the poutine, made with thick cut fries, which is apparently not a "traditional" poutine but rather fries with gravy. I don't know what traditional poutine is supposed to taste like, but it was good. We discovered the very good "Three Weavers Brewing Co" from the IPA they had on tap here, and are planning to make a visit to the Inglewood brewery. read more

Went just for the Happy Hour before the Dodger game last night. Love when they have HH food and drinks. The Smokey Tempeh Melt was ridiculous. I wanted to order another. Also had the veggie chili fries and I thought the tomato chunks were too big and not enough fries for all the chili. My hubby had the house wings which had a dry rub and he gave them a 4.5/5 (he eats a lot of wings so that's a high review). They have had a recent menu change.
