I'm only reviewing their Sunday Drag Brunch which I attended with a friend. Reservations are a must for a table. The location is amazing, on their back ocean facing patio/bar area. There are hotel patrons coming and going from the beach during the show but they were mostly respectful about waiting to move through. The show had some technical difficulties but the Queens made the best of it and really put on a killer show! The show is absolutely worth it! The tables are under umbrellas so you are protected from direct sun. Now, the food/service. Do yourself a favor and eat before you come, then order the drinks & a show package for $45. They absolutely do keep the champagne flowing but not the juice for the mimosas. My friend and I ordered the shrimp ceviche, Korean BBQ wings, and Poke bowls. The shrimp looked and tasted like it had been pulverized, it was completely inedible. the wings were slightly better but still very dry. My Tuna poke bowl was decent but flavorless. I asked for additional soy sauce but it never arrived. If you're in the area I highly recommend seeing the show, having some drinks and laughs, then moving on to your next adventure. read more

I wanted to love the place because the initial interaction with the front desk was so pleasant but too many things were not right for me to overlook. Rooms single bed (2 separate rooms): The rooms were pretty small and felt dorm like. One of my rooms were wet/mildew smelling and the people around it were loud (unfortunate but uncontrollable). My other room was dirty and had what looked like potential mold? The blanket was dirty and there was hair all over the towels. I was warned about construction noise but what actually was loud was the AC unit in both rooms. Service: Initial encounter he was friendly and helpful. Check in time was 4pm and he suggested to relax at the beach and offered to hold our luggage. I later found out they give towels out at the front desk so it was weird he didn't offer considering he knew we were going to the beach. Next we checked multiple bags but only was given one tag which is fine except when I came to claim it he went back and forth with us saying he gave us multiple (which he needed to grab our stuff). And lastly after this long drawn out process, my keycard was not working so I had to come back down and get that fixed. If it was 1-2 things I get it accidents happen but it just felt problem after problem. read more

A beautiful space, but not the place I remember. I recently stopped by a bar I used to visit years ago when I was in Puerto Rico, back when it had a very different identity. It's been updated, and visually, the space is quite nice--clean, modern, and the waterfront location is still a real highlight. The view alone is worth noting. That said, the experience didn't quite land for me. The atmosphere felt very different from what I remembered. What was once a lively, welcoming gay bar now feels like something else entirely, and that sense of community and energy just wasn't there. Service was also a bit puzzling. Despite the place not being particularly busy, I found myself largely ignored--both at the bar and at my table--which made the visit feel out of sync with the otherwise polished setting. I can appreciate the effort that's gone into updating the space, and for someone new to it, it may be an enjoyable stop, especially for the view. But for those who remember what it once was, it's a very different experience--and not one I'd personally recommend based on this visit. read more

Billed as gay hotel. Room was spartan. We checked in Saturday and Sunday morning there was no hot water. 3 other rooms had same problem. It was reported at 10 am and when we got back at 5:30 there was no hot water. The desk clerks response was we should have told them earlier. We had at 10 am. Don't stay here. They have a great restaurant and drag brunch. You reserve on open table so you don't have to stay here. I have traveled for work for 30 years and never had no hot water not corrected. read more

We waited for our food for a while, had to ask about it twice, also had to ask for a water refills. But restaurant is on the beach so that's very convenient! It was Saturday so we were able to order from brunch menu only, not a lot to pick from! I had steak and eggs - it was cooked med rare as I requested, eggs scrambled! My husband had banana pancakes they were a bit burnt so tasted bitter! Burger and fries were good, patty cooked nice with pink in the middle! I really do want to five -star this place! Location and vibe are incredible at a fairly reasonable price. Service is on point, the vibe makes its Wicked Lily hotel bar one of the best spots in Condado Beach! You are guaranteed to meet people here, no matter how introverted! But the rooms... modern and clean, for certain! But very small. Just enough room to walk around the bed and to the bathroom. And some of the design flaws are borderline code violations. I only sleep in my room... but if you are a lounger-in-the-room type, this place won't be for you. All that being said, I'm happy to return soon! read more

Great spot to come and have a few drinks while looking out at the ocean. Good music surrounds you as sit back and chill out. I initially came here to order a few of drinks but ended up ordering the Caesar salad and wings as well. Both were okay. Ceasar salad didn't taste like your traditional Caesar. This place is for young party people and I am neither of those anymore. The rooms are the bare minimum (which I don't mind), and the bar has loud party music going until 8pm on Fri - Sun, which makes a post beach nap challenging. However, it was vibrant, fun, queer loving, and right on the beach. The staff were attentive and friendly. We were well taken care of. Review is for hotel only as I did not experience the restaurant downstairs. It's a cute inexpensive boutique hotel right on condado beach. Hotel rooms have AC which work very well. The showers got warm water but never hot water that was of the deal we are is always 75 and above . They also started vacuuming the hallways at 730 in the morning which woke me up kinda quick. That is my biggest complaint. Hotel staff spoke both English and Spanish. There are elevators for every floor. Overall a good inexpensive beachfront hotel read more

Once I was back on the ship, I called and they found it and offered to send it back to me. When I returned home, The package was waiting for me with all my belongings in it. Absolutely wild! This place has an electric vibe that's hard to match. We visited on a Sunday and were lucky to catch the drag show from 12:30 to 2:00--an experience you truly have to see to believe! For food, we ordered the Pumpkin Gnocchi and Eggs Benedict. The Pumpkin Gnocchi was delicious, but the Eggs Benedict fell a bit short. This stay was mediocre at best. My husband and I came here for a five day vacation hoping for a relaxing time on the beach with a conveniently located hotel with a restaurant. For one it was SO loud, in the room and out of it. You can hear everything outside of the room. The beach in front of the hotel is packed with every single person playing a different type of music out loud on top of the hotel playing their own loud music. We paid for a queen bed but got a petite. The second night I noticed nothing had been done to the room and thought maybe they were just busy and let it go and cleaned up myself. Random but there was also a shampoo bottle as hand soap which I mentioned and they put a soap bottle on top of the shampoo bottle by the sink like they didn't know how to replace it?? After the next day with the same thing, where the room had not been touched, I said something to the front desk. Mind you I do not expect everything to be perfect but it got to a point where I was taking my own trash out, trying to sweep the floor that had sand on it with a towel and asking the reception for new towels as ours were still wet from the first night as it didn't air dry. After pointing this out and asking for a trash bag for the bin I had emptied, for the second time, I was told that there was only one housekeeper, they apologized and said they would "take care of it." I thought that take care of it would at least mean that for the next couple days things would improve, but nothing did. They gave us new bedding and towels when I complained but that was the one and only time anyone went into the room in the five days. They have a community gym unattached from the hotel you can use which is nice but it's not listed on the website or advertised. The restaurant has good food and restaurant staff was nice. Aside from that, I was paying for a nice hotel but living like I was renting a tiny dorm room. I felt bad for the current staff never able to keep up, they need more help. read more

Incredible find. We needed a spot to crash since our rental wasn't ready for another day. The front desk staff was incredibly helpful in ensuring we could have a late check-in. The rooms are small and relatively spartan, but had all that we needed. Beds were quite comfortable. The views were gorgeous, and we really enjoyed the beachfront bar - from the music to the vibes. While we eventually moved to our rental for the week, our group went back to the bar several times for bites and drinks. Pro tip: even if you're just lounging on the public beach in front of Tryst, you can grab drinks from the bar and take them with you in to-go cups. read more

I've already decided that if I get the chance to come back to San Juan, this is the hotel I'm coming to again. My 5 night stay here was incredible! First, the staff. Attentive, kind, the front desk staff were funny and helpful when we asked about things to do nearby that they recommend. I would get a text daily from the front desk/housekeeping asking if we need anything for our room. Only once did I use this for extra towels and blankets. We were gone from our room at this time but I got a reply saying they will take care of it immediately. Sure enough, we get back to our room soon after and have extra blankets and towels sitting nicely on our bed. I've never had such simple service at a hotel! The location is another huge plus for me. Condado is very nice and walkable. We walked almost everywhere as long as we were going to a restaurant/shop nearby the Tryst. The hotel is right on the beach and you can access it by walking through the restaurant (Wicked Lily). Beach chairs and umbrellas are included in your stay at the Tryst which is a nice touch. We felt very safe walking around our hotel and the surrounding area late at night. There is so much life to this part of San Juan. The rooms are small but good enough. We had 3 people so the room that sleeps that many is one with a queen size bed and futon. The futon was very comfortable as was the bed. We had ocean views too. The room wasn't as clean as it could have been when we arrived (sand all over the floor and some hairs in the bathroom) but we were able to look past it for all the other positives of our stay. We did not have a car but it looked like The Tryst offers valet. Unsure of the cost associated with this. Can't wait to be back! read more

Beautiful hotel currently being renovated. Awesome location and the bar staff very friendly. However.....the housekeeping ladies need to go. Took them all day to finally get to our room and all they did was give us new towels and made the bed. No new sheets just fluffed the pillows and made the bed. We could have done that. They spend most of their time talking on their cell phones. Also when we checked in they told us they would call and let us know when the room was ready. That never happened. After waiting for literally hours directly in front of the bell desk we asked if it was ready yet and they gave us the room key. Also, they have waiters for you right on the beach but only for food. If you want a drink you have to get it yourself. The bar is only 50 feet away so whatever. Just very lacking in service and hospitality. For the price it's not worth it. read more

Went to this hotel this morning to enjoy breakfast like had on Sunday morning (Very Good) while charging my phone and waiting in the lobby A Gentlemen Named "Melvin" hotel staff member (refused to give me his last name ) said to me in a very arrogant manner that I could not sit down n the lobby area that's was completely empty bc I was not a guest at the hotel. Mind you that I'm waiting for a friend to have breakfast. I proceeded to the bar area to order some breakfast bc apparently you can be on the property if your not consuming I ordered breakfast. Feeling completely humiliated and uncomfortable about the Melvin's additude and approach towards me I ask the bar tender what the gentleman last name. Melvin noticed I pointed to him and proceeded to walk over to me and say we have you in observación if I don't like what I see I will kick you off the property. I felt completely disgusted/ and humbled by the way Melvin spoke to me that is not how you treat a paying customer. Management needs to do better there are ways to communicate a message or policy without being rude and belittling another human being. read more

Great boutique hotel in el Condado. This budget friendly hotel is our go to when visiting San Juan. The hotel is on the beach with chairs and umbrellas for guests. Like the more expensive hotels, the Tryst offers drink and food service while you lounge on the beach and they also have a bar and restaurant with ocean view. We love the customer service this hotel offers. The front desk staff are really attentive and polite. The rooms are small, but they do have a three bedroom apartment for families. We stayed there last year and it was perfect. This time around we stayed in a small queen size room but it had all we needed for a short trip. Also, the rooms were very clean and room service was on point with making sure are room was serviced while we were out. They do have some parking available for guests and the location to walk around, eat, and party is perfect. read more

We loved staying at the Tryst SO MUCH last year, we booked it again this year for our girls trip! We were sooo excited to see Jacob and Robert still working there at the front desk! We totally adore them. Unfortunately we did not check anything about the weather before we booked and basically we were stuck in our hotel room almost 100% of the time because of hurricane Fiona We hung out in the lobby with Jacob a ton because literally all other businesses were closed. The group of us still has a crazy great time despite the hurricane. We plan on making this a yearly trip but maybeeee we'll choose a different month to visit in 2023! But the location of the Tryst is so amazing because there's SO much stuff to just walk to for dinner and entertainment! It's so great for a weekend trip. read more

In full disclosure, I'm an OG and this place is not for me. There was. DJ blaring music on the beach on Saturday afternoon. I texted the front desk and asked what it would take to get him to stop. The front desk responded, "Unfortunately, the DJ is part of the restaurant service on weekends." I responded, "Yes, that is unfortunate." The rooms are clean, but the bathrooms are narrow and can be hard to navigate if you have mobility issues. Not theor fault, but they're building a giant hotel next door and the construction noise is annoying. It is a good location, right on the beach. Another annoyance are the giant potted plants on the sidewalk that force you to walk in the street. Seriously? Why? I won't be coming back. Just not my scene. read more

After traveling all day I didn't have the energy to go outside the hotel for food so I pulled up to the patio restaurant. This did not disappoint. The ceviche was amazing. The sauce was spectacular. Come to find out the chef is from Peru. The empanadas were amazing the crust was just how you wanted it. Sturdy on the edges and soft and flaky centers. The poke bowl was great. The room I got had a very lose toilet, the window was covered with paper and it was so humid in the bathroom. You could hear everything going on outside. And to top it off. Shower had cold water. After wasting water for 20 minutes, you would get burning water for a few seconds and then back to cold. I tried to change rooms and was told it was full. This the worst hotel ever booked. I booked this hotel for 6 nights in the 3-bedroom Suite in back in April and paid my reservation in full directly booked with the hotel. Here it is August Three days before arrival. I receive a call from the hotel stating my room is no longer available and we can give you a full refund. Wait what I don't want no refund. I am arriving in 72 hours. You have to accommodate me better than that. Then they said we can give you three rooms. I explained I am traveling with my handicap mother who cannot be in a room alone my wife and my brother and his wife hits why I booked this room type. We all can chip in and help mom. Besides the rooms offered where cheaper than the 3-bedroom Suite so I was just supposed to eat the difference and they could not guarantee me the rooms would be close. I am not sure if you seen the rooms, but the rooms are so small it would never fit her wheelchair. After a bunch of back and forth I asked to speak to the GM. The GM then stated we can give the 3 rooms and give you a 20% discount. What I already paid for the Suite you are just giving me the 3 rooms at regular rate after the discount because the Suite is more money. Besides below on another review below you offered a guest 25% discount for a Nosie complaint. Really, I have to altar my whole trip. the 20% is not even a discount. He then stated a gave you two options choose one. I can cancel the reservation or give you 20% off. Where is the customer service here, I then asked if you cannot accommodate me send me to another hotel. His response was I would never do that I will just cancel the reservation. Now three days before my flight I have no hotel room and my money tide-up with the hotel because a refund takes 5 to 6 business days. read more

Talk about hidden gems!!! This was definitely one of the smaller hidden hotels on Condado Beach. You'd miss it if you were just walking past, but THANK GOD we didn't. If you are like us, *bougie on a budget* then this is the place for you! Let the review begin: I like to start off with the cons because If anything in there is a deal-breaker for you, you can just move on without having to read the rest. You're welcome. Cons: 1. Cleanliness: Not that the room was completely dirty, cause it wasn't. I just have higher standards when this is the topic (my "bougie" side). My advice; bring slip ons, because the only carpeted area was around the bed. Other than that, it was pretty dirty on the floor and it had definitely not been mopped upon arrival. 2. Water supply: This had to be THE most annoying part of our stay. The shower water LITERALLY was only a trickle... oh! and the hot was cold and the cold was hot. :/ not fun. The sink water does this thing where only scorching hot water would run, and you'd have to wait 5min for cold water. These are the only reasons why this wasn't rated at a "great"! *I know the water thing sounds shitty, but if it wasn't for the STAFF there and the service... I would've truly rated this a "could've been better". BUT, if you are like me and prefer true honest human interactions rather than nitpicking at luxury living (lol) then keep reading. Pros: 1. The selling point was the Beach front view. DUH! Literally down a few steps then you're right on the beach. 2. Central to literally everything on Ashford Ave. Each corner you turn has food, bar, stores, etc. OH! and a hookah bar kitty-corner to this hotel. AMAZING! 3. Cleanliness, obviously is a huge deal. Room was decent, nothing out of the ordinary besides the floor and water sitch. 4. Lastly, THE SERVICE. *chefs kiss * chefs kiss! The service was like NO OTHER. Jacob at the front desk literally catered to our every need. Flying in at 6 am was no fun when check-in wasn't until 3 pm! He made us feel right at home. We are truly grateful for his patience and kindness. Traveling for 16hrs had us CRANKY. We felt gross and tired, but Jacob kept us calm and did everything he could so that we could check in earlier. He recommended food places and allowed us to literally CHILL in the lobby until our room was ready. Chill aka, my friend literally slept on the lobby couch! LOL! Geo, the hostess for Wicked Lilly (bar/restaurant tied to the hotel) kept it entertaining for us as well. Made conversations, allowed us to request music, and was super fun to be around.
