Local bar not far from where I live. Hadn't been here yet, not sure why, so was out and about and decided to pop in on the weekend. Indoor and outdoor seating available, Bar Henry is a cool little for in Echo Park serving up tasty cocktails in a friendly, local feeling environment. We tried a few cocktails when we visited. The Butthole Surfer is their version of a pina colada which, while decent, could have been a little more flavor forward. Feel it is premade in batches as I didn't see it made fresh but was brought getting the back, but still decent. The Lucid Dream had the smokiness from the mezcal posted with the mandarin, but then the rosemary comes in and helps add a little balance to the drink. The Swimsuit Edition was more flavor forward, but the passion fruit didn't necessarily pop in the drink for us. And finally was the Snitches Get Stitches, another mezcal drink with mango and horchats. Interesting was my first thought, then you start getting the nuances of the different interested and it's a respectable cocktail. Visited Bar Henry a couple of months ago for the first time. The bar posted they were having a Palestinian fundraiser so I wanted to go support. Unfortunately when I walked in there wasn't anything indicating or blatantly obvious that the fundraiser was going on. Anyway, I still ordered a drink (dirty martini) and a pretzel. I'm sure the drink was well made I just wasn't a fan of olives and vodka together so I'll probably never order that in my life. The pretzel was honestly pretty disappointing, I've had better. Tasty fantastic drinks! The Flattened Priest, on Bar Henry's menu is one of the best Mezcal cocktails I've ever had! Not exactly sure how long this bar was around, but I just went for my first time recently. And I think I found new favorite spot to drink in the area especially before or after Dodger games. The vibe is pretty chill here and the bartenders are really cool. They have a great selection on whisk(e)y and of course the more higher end you go, the more it will cost you, but honestly, the relative pricing here feels really reasonable compared to other places you can find the same rare whiskeys. Came here to meet some friends after the opening day Dodger game, so parking and driving through the area was probably as horrible as you would imagine. I found parking a few blocks away and came in and sat at the bar area. My friends were already drinking, but I started with a pour of William Larue Weller. One of my faves! I also got some Blanton's Gold before leaving. Really liking the selection here. I could see this being a great spot grabbing a drink before or after dinner here as well especially since it seems like so many exciting and great restaurants are in the area. I hope to be coming back quite frequently around dining adventures and Dodger outings. There was another spot I used to go to in the area for drinks around Dodger games, but with all due respect to the other spot, I feel like I'm getting way too old to deal with the crazy crowds, haha. I've passed Bar Henry so many times and always wanted to check it out. One night while driving down Sunset, we finally made it in. I had the Butthole Surfer, which is basically a frozen Pina Colada. I was out one night looking for a place to take my friend and help cheer him up after part of his house burned down. I was driving along Sunset Boulevard when I looked over and saw the sign for Bar Henry. It looked like it might be what we needed and once we parked it turned out to be EXACTLY what we needed. I like dive bars and also neighborhood bars and this is an awesome amalgam of the two: too nice to be a dive bar in to locate to be a big time hang. So it sits somewhere in the sweet spot of what I like. Decor inside was really well done and simple and the music really vibe. The pictures of different musicians on the wall are all quite interesting and there was both window seating and patio seating. I would love it if this place had food but that would turn it into something altogether different and since they did drinks really well I honestly didn't miss it. (And that's saying something cuz love food). Besides, it gave me an opportunity to visit someplace else after I was done at Bar Henry because the neighborhood (Echo Park) was just loaded with awesome places to go. But for the two hours I was there, Bar Henry was just fine. Apparently, on weekends Thu-Sun) they have a DJ and, considering the chill ass music they were playing without a DJ, I can only imagine that having a DJ there is a "cool as hell" experience. Btw, there is ample neighborhood parking which, in and of itself, is reason enough to go there. read more

I appreciate management taking the time to respond to a specific incident after THREE MONTHS of the review being left, and while I am understanding of their position, I still can't help but feel the whole thing was blown entirely out of proportion and could have been resolved with a conversation rather than an abrupt dismissal of a paying patron who was doing nothing other than what the bartenders expressly gave him permission to do. You can do better than that, and you know it. Still disappointed, and I won't be returning. If there was a zero star to give I would. I entered to bar to use the restroom but I prefer a drink before hand. Asked the bartender for a lemons drop but in a shooter glass. Proceeded to used the restroom and I came out to the bar as the drink was sitting on the bar. I took out my wallet that had 2 hundred dollar bills. I took one out to pay because I wanted change for it. As I paid and received my changed I got back $9. I was stunned as to how much the drinks cost, looked over the menu and nowhere saw a drink over $15. I asked one of the other bartenders how much the lemon drop cost and he said $11. I told him I gave the other bartender a $100 bill and this was the change I received. Then the Bartender that first served me Julian came back and told me I gave him $20 bill. I said no check your cameras and you'll see I gave you a $100 bill. He went back to the drawer to look and came back to say did you give me a new hundred or an old one. I had both in my wallet so was unsure if it was a new or old bill. I said old because I was stunned at the situation I was in. He came back and showed me a newer bill saying this is we all he had. Threw the bill at my and said keep it. I was shocked at the disrespect. I told him no I know I have you a $100 bill. He walked away and didn't look at me. I left his $9 change he gave me. Left half the drink I courier even enjoy anymore. Plus I left him a tip of $5-$10 dollars because I knew I wasn't on the wrong. The most unsuspected service I've ever encountered at a restaurant. I randomly discovered Bar Henry as I was walking to get tacos. It's awesome. The atmosphere is bougie dive bar. Lots of street parking. It's not the safest area, but since it's off of Sunset, there is enough foot traffic to feel somewhat safe until the crazies come out. I like that small outdoor seating, but really love their open window seating area, so you can see all the bad drivers and weirdos walking Sunset. I came on a slow day, which was great, but I can imagine this place can get really packed. My only complaint are the higher-than-expected drink prices.
