I believe one of the most beautiful resorts in Puerto Rico is the El Conquistador Resort, it's about a 50 minute ride from the airport. This resort has it all, a water park, boat ride to a private beach (Palomino) with a bar and food. The service at the resort is exceptional and very professional. Cleanliness is the number one priority and it looks it. This resort opened in 1964 and has been growing ever since. They have at least 8 restaurants on site and multiple bars. The food and drinks you have to pay for but prices are reasonable. The grounds are beautiful with tropical foliage and magnificent pools. They even have a wood fire pizza oven dishing out incredible Neapolitan pizza. Highly recommend and since less than a three hour flight from NY, it definitely worth going back too.

This is for room 3116 not yet renovated room. I hear the hurricane ripped through this once beautiful resort. What has been renovated is beautiful. The dining options, pools, ferry to the private island are phenomenal. The room, undesirable. Initially the WiFi in the didn't work. Had to call a technician. However, the wifi is spotty throughout. How they hosts conferences with spotty wifi is beyond me. The tv then stopped working at some point and finally came back. Iron leaked all over. Called for a new one, never received it. The bed linen was old, itchy/scratchy and felt like it should have been shaved. I literally had to sleep several nights with long sleeve pants, shirts, and socks to not breakout. Finally after several days did they change the bed linen. The housekeeping didn't keep well. Didn't replenish much other than towels daily. This is not a resort I would recommend someone stay unless all of the rooms were renovated. I couldn't even rest in the room. Just uncomfortable stay and sleep.

Decent rooms, great location, reasonably priced. Waterpark was a bit lackluster but everything we needed and offers a boat ride to nearby island

My father and I stayed at this resort as part of a signature package for the Bad Bunny show. The bad: It is far away from San Juan and I don't think the resort thought it through well when they planned to be a partner hotel. Namely, they should have had buses to transport guests to and from the concert (for a fee, naturally). I also think Vibee should have said how far away this place was...It's remote and can be hard to find transportation. Speaking of which, when I spoke to staff their suggestion was to rent a car or take a $130 taxi into San Juan for the concert. This seems dismissive and also why would anyone rent a car to drive in to park a car for a concert? It still doesn't make much sense to me. There are also some 'junk fees' like a $20 per stay charge for bell service; it doesn't matter if you use them or not, you will be charged! The porters also seemed to be standing around a lot and not actively looking to help anyone...Will say it must be nice to take it easy when you know you will get this fee per reservation. Please give this money to the housekeeping staff instead!! The average: Pricing is a bit all over the place. I ordered the same thing at the coffee shop and somehow got different prices on different days (along with an excellent drink on the more expensive day and just so so the next day). Pina colada was disappointing; from a mix and clearly not putting any effort into this. My recommendation is to stick with hand mixed drinks like a mojito. The drinks are pricey and small, but you are a captive audience! The food is pricey and some can be good...Ask your server and hope they give you a decent recommendation. The awesome: Loved Palomino Island. It was the best beach I have been to and the snorkeling was great. I even saw a reef shark! The boats don't really go out or back on time, so be mindful of this and allow extra time if you have concrete plans. John/Jan at reception was also very helpful. The DJ at the pool was fun and played what the people wanted to hear (Bad Bunny). I really liked our room, and that view!!!

I stayed at the resort March 9th-11th. The resort is on a beautiful piece of property which is why it has a few stars to this rating. I've highlighted below my takeaways for others to consider before booking. Palomino Island - 4/5 The island itself is beautiful so had to rate separately, but the ferry ride to and from the island I would give a negative 5 on that. Ferry to Palomino Island - 0/5 Recommend having more ferry boats over to the island and back. One was running at the time and we wasted three hours in total waiting for the ferry. Not something I recommend. Beach is beautiful, but the ferry schedule needs major work. There also was some group that got off a bus that got to go before guests on the ferry which caused an uproar rightfully so since some guests didn't make the ferry due to those individuals cutting the line. It was all around not a good experience. There are plenty of beautiful beaches in Puerto Rico with a lot less headache to see. I recommend you go see the other beaches and not spend half your day wasted on waiting around for a ferry. Coqui water park - 4/5 Water park features a small lazy river which was the best part in my opinion, but be prepared to bump into everyone along the lazy river. Water slides were also fun and you have three options. Was a beautiful spot to spend the day at the pool. Can see this being a major win with families due to variety and plenty of pool space as well. Cutz Steakhouse - 5/5 Meal was amazing and drinks were spot on. Atmosphere is what you'd be expecting for this type of resort. Highly recommend. Sicilia - 4/5 Meal was great and drinks were okay. More of a family spot which was fine, but the atmosphere needs some updating. Seemed off to me from the moment I sat down. Brapanta Bar - 3/5 We ended up stumbling upon this bar which ended up being good drinks, but odd service. Wait staff didn't come around so I went up to order and when I did they said they'd be over to the table. After they eventually came over it was a better experience, but wouldn't be my first go to. BallyHoo - 5/5 The second night we stopped here for a drink as our end cap which was great drinks and a beautiful spot. We were happy we found this spot the second day when sitting for our long ferry ride. Hotel rooms - 3/5 My hotel room was updated and we had a beautiful view. I will say we had so much noise outside our room at all hours of the night. I actually sent an email that night complaining to ensure future guests get told this room is very loud. I am a light sleeper so the 12am screaming from fellow quests was a little much. I get having a good time out, but when everyone is walking by your room being towards the start of the building you hear it all. Would recommend staff have selections for individuals who are light sleepers from someone who was up two nights in a row to constant loud talking and screaming. I also would recommend looking at the Las Casitas Village as we didn't look at that as an option and regret not picking a more secluded area. Casablanca - 1/5 I'm sure it's a beautiful bar, but opening at 9pm is a little late for someone who likes to go to bed at a decent hour. I was very disappointed in the late hour opening and was hoping at least 7pm to enjoy a drink at this establishment. I never got to enjoy a drink there which was sad because it was on my top things to do at the resort. My recommendation is changing the hours of the bar. The first night we stayed we found ourselves not able to enjoy a drink anywhere. The outdoor bar was full and no bartender was to be found at the bar upstairs. When you are staying at a "luxury" hotel you expect more than what was presented during our trip. I had thought about staying here for my upcoming honeymoon and I'm glad we visited before making that decision. I wouldn't run back here, but I hope with some more years of work I will visit to a different and improved El Conquistador.

Great hotel! I stayed in an ocean view room in the Las Brisas section of the hotel that looked out over Fajardo. My room was updated and the king bed faced the wall to wall window. I loved the walk in closet off the bathroom which gave me plenty of space to store my things. I enjoyed that I could charge everything to the room and not have to carry a credit card at all of the various locations throughout the resort. My only complaint was that there's wasn't more Puerto Rican food at the restaurants. I spent time at the pools and visiting Palomino island, which was unfortunately very buggy during my visit. I also tried all the restaurants at the resort and the food was good. My favorite places at the resort were oats for lattes, the cafe for guava quesitos, and la Ezkina for frozen drinks.

The area outside our room! So natural and beautiful at night.

Beautiful room Beautiful view Go. To. The. Island! Go early or rent a cabana! They are still restoring parts of the resort from the hurricane. We had some construction below us a few days but it was courteous and limited to daytime hours 9-5ish. I loved everything about my stay! The only thing I would love to see more of is local flavor in the restaurants! I felt most of it was too Americanized. They need to have a specialty restaurant dedicated to the flavors of Puerto Rico!

The views, private island and grounds make this a 10/10, but the rooms push it down to maybe a 6? It's frustrating because this place could be spectacular but the rooms are not really taken care of and they don't go above and beyond in anything. I'd consider visiting again but I'd want to know I had either a newly built room or one that was completely gutted to the studs and renovated. The Good: - The views, if you have a high room and can see them, are incredible. It's like a blend of Sorrento and Maui. Just stunning. Grounds are immaculately cared for and that includes the golf course. So much care goes into their outdoor area. I'd give the outside grounds a 9/10. - The island- I really do love the set up. Pristine beaches that are safe and beautiful on those calm days. They have newer umbrellas and beach chairs that are comfy. They have a beautiful bar and restaurant on site and some food options that are elevated from typical beach bar food. - Some of their staff members are excellent at their job. Our waitstaff were all wonderful and the bellmen are attentive. - The Waterpark -even as adults we thought it was clean and fun and there's even an infinity type pool. May be the best part of the resort quite honestly. - Bono was lovely for dinner, (if you get the Spanish options, Ventanas for breakfast (and maybe a dinner), Oats Juice Bar for breakfast. Pizza surprisingly good. - The rooftop bar is lovely and the bartenders there are great. But they are wildly understaffed. The Bad: -Rooms are wet. Like come home at the end of the day and crawl into sheets that feel like you've been sweating in them all day- wet. If you find yourself here, I'd proactively ask them to change your sheets every 2 days bc after that they begin to smell. I feel like they need to look into a full building dehumidifier for building 3. If you're on floors 1 and 2 in this building there is a good chance you'll experience a very noticeable wet smell the second you walk down the hallway. I find it insane that they put people here particularly with other rooms available and I would be concerned about exposure to mold. We were moved to the third floor of the same building and it was better, but definitely not what I'd expect from a 5 star resort. The room is dated. The fact that they still have carpet in rooms with moisture issues is irresponsible. Virtually every cloth-item is stained (benches, robes, linens, you name it). And the bathroom...peeling paint, broken shower glass, unmaintained showers (weather stripping gone so water leaks out everywhere and black mold in the grout and caulk. -There's no water stations (that I'm aware of on the island). We bought two waters and it was like $11. You're supposed to get 2 waters a day in your room, but it's 50/50 whether or not you'll actually get them. You seem to have to proactively ask, but I guess that's a tip I'd recommend to save a few dollars here. -If you want a beverage after 3pm you're treated as an inconvenience on the island. -Ferry to the island- in theory I don't hate the set up. What I can't get over is the lack of awareness around hospitality. We went out on a day with probably 6ish foot swells and they were using a tiny dive vessel to take large crowds out. So picture (or watch the videos I posted) being on the starboard side and being waterboarded by oncoming waves. The staff told you that you can't stand on the boat so you're just sitting there taking it. You cover your eyes but the water keeps coming for 20 mins. It's irritating because they have three other boats. They just choose not to use them all the time. Finally on the ferry, my advice would be to never take the last one. Here's why: they kind of push you all off the island at once so you get on the boat and you sit there for like 20 minutes. All while they round up every staff member and cram them on the same boat. It must have been ok, but I was honestly questioning the number of people on the boat. I have no problem with staff being on the ferry with guests, but in my opinion they should be using the big ferry to transport everyone at the end of the day so people aren't squished together on a tiny hot boat. -One of the funicular cars was broken all week which caused constant traffic jams up the hill. -Hot tubs-there are three which is not enough for the number of people here. They were constantly overflowing. One was never hot and smelled like a bacteria cesspool and the third is kind of hidden and was drained at least one of the days we were here. -They need to figure out whether they want to be a family friendly place or more of an adults only type of resort. Every night they have entertainment which is basically a dj playing to 15 people with kids running around the dance floor. It kind of feels sad but it could be such a fun, vibrant space!

I am surprised by the 2.5 overall rating of this hotel. While it has a few areas that need improvement, I believe the low rating is not justified. Let's get the negatives out of the way first. Cell service in the lobby was not good. WiFi was frustrating. I tried to connect to the WiFi in the lobby and a purpleportal.net page came up requesting birthday, mobile number, zip code, email and gender! Seriously? I am not providing this info so no connection. The hotel seemed to be a little under staffed. But the staff was courteous and helpful. Generally it felt a little disorganized. The restaurants could be better but served the purpose when we didn't want to go out. I was really impressed by the Palomino Bar & Restaurant on the private island. The food was far better than the restaurants in the main hotel. Oh, and the resort fee of $65 in addition to the room rate. But it was disclosed during reservation so no issue. Now the positive experiences that earned the 5 star rating. This hotel is family friendly with all the pools, private island, play area for kids. We visited over spring break, the hotel was bustling with children. So it was a little noisy, especially in the lobby area. I love kids. So happy kids running around did not bother me. The hotel can be a quiet retreat when the kids are in school. :) We had two rooms. They don't seem to be new but certainly not dated. The hotel was devastated by the hurricane in 2017. It is still renovating; currently at 368 rooms and suites, growing back to 750 rooms by 2025. The view from our room was breathtaking! Amenities include four pools, Coqui Water Park, golf course, tennis courts and a private Palomino Island. We took the panoramic elevator to the funicular and then the ferry to the private island. There could be a little bit of wait for the ferry so it is better to make a reservation. Palomino Island is so beautiful! Cell service is good. The food at the Palomino Bar & Restaurant was among the best we had during the stay in Puerto Rico. All in all, we had a great experience with the stay that justified the five star rating.

our stay was ok, the 24 hour fitness center has many broken equipment and rust. Needs work and also needs to be updated. BE prepared to walk long distances to get to the ferry, coqui water park and restaurants. It took me at least 10 min to get to each destination from our room. I will not be returning to this resort.

Beautiful views, installation is well kept for the most part, friendly staff, couple of dining options in the hotel. My stay was only for 2 nights on labor day weekend, not many people was staying over seems lots of tourist go for a day pass

The first night I heard what I assumed was a curated "rainforest soundtrack" through speakers. It's not. Those are actual local frogs, and that small detail somehow sets the tone for the whole experience: it feels real, private, and almost unreal at the same time. The room is massive and thoughtfully designed. The outdoor shower is a standout, and the big tub makes it feel like you have your own spa built in. I didn't have a private pool since I'm on the second floor, but the view is so beautiful I stopped caring pretty quickly. What impressed me most was how effortless everything felt. Having an Embajador team plus a driver/golf cart makes the resort feel easy to navigate, and they're quick to respond when you need anything. The pool is stunning and spacious, and the overall vibe is quiet, calm, and never chaotic. The only thing I wouldn't hype is room service. It was underwhelming for the price, especially the lobster. If you're deciding where to eat, go to Positivo near the concierge instead, it was noticeably better. Even when the weather turned intense, it didn't take away from the stay. If anything, it made the resort feel even more cozy and cinematic. Add in the humidity controls in the room (so underrated), and it's one of those places you leave already planning how to come back.

There are golf carts that take you from one area to another as everything is pretty spread out. For example, from the main gate to the hotel is a little less than a mile. Only two free breakfast are included with Marriott status. So if you are traveling with kids, you have to pay $22 plus tip for their breakfast every morning. There is a small gym next to the spa and a larger gym called the wellness center which is about Half a mile from the main area. Food issues The main issue here as many other of viewers have stated is the lack of decent food selection. Sea grapes is decent but only open until 5 PM. Paro gets terrible reviews and is excessively overpriced Mediterranean food. However, an Uber from the hotel to Rio Grande is not expensive around $10 and they are good restaurants, but you must do your own research. I recommend Los kioskos de luquillo Which have many food options and it is basically a beach party scene better for adult adults than kids. Service and butler service overall were spotty. We were given incorrect information multiple times. Don't forget to take a ton of cash to tip-wish they would include this in the final bill. Loved the ocean view, comfy beds, and spacious bathroom. Overall a nice stay and would consider coming back if the food options improved a bit!

Traveling on a budget but want to be on the beach? this place is for you :…read moreI had never stayed at Luquillo Sunrise Beach Inn before, but it had been on my list for quite some time. I've always wanted to spend more time in Luquillo, and after seeing the consistently high ratings on Expedia and TripAdvisor--along with its beachfront location--I decided to give it a try. The property itself is older, but don't let that deter you. The rooms were exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a very relaxing stay. I loved the balcony and watching the ocean from so close! Beautiful sunrise too. Check-in is more laid-back, so don't expect a traditional front desk experience with someone always present. That said, the communication was excellent. I really appreciated that they reached out via text ahead of time to ask about my arrival--it was a thoughtful touch. I arrived earlier than the standard check-in time (as I had mentioned), and there were no issues at all. When I rang the bell, a staff member promptly came out to assist me and greeted me with a warm smile. There's also a very popular restaurant and bar on-site with an amazing-looking menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to try it this time, but it's definitely on the list for our next visit. The location is another big plus--easy to find, right on the beach, and conveniently close to a Walgreens and other nearby beaches to explore. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would absolutely stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

This Resort is the first one that was built off the island of Jamaica, where Sandals first began. It has an older vibe to it. Very easy to get around and get your bearings of where everything is. You also have a resort map to help guide you. In some things we were a bit disappointed, but overall we really had a great time. I would recommend you make your reservations to the Dinner Restaurants when you first get there. The early times fill up fast. You know when you are on vacation the time goes by faster than usual. The swim up bars are great place to talk with other vacationers. Everyone is having fun. If you are heading for the beach, make sure you get there early to get the beach cots. It can be challenging to find one as the day goes on. The beach towel stations run out of towels rather quickly, the supply chain is slow replenishing the stations. I would suggest, at the pools grab a few towels from there. It may save you a walk from station to station looking for towels. They have lots of activities every day. The evening has special themes like "White Night " you wear your white Linen clothes, Reggie Night, etc. Live bands play every night somewhere on the property. Your daily resort schedule will tell you where. Oh yes dress, no matter where you go reservations or not, flip flops are the standard foot wear. I brought a few other pair of shoes that I never wore. Oh yes it is only a 10 or 15 minute bus ride to Grande Antigua from the airport. Sandals provided transportation to and from the airport. No tipping at the resort, but I did tip the driver to and from the airport.

We recently returned from a stay at Sandals Grande Antigua (June 15-20, 2025) and while there are…read morecertainly aspects of the resort we appreciated, there were also several concerns that, cumulatively, made this experience fall short of the high standards we've come to expect from Sandals based on previous stays in Barbados and St. Lucia. Pros: - The setting is undeniably beautiful. The beaches are stunning, and the resort grounds are well-maintained. - We appreciated the convenience of unlimited food and drinks. - The inclusion of Robert Mondavi wines ensured a consistent baseline of wine quality, which we enjoyed. Cons: - The level of service and staff attitude was noticeably below what we've experienced at other Sandals locations. Many team members seemed disinterested, disengaged, and at times cold--lacking the warmth and hospitality we have associated with the Sandals brand. This was especially evident at check-out, where no one asked how our stay was nor offered a simple thank you. - The number of solicitations we encountered was excessive and disruptive. On one occasion, we were approached five times in two hours--making it very difficult to relax quietly or enjoy reading without interruption. These included both Sandals-affiliated promotions and third-party vendors. - The food overall was average, which was a disappointment given the typically exceptional culinary experiences we've had at other Sandals resorts. Most pastries tasted mass-produced, croissants resembled those from a grocery store value pack, and drinks were heavily watered down with ice. - A few bright spots in dining included Soy, Eleanor's, and Kimonos. In particular, Chef Ronello and server Chad at Kimonos created a memorable and special hibachi dinner for our anniversary after a group no-show left us with a private experience. Their warmth and attentiveness stood out as highlights of our trip. - The breakfast quality was consistently poor. Omelets were made using bare hands to grab ingredients, which raised hygiene concerns. French toast and eggs were cold every day. - Internet access was frustrating throughout the stay. Frequent disconnects, weak signals (especially in-room), and download speeds of only 1-2 Mbps are unacceptable, particularly at a resort of this caliber. We chose not to pay for the "premium" internet, though advertised speeds were still below modern expectations. In 2025, even economy hotel chains offer faster, more reliable WiFi. Frankly, airplane WiFi outperformed what we experienced at Sandals Antigua. We strongly believe that premium-level connectivity should be included in the standard offering, especially at the price point of this resort. Closing Remarks: While the location and a few exceptional staff members helped create some positive memories, the overall experience at Sandals Antigua did not meet the standards we associate with the Sandals brand. We contacted Sandals directly with our feedback and they responded with offered compensation in terms of points. However, we were surprised to receive a legal document in connection with this offer to release us from future reviews. We felt this formality was unnecessary, particularly as our intention was never been to escalate matters beyond constructive feedback. After careful consideration--and with great reluctance--we chose not to book a future Sandals trip during our stay, something we've always done in the past. This decision was not made lightly, but based on the decline in service quality and overall value, we did not feel confident committing to another visit at this time. Also, we found it highly unethical that Sandals Antigua would attempt to offer compensation -- in the form of points -- seemingly in exchange for our silence or retraction of an honest, unsatisfactory review (or future reviews). This behavior constituted as a form of bribery and only further reinforced the disappointing experience we had with the resort. I urge Sandals to reevaluate its approach to customer feedback and adopt a more ethical and respectful standard for resolving complaints.

This was a reservation made through www.homeaway.com The location is great. It has secure access and a guard at the gate 24hrs/day. You can get to bio bay and the Fajardo ferry to Vieques and Culebra with a short 10min drive. The condo was clean and looked very well maintained. They really take care of all the small considerations too. There was even snorkeling equipment and beach gear available for use. Not that you would need it but the facility also has a couple of pools and a jacuzzi. The only complaints are that the power kept going out during the second night, which wasn't a big deal since the generator kicked in right away. Still a little irritating though. Also it was a little bit difficult to find. All in all it was a great value. I would definitely go back. By the way, if you do the bio bay tour skip the kayak and do the motor boat option. It doesn't cost much more and you get to see more of the bay, plus you don't have to paddle.
